    The Relationship between Group Class Integration, Socio-emotional Abilities and Disruptive Behaviours Peer Group Integration Factors

    Introduction: School is a socializing environment where a substantial part of children’s socio-emotional development takes place. For many children, their school years are imbued with experiences of rejection by their peers and feelings that the teacher also berates them constantly. But the role that social-emotional skills and disruptive behaviours play in these experiences is not clear. Methodology: This study analyses the relationship between integration in the class group, social-emotional skills and disruptive behaviours in a sample of 149 pupils between the ages of 10 and 12 years, using an EQI test, sociometric test, and a teacher questionnaire. Data analysis has been done using statistic descriptive and inferential tests. Results: The results show that socio-empathy and self-assessment are the best predictors for reciprocity in peer group relationships. Emotional intelligence and disruptive behaviours have a mild effect on peer acceptance and rejection. But there are differences in the rejection factors depending on sex. The most rejected boys are the ones who have poorer emotional intelligence and who overvalue selection by their peers. The most rejected girls are the ones who are less open to the group and make fewer selections. These girls also seem to exhibit lower adaptability than girls more open to the group. Conclusions: In peer acceptance there are multiple factors involved that have synergic effects, creating a loop that could magnify the differences in children’s social abilities and in the construction of their peer social network throughout their development

    Influence of must racking and fining procedures on the composition of white wine

    A study of the effects of two kinds of must clarification. settling or filtration by rotary vacuum filter and 5 juice fining treatments (bentonite, potassium caseinate, and combinations: bentonite + gelatin, and bentonite + caseinate + microcrystalline cellulose) on wine characteristics was carried out using must of the white cultivar Parellada. Although the general characteristics (ethanol, color, limpidity, residual sugars, pH and acidity) of Parerllada wines were not modified, some wine components (e.g. nitrogenous substances, phenolic compounds and aroma) were lowered according to the type of must racking and juice fining agent added. The percentage of decrease of wine characteristics due to the pre-fermentative fining agent depends on the type of must racking. Highest losses were recorded when rotary vacuum filters were used for must racking, and when bentonite (0.3-0.5 g/l) was added to the juice as a fining agent before fermentation

    Los graves problemas geotécnicos sucedidos en numerosos túneles europeos excavados en materiales que generan problemas de estabilidad, como consecuencia de su expansividad, los convierten en canalizadores de aguas. Estos materiales son fácilmente lavables al disolverse los sulfatos con el agua, provocando una decompresión y remoldeo del macizo, agravando y trasladando el problema más allá del inmediato entorno del túnel. En el caso particular de presencia de capas de anhidrita entre argilitas, además de la adopción de medidas de sostenimiento y revestimiento especiales, el sostenimiento primario y el revestimiento posterior deben ser excepcionalmente resistentes a las presiones que pueden llegar a transmitir el terreno a medio y largo plazo. En este artículo se describen los aspectos más relevantes de comportamiento hidromecánico de los suelos y las rocas sulfatadas y se presentan algunas experiencias, concluyendo sobre aspectos asociados al fenómeno de hinchamiento en túneles y su posible tratamiento

Its precipitating factors include surgical procedures, particularly thymectomy. The role of preoperative intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) in preventing MC in patients scheduled for thymectomy and other surgery with general anaesthesia is unknown. Our objective was to test the hypothesis that preoperative IVIg is effective in preventing myasthenic crisis in patients with myasthenia gravis scheduled for surgery under general anaesthesia, including thymectomy. METHODS: A prospective, randomized, double-blind, single-centre study was conducted over a 4-year period. The treatment group received IVIg, 0.4 g/kg/day preoperatively for 5 consecutive days, and the placebo group received saline solution under the same conditions. The two groups were age-matched, with similar functional status, and Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America class. All patients had well-controlled myasthenia gravis with minimal manifestations before surgery. The primary outcome measured was MC. Intubation times, time in the recovery room, number of postoperative complications, and days of hospitalization were the secondary outcomes measured. RESULTS: A total of 47 patients were randomized, 25 to the IVIg group and 22 to placebo. There were 19 men and 28 women, with a mean age of 58.6 years, mean body mass index of 27.8 kg/m2, and mean acetylcholine receptor antibodies of 12.9 nmol/l. The mean forced vital capacity was 84.4%. The mean quantitative myasthenia gravis sum score was 6.3. Ten patients (five in each arm) had a history of MC. Thymectomy was performed in 16 patients. Only one patient in the placebo group presented with MC requiring non-invasive ventilation (but no reintubation) for 6 days. Neither differences between groups in the univariate analysis nor risk factors for MC in the multivariate analysis were found. CONCLUSIONS: Preoperative IVIg to prevent MC does not appear to be justified in well-controlled myasthenia gravis patients.     QTLs were mapped in F2 progeny derived from a cross between the head-bug resistant sorghum cultivar Malisor 84-7 and susceptible S 34. The phenotypic evaluation was conducted in Mali. The mapped population consisted of 217 F2 plants, with 345 homologous and heterologous RFLP probes and 49 microsatellite markers tested. Eighty-one RFLP markers revealed polymorphism between the two parents, and 14 microsatellite markers gave usable amplification products.
