Poem the begins: I want to leave you, but how can I when your summers are so sweet— when I know that honeysuckles share their sugary scent every afternoon? Their sunshine-yellow flowers grin, knowing their perfume’s descent will flirt with noses. Their ethereal drops float on the balmy breeze, spraying Earth’s skin

This research discusses the structural ambiguity of the sentences that occur in BBC News’ Titles. This research is aimed to investigate the structural ambiguity in the news titles of BBC News and find out the realization of structural ambiguity in BBC News’ Titles. In conducting the research, the researcher used non-participatory observation and purposive sampling as the data collection methods. The theories used in this research are constituent analysis (Burton Roberts, 2016), tree diagram theory (Burton Roberts, 2022), and also types of structural ambiguity (Hirst, 1987). There were fifteen news titles collected from the BBC News website as the involved data. The researcher collected structural ambiguities found in the sentence structures in fifteen news titles on BBC News. As the result, the attachment ambiguity is found in all data. There are two types of attachment ambiguity found by the researcher. The first type is some attachment ambiguity that has a problem with modifier placement at the end of the sentence. The second type of attachment ambiguity has a problem with modifier placement in the middle of the sentence

The Pharmacogenetics of Opioid Pain Management

    Get PDF
High rates of interpatient variability in drug metabolism and drug response for nearly all medications lead to the hypothesis that assessment of an individual patient\u27s genotype with respect to their ability metabolize certain drugs can be a useful tool in predicting a patient\u27s responsiveness to certain medications. Evaluating patients using pharmacogenomics as a basis for assessment could allow pharmacists to decide which treatment options would be most efficacious in a given patient and, thereby, have significant impact in the clinical setting. This holds true especially in the case of prodrugs, which require in vivo activation to an active or more active form. Codeine is a prodrug whose clinical efficacy depends greatly on its metabolism to more active forms by both cytochrome P450 enzymes and uridine diphosphate glucuronyltransferase enzymes and is affected by the activity of transporters and the structure of its target receptor. Evaluation of a patient\u27s metabolic capacity concerning these enzymes, as well as any abnormalities in transporter activity or receptor structure, could indicate if the patient will receive adequate pain relief from a given dose of codeine

Genetic Variations in a Cytochrome P450 Enzyme and the Effects on Clopidogrel Bioactivation and Metabolism

Clopidogrel, the top prescribed antiplatelet medication for individuals who have experienced a myocardial infarction or cerebral vascular accident or who have peripheral arterial disease, is administered orally as a prodrug. It relies on hepatic metabolism through cytochrome P450 enzymes for conversion to its active form. Current research shows that allelic variation m the gene coding for CYP2C19 is the main factor contributing to the variability of response associated with clopidogrel treatment. Through the promotion of genetic testing for variability in the CYP2C19 gene and competently interpreting test results, pharmacists have the opportunity to use these findings to significantly impact clopidogrel prescribing and dosing. By tailoring an individual\u27s dosing regimen, pharmacists can maximize the efficacy of clopidogrel for a patient according to his or her genotype

The Probability of Spotted Lanternfly, Lycorma delicatula (Hemiptera: Fulgoridae), Escape Differs Among Life Stages and Between Two Trapping Techniques Commonly Used By Landowners, Sticky Bands and Duct Tape.

The invasive Lycorma delicatula (White) was first identified in Pennsylvania, U.S.A. in 2014, and has since increased its range to several Eastern states. Lycorma delicatula pose a serious threat to many native species, including hardwoods and grapes, and land owners are continually seeking effective traps to control populations. Both commercially-produced Web-Cote brand sticky bands and less expensive duct tape are often used by land owners to trap L. delicatula. However, the probability of escape from these adhesives has not been formally assessed, and almost certainly differs as a function of life stage and type of adhesive used. The purpose of this work was to determine if the effect of adhesive type (Web-Cote sticky bands vs. duct tape) on the probability of escape differs based on life stage. Additionally, we wanted to know how escape probability differs among life stages when individuals were exposed to each adhesive type, separately. In all life stages, the probability of escape from duct tape was greater than from Web-Cote sticky bands, indicating that sticky bands are a more effective tool in L. delicatula population control. In trials using only Web-Cote sticky bands, the probability of escape was low in second (21.1%), third (32.6%), and fourth (38.5%) instars relative to adults (84.1%). In trials using only duct tape, the probability of escape remained high among all life stages, with approximately 72% of second instars and 100% of adults escaping. Recent studies indicate that alternate trapping techniques, including circle trunk traps, are even more effective at capturing L. delicatula than sticky bands, though they are costlier. We propose a hybrid approach to L. delicatula trapping which utilizes relatively inexpensive sticky bands early in the season, and fewer, more effective circle trunk traps later in the season

A Scoping Review of the Quality and the Design of Evaluations of Mobile Health, Telehealth, Smart Pump and Monitoring Technologies Performed in a Pharmacy-Related Setting.

Background: There is currently a need for high quality evaluations of new mobile health, telehealth, smart pump and monitoring technologies undertaken in a pharmacy-related setting. We aim to evaluate the use of these monitoring technologies performed in this setting. Methods: A systematic searching of English articles that examined the quality and the design of technologies conducted in pharmacy-related facilities was performed using the following databases: MEDLINE and Cumulative index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) to identify original studies examining the quality and the design of technologies and published in peer-reviewed journals. Extraction of articles and quality assessment of included articles were performed independently by two authors. Quality scores over 75% are classed as being acceptable using a "relatively conservative" quality benchmark. Scores over 55% are included using a "relatively liberal" cut-off point. Results: Screening resulted in the selection of 40 formal evaluations. A substantial number of studies (32, 80.00%) were performed in the United States, quantitative in approach (33, 82.50%) and retrospective cohort (24, 60.00%) in study design. The most common pharmacy-related settings were: 22 primary care (55.00%); 10 hospital pharmacy (25.00%); 7 community pharmacy (17.50%); one primary care and hospital pharmacy (2.50%). The majority of the evaluations (33, 82.50%) reported clinical outcomes, six (15.00%) measured clinical and economic outcomes, and one (2.50%) economic only. Twelve (30.00%) quantitative studies and no qualitative study met objective criteria for "relatively conservative" quality. Using a lower "relatively liberal" benchmark, 27 quantitative (81.82%) and four qualitative (57.41%) studies met the lower quality criterion. Conclusion: Worldwide, few evaluations of mobile health, telehealth, smart pump and monitoring technologies in pharmacy-related setting have been published.Their quality is often below the standard necessary for inclusion in a systematic review mainly due to inadequate study design
