My artworks are informed by my experiences in the landscape at dusk. As the sun sets, the energy of the landscape shifts and a whole new world of the unseen arise. Through my artworks, I seek to encapsulate the emotions that the landscape evokes at this time. I explore my own desires of being immersed in the natural world, as well as my wonder and respect for its mysteries. Through darkness and light, my artworks investigate the unknown, or the idea of the unknown, beyond what the senses perceive

Audio Rendering/Processing and Control Ubiquity ? a Solution Built Using the Faust Dynamic Compiler and JACK/NetJack

    Get PDF
International audienceWe usually think of an audio application as a self-contained executable that will compute audio, allow user interface control, and render sound in a single process, on a unique machine. With the appearance of fast network and sophisticated, light and wireless control devices (such as tablets, smart-phones...) the three different parts (that are audio computation , interface control and sound rendering) can naturally be decoupled to run on different processes on a given machine , or even on different machines (on a LAN or WAN network). We describe a solution to run and control audio DSP on different machines based on: • the FAUST audio DSP language which permits local and remote dynamic compilation, code migration and deployment (using libfaust, libfaustremote and LLVM) • local and remote control capabilities (via OSC and HTTP based control interfaces) • JACK/NetJack network audio real-time layer to handle remote audio processing and rendering

Culture Contact and the Development of Intercultural Sensitivity

    Get PDF
The theory exhibited here is rooted in a culture-contact psychology perspective. It gives a central role to interculturation, transitory psychological reactions and intercultural sensitivity in such a way that the hypothesis investigated is thus expressed: “lasting critical culture-contact experience implies the development of intercultural sensitivity”. The content of this postulate requires that the study focus on distinct cultural areas. This is why the inhabitants of the cities of Buenos Aires (Argentina), Hong Kong (China) and Toulouse (France) were selected to answer a multidimensional questionnaire (n = 209), deriving from a theoretical approach and allowing the proposed hypothesis to be tested, through the analysis of culture contact and intercultural sensitivity level. The analysis of these results is combined with an ethnographic approach and demonstrates that critical culture contacts influence the nature of the intercultural sensitivity that can develop. The authors also show that the experienced exteriority differs from the given one. However, it is noted that methodological limitations hamper the relevance of this study

    Intercultural Competencies to Overcome Trauma

    Get PDF
This research aims to implement a set of questions linked to two theoretical approaches: French intercultural psychology, in terms of culture contact psychology, and intercultural clinical psychology of trauma. We examine the alleviation of trauma from the development of intercultural competencies involved in cultural contacts. We advance the hypothesis of a link between the development of intercultural skills and the reduction of trauma. We contend that these two concepts are connected through creative resolution strategies and that people confront a traumatic situation that doesn’t make sense, whether from a perpetrator or from another culture encounter. In our first set of qualitative interviews (N = 15), we elaborate on a quantitative questionnaire. According to the results of our second sample (N = 165), the people who experienced a potentially traumatic life event seem to develop intercultural skills and creativity to overcome the trauma

INTERCULTURATION AND INYERCULTURAL SENSITIVITY: IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MAJOR CONCEPTS FOR A BETTER MANAGEMENT OF CULTURAL OTHERNESS

This study aimed to explore the relationship between intercultural sensitivity, namely, the ability to apprehend cultural difference, and interculturation. Specifically, this study investigated the effect of nationality (French, Brazilian, Bolivian, Sri Lankan) and individual characteristics (e.g., number of spoken foreign languages, socioeconomic status, age and gender) on intercultural sensitivity and interculturation. An intercultural sensitivity scale and demographic questions about individual characteristics were administered to a sample of 434 participants. The results showed that intercultural sensitivity depends on the number of spoken foreign languages, which is a strong asset for a better understanding of cultural otherness. Nationality, socioeconomic status and gender had significant effects on ethnocentrism and ethnorelativism aspects of intercultural sensitivity

Faust audio DSP language in the Web

    Get PDF
International audienceWith the advent of both HTML5 and the Web Audio API (a high-level JavaScript API for audio process- ing and synthesis) interesting audio applications can now be developed for the Web. The Web Audio API offers a set of fast predefined audio nodes as well as customizable ScriptProcessor node, allowing developers to add their own javascript audio processing code. Several projects are developing abstractions on top of the Web Audio API to extend its capabilities, and offer more complex unit generators, DSP effects libraries, or adapted syntax. This paper brings an- other approach based on the use of the Faust audio DSP language to develop additional nodes to be used as basic audio DSP blocks in the Web Audio graph. Different methods have been explored: going from an experimental version that embeds the complete Faust native compilation chain (based on libfaust + LLVM) in the browser, to more portable solutions using JavaScript or the much more efficient asm.js version. Embedding the Faust compiler it- self as a pure JavaScript library (produced using Emscripten) will also be described. The advantages and issues of each approach will be discussed and some benchmarks will be given

International audienceThe Web offers a great opportunity to share, deploy and use programs without installation difficulties. In this article we explore the idea of freely combining/composing real-time audio applications deployed on the Web using Faust audio DSP language

Primary leiomyosarcoma of the seminal vesicle: Case report and review of the literature

International audienceAbstract Background Primary leiomyosarcoma of the seminal vesicle is exceedingly rare. Case Presentation We report a case of a 59-year-old man with tumour detected by rectal symptoms and ultrasonography. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging suggested an origin in the right seminal vesicle. Transperineal biopsy of the tumour revealed leiomyosarcoma. A radical vesiculo-prostactectomy with bilateral pelvic lymphadenectomy was performed. Pathological examination showed a grade 2 leiomyosarcoma of the seminal vesicle. The patient received adjuvant radiotherapy. He developed distant metastases 29 months after diagnosis, and received chemotherapy. Metastatic disease was controlled by second-line gemcitabine-docetaxel combination. Fifty-one months after diagnosis of the primary tumour, and 22 months after the first metastases, the patient is alive with excellent performance status, and multiple asymptomatic stable lung and liver lesions. Conclusions We report the eighth case of primary leiomyosarcoma of the seminal vesicle and the first one with a so long follow-up
