a key model organism, not only for the study of halophilicity, but also for archaeal biology in general. DS2, the type strain of this species. The genome contains a main 2.848 Mb chromosome, three smaller chromosomes pHV1, 3, 4 (85, 438, 636 kb, respectively) and the pHV2 plasmid (6.4 kb).

OBJECTIVES: Asthma has significant occupational consequences. The objective of our study was to investigate the links between asthma and the career path, taking into account gender and age at asthma onset. METHODS: Using cross-sectional data collected at inclusion in the French CONSTANCES cohort in 2013-2014, we studied the links between each career path indicator (number of job periods, total duration of employment, numbers of part-time jobs and work interruptions due to unemployment or health issues, employment status at inclusion) on the one hand, and current asthma and asthma symptom score in the last 12 months on the other hand, as reported by the participants. Multivariate analyses were performed separately for men and women using logistic and negative binomial regression models adjusted for age, smoking status, body mass index and educational level. RESULTS: When the asthma symptom score was used, significant associations were observed with all of the career path indicators studied: a high symptom score was associated with a shorter total duration of employment as well as a greater number of job periods, part-time jobs and work interruptions due to unemployment or health issues. These associations were of similar magnitude in men and women. When current asthma was used, the associations were more pronounced in women for some career path indicators. CONCLUSION: The career path of asthmatic adults is more often unfavourable than that of those without asthma. Efforts should be made to support people with asthma in the workplace, in order to maintain employment and facilitate the return to work.La cohorte CONSTANCES - Infrastructure épidémiologique ouverte pour la recherche et la surveillanc

Low serum albumin and the acute phase response predict low serum selenium in HIV-1 infected women

BACKGROUND: Low serum selenium has been associated with lower CD4 counts and greater mortality among HIV-1-seropositive individuals, but most studies have not controlled for serum albumin and the presence of an acute phase response. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted to evaluate relationships between serum selenium concentrations and CD4 count, plasma viral load, serum albumin, and acute phase response markers among 400 HIV-1-seropositive women. RESULTS: In univariate analyses, lower CD4 count, higher plasma viral load, lower albumin, and the presence of an acute phase response were each significantly associated with lower serum selenium concentrations. In multivariate analyses including all four of these covariates, only albumin remained significantly associated with serum selenium. For each 0.1 g/dl increase in serum albumin, serum selenium increased by 0.8 ÎĽg/l (p < 0.001). Women with an acute phase response also had lower serum selenium (by 5.6 ÎĽg/l, p = 0.06). CONCLUSION: Serum selenium was independently associated with serum albumin, but not with CD4 count or plasma viral load, in HIV-1-seropositive women. Our findings suggest that associations between lower serum selenium, lower CD4 count, and higher plasma viral load may be related to the frequent occurrence of low serum albumin and the acute phase response among individuals with more advanced HIV-1 infection

Vitamin D and Bone Health; Potential Mechanisms

Osteoporosis is associated with increased morbidity, mortality and significant economic and health costs. Vitamin D is a secosteriod hormone essential for calcium absorption and bone mineralization which is positively associated with bone mineral density [BMD]. It is well-established that prolonged and severe vitamin D deficiency leads to rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults. Sub-optimal vitamin D status has been reported in many populations but it is a particular concern in older people; thus there is clearly a need for effective strategies to optimise bone health. A number of recent studies have suggested that the role of vitamin D in preventing fractures may be via its mediating effects on muscle function (a defect in muscle function is one of the classical signs of rickets) and inflammation. Studies have demonstrated that vitamin D supplementation can improve muscle strength which in turn contributes to a decrease in incidence of falls, one of the largest contributors to fracture incidence. Osteoporosis is often considered to be an inflammatory condition and pro-inflammatory cytokines have been associated with increased bone metabolism. The immunoregulatory mechanisms of vitamin D may thus modulate the effect of these cytokines on bone health and subsequent fracture risk. Vitamin D, therefore, may influence fracture risk via a number of different mechanisms

Created in 2018 by the National Dance Center (CN D), «Constellation» is an artistic and cultural educational program (EAC) that allows young people, regardless of their age and situation, to discover the world of dance and find support and resources for their personal development. The program features a long duration, for a total of forty-six hours over the course of a year, as well as a complementary mix of dance practice, mediation workshops, performances and lectures. Since its creation, the program has been tested, debated and adjusted with all the participating professionals as well as a teacher-researcher in Education Sciences who supports the analysis of the situations. This interview presents the challenges of the project as well as the questions and the first answers provided by crossing the viewpoints of different participants: Julie Gouju, choreographic artist, Charline Bidault, in charge of artistic and cultural education and mediator, Fanny Delmas, in charge of the artistic and cultural education department and mediator at the CN D as well as Sylvain Fabre, associate researcher
