This dissertation describes a simulation study of the impact of distributed generation (DG) interconnection to an existing distribution system of an Iraq system. The increase load demand in many countries pushes the electrical company to use DG technology to meet their load. From the literature review, it was found in spite of many positive effects of DG such as reduce the power losses and reduce voltage drop; the parallel operation of DG with an existing distribution system has many technical problems. One of the most significant issues of parallel operation is the change of fault level and suitability of existing protection system that indeed needs to be maintained within acceptable limits as defined in the international standards. Therefore, this dissertation is performed to investigate the impact of DG based synchronous generator driven by diesel engine on both the fault level and protection system. A small part of the distribution system in Baghdad capital-Iraq which the DG is currently interconnected at 11kV bus has been chosen and modeled using DIgSILENT PowerFactory version 15. The impacts of DG installation at three different locations, i.e. two possible locations which are 33kV and 132kV buses as well as the actual location have been investigated. The dissertation basically includes two investigations which are; examine the change in the fault level without the presence of DG and with DG interconnection at three interconnection locations by executing three-phase fault at each bus of the network as well as investigate the suitability of protection devices through performing single-line-to-ground and three-phase faults at 33kV and 11kV feeders within the distribution system. The results show that after an extensive simulation study, the increase in short circuit level is noticeable at the buses where the DG is interconnected and the protection performance of unidirectional overcurrent relay suffer from blinding and sympathetic tripping as well as the under reach of distance relay, therefore, a series remedy is needed for safety purposes and to reliability of the system

    Get PDF
Background: Enquiring about and documenting care arrangements for children of inpatient mothers with mental illness is paramount. Failure to do so could have a negative impact on the well-being of their children. Documenting care arrangements on admission signals good practice on the part of the admitting medical staff and ensures compliance with the requirements of the South African Children’s Act of 2004. This study explores the current practice at a large government run tertiary female inpatient psychiatric unit in Cape Town, regarding the enquiring and documenting practice within the first 24 hours of admission, of these care arrangements. Methods: The study is a cross sectional study using a mixed methods approach including: i) a case note audit of 100 consecutive patient folders examining the documentation of care arrangements within the first 24 hours of admission and ii) a structured self-administered questionnaire to professional staff working on the unit. Results: A total of 87 clinical folders were audited. Ninety nine percent of these folders had written down in them whether the women had children or not. Fifty eight percent of women had minor children and had 87 children between them. Fifteen percent of women had no care arrangements documented and 20% of women had unclear documentation of care arrangements. Fifteen completed staff questionnaires were returned. All staff agreed that it was important to ask the mothers about care arrangements. Conclusion: Significant more women that those identified on admission may have children who may have been in unsafe care arrangements at the time of their admission. There is room for improving the clarity of documenting of care arrangements and the enquiring into the specific care arrangements

Signaling pathways controlling biotic and abiotic stress responses may interact synergistically or antagonistically. To identify the similarities and differences among responses to diverse stresses, we analyzed previously published microarray data on the transcriptomic responses of Arabidopsis thaliana to infection with Botrytis cinerea (a biotic stresses). Our analyses showed that at least at early stages B. cinerea inoculation, 1498 genes were up-regulated (B. cinerea up-regulated genes; BUGS) and 1138 genes were down-regulated (B. cinerea down-regulated genes; BUGS). We showed a unique program of gene expression was activated in response each biotic and abiotic stress, but that some genes were similarly induced or repressed by all of the tested stresses. Of the identified BUGS, 25%, 6% and 12% were also induced by cold, drought and oxidative stress, respectively; whereas 33%, 7% and 5.5% of the BUGS were also down-regulated by the same abiotic stress. Coexpression and protein-protein interaction network analyses revealed a dynamic range in the expression levels of genes encoding regulatory proteins. Analysis of gene expression in response to electrophilic oxylipins suggested that these compounds are involved in mediating responses to B. Cinerea infection and abiotic stress through TGA transcription factors. Our results suggest an overlap among genes involved in the responses to biotic and abiotic stresses in A. thaliana. Changes in the transcript levels of genes encoding components of the cyclopentenone signaling pathway in response to biotic and abiotic stresses suggest that the oxylipin signal transduction pathway plays a role in plant defense. Identifying genes that are commonly expressed in response to environmental stresses, and further analyzing the functions of their encoded products, will increase our outstanding of the plant stress response. This information could identify targets for genetic modification to improve plant resistance to multiple stresses

This paper aimed at finding weather if the English passive voice construction used in Obama’s political speeches, will be preserved or not when translated into Arabic. This paper hypothesize that the passive voice construction is not preserved during the process of translation from English to Arabic. In conclusion according to the analysis of the samples most of the translators use active voice instead of the passive voice in translating the statements that is due to the fact that the complexity of Arabic language differs from that of the English language, both languages differ in culture and norms and follows different grammar. This study provides an overview on translating passive voice forms from English to Arabic using Obama\u27s presidential speeches. This paper serves as a valuable resource for analyzing passive voice constructions, developing translation strategies, and evaluating translation outcomes. It is expected to contribute to the field of translation studies and enhance understanding of the complexities involved in translating between these two languages. It attempts to present a valuable addition to a topic in need of more relevant information

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the possibility of applying the international standard (ISO 21500:2021) in the investment commission within the governorate of Saladin on one of its projects. The project is the construction of the Yarmouk residential complex to evaluate the extent of application of the standard.   Theoretical framework: The reasons for the gap are due to a weakness in the application of the portfolio management item as it is not documented at that time, as well as a weakness in project management and program management. The main problem lies in knowing the extent to which the international standard (ISO 21500:  20 21) can be applied in the projects of the Saladin investment commission and through the research problem.   Design/methodology/approach: The study used a checklist was used for the above specification items as the main tool for research with Pareto chart in addition to personal interviews with officials within the authority who have a direct relationship to the project.   Findings: The researcher concluded that the Yarmouk residential complex has applied the requirements of the international standard (ISO 21500: 2021) by (57.7%) and   this is acceptable according to the arithmetic mean (3.473), meaning that the gap ratio is (42.3%).   Research, Practical & Social implications: The study found that the Yarmouk residential complex has only applied the terms of the specification with a weak percentage of less than 60%. Therefore, the Saladin IC should obtain and apply the specification in future projects to ensure that they meet the requirements for obtaining the ISO certificate. Additionally, measures should be taken to improve the skills and experience of the team to ensure that the project objectives are achieved.   Originality/value: The study improves projects in the application of international standards (ISO 21500:20 21) for the quality of project management by directing decision makers to develop an appropriate methodology for evaluating projects in accordance with the international standard (ISO 21500:20 21) and help engineer recognize the importance of this application

    Get PDF
According to World Health Organization (WHO) current updates, the COVID-19 pandemic has spread all over the globe affecting 216 countries and caused 8,860,331 confirmed cases and 465,740 deaths last followed by 24 June 2020. Many countries cannot afford the nucleic acid tests to confirm COVID-19 infected patients; as a result, people cannot know the COVID-19 status of the people living around them. The use of dexamethasone in COVID-19 hospitalized patients for up to 10 days lower 28-day mortality as compared to the patients taking usual care and also receiving mechanical ventilation at randomization (by age-adjusted percentage points 12.3, approximately one third of proportional reduction) and those patients receiving oxygen without invasive mechanical ventilation (by age-adjusted percentage points 4.1, approximately one fifth of proportional reduction)
