Purpose: The article aims to investigate how different understanding of ESG and/or CSR influence the adoption of formal ESG/CSR policy and relevant activities, and which factors are related to it as there is a gap in research on the formation of ESG/CSR strategy.   Theoretical Framework: ESG strategies are one of the critical components for ensuring sustainable growth (Liang et al., 2022), but the understanding of the concept is not necessarily guaranteed. Moreover, despite the increasing interest in the topic, the literature concerning transition and emerging economies and ESG practices is still quite limited (Garcia et al., 2017).   Design/Methodology/Approach: We surveyed various national companies with scalability about their perception and implementation of CSR/ESG and identified three clusters of enterprises based on their understanding of responsibility and sustainability. We analyzed the likelihood of adopting a CSR/ESG strategy for each type.   Findings: The study reveals different elements which impact the process of forming a sustainability strategy in a transition economy and confirms the one of significant precondition is the company size. In addition, strong brands are seen as predictor of a strategy implementation.   Research, Practical & Social Implications: We suggest that business which tend to address the dimension of sustainability have a comprehensive attitude toward strategy adoption and for effectively practicing sustainability awareness of the concept and all its dimensions is key. Based on the classification of the different companies their CSR/ESG activities could be analyzed.   Originality/Value: The results show major factors of sustainability which are crucial to implement a formal sustainability strategy

    Get PDF
Purpose: The aim of this article is to understand the impact of retailer brand name substitution on consumer trust.   Theoretical Framework: Drawing on existing research on product brand substitution, the paper introduces variables that could influence consumer trust in situations where a brand name is substituted.   Design/Methodology/Approach:  To achieve this goal, a quantitative study was conducted among 351 Tunisian consumers to test the hypotheses and quantify the impact of each variable.   Findings: The results of this research highlight three variables that can contribute to building consumer trust during a retailer brand name substitution, namely: (1) communication about the change; (2) perceived similarity and (3) perceived benefits derived from the change. The results also indicated that consumer attachment has a moderating effect on the relationship between trust and its determinants. More precisely, the stronger the attachment to the initial retailer brand, the more the consumer's trust in the brand decreases after the brand substitution.   Research, Practical & Social implications: This paper assists practitioners in identifying the key success determinants that can facilitate the transfer of consumer trust from the old retailer brand to the new one. It provides guidance for a successful retailer brand name substitution.   Originality/Value: This research fulfils an identified need to study how consumers’ trust in a brand can be transferred successfully in the case of a retailer brand name substitution

    Get PDF
Purpose: This literature review seeks to advance knowledge of the area of theories on motivation for corporate sustainability efforts as it has been researched by earlier experts. Corporate sustainability has gained more attention in academics and business since the 1990s. Still, there is a lack of literature in the area of motivational theories for corporate sustainability. This particular review paper offers an analysis of 30 articles from journals covering the area of business and management that were published between 2002 and 2022. The paper provides a summary of the growth of corporate sustainability, as well as various definitions, and theories that have been put into practice to motivate corporate sustainability efforts.   Method: The researcher employed a literature search strategy, drawing from prior review articles, to investigate corporate sustainability theories and related studies by reputable academics. The electronic search focused on business and management publications, using keywords like sustainability and motivating theories for corporate sustainable adoption. The search was limited to the most recent two decades. Each identified work underwent screening to assess its essential relevance to motivational theories of corporate sustainability.   Findings: The results show that the field of corporate sustainability is still developing and that several theories have been employed to measure the motives of corporate sustainability. We believe that despite the similarities and connections between the three theories: institutional theory, stakeholder theory, and managerial motives, they are complementary rather than competing. Most significantly, they can be combined with and connected to corporate sustainability activities to provide a multi-theoretical view of the motivations behind such practices.   Research Implication: This study provides a theoretical framework that can be applied to studies of corporate sustainability, particularly when attempting to understand why organizations motivate to adopt corporate sustainability.   Origonality/Value: This theoretical model can be used as a conceptual foundation for empirical research on the drivers of corporate sustainability initiatives in a variety of settings. To gain a deeper comprehension of corporate sustainability adoption, it makes an effort to gain valuable insights into more than one single theory

    Get PDF
Purpose: The objective of this work is to apply a predictive model of bacterial growth to determine the concentration of total coliforms, under controlled laboratory conditions, in wastewater from the city of Riobamba that flows into the Chambo River (Ecuador).   Theoretical Framework: Wastewater pollution is a global problem that affects water quality and public health. Population growth has a drastic impact on the contamination of water bodies, particularly in Ecuador, since most of the effluents are not adequately treated, which becomes a public health and environmental problem. For this reason, over the years, total and fecal coliforms have been used as indicators of water quality.   Design/Methodology/Approach: The study used a mathematical modeling approach of a logistic and deterministic type, and calculated through an executable command designed in the integrated development environment (IDE) with the Visual C# programming language (logic) and the XAML design language (interface).   Findings: The results achieved are 1) the theoretical construction of a mathematical model (logistic model) starting from a differential equation and the taking of three experimental measurements, 2) the computer construction of the bacterial growth model and 3) it has been demonstrated that there is agreement between the values obtained from the model of total coliform growth and the experimental results with a margin of error of less than 1%.   Research, Practical & Social Implications: This information can be used by stakeholders to determine actions that could improve current conditions.   Originality/Value: The result of this study emphasizes that the model proposed can reproduce the growth of coliforms up to a maximum growth point, it is necessary to continue with the development of the same in the stationary phase of bacterial growth and then in the decay phase
