During human evolution emotion expression became an important social tool that contributed to the complexification of societies. Human-computer interaction is commonly present in our daily life, and the industry is struggling for solutions that can analyze human emotions, in an attempt to provide better experiences. The purpose of this study was to understand if a software built using the transfer-learning technique on a deep learning model was capable of classifying human emotions, through facial expression analysis. A Convolutional Neuronal Network model was trained and used in a web application, which is available online. Several tools were created to facilitate the software development process, including the training and validation processes, and these are also available online. The data was collected after the combination of several facial expression emotion databases, such as KDEF_AKDEF, TFEID, Face_Place and jaffe. Software evaluation reveled an accuracy in identifying the correct emotions close to 80%. In addition, a comparison between the software and preliminary data from human’s performance, on recognizing facial expressed emotions, suggested that the software performed better. This work can be useful in many different domains such as marketing (to understand the effect of marketing campaigns on people’s emotional states), health (to help mental diseases diagnosis) and industry 4.0 (to create a better collaborating environment between humans and machines).Durante a evolução da espécie humana, a expressões de emoções tornou-se uma ferramenta social importante, que permitiu a criação de sociedades cada vez mais complexas.

Introduction: Students' perception of EC influences academic performance, and its analysis provides essential information to improve it. Objective: To evaluate the perception of 3rd and 5th grade students regarding EC, BP and DP. Compare results obtained BP with institutions in different countries. Materials and Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study involving IUCS MIMD students, who answered the DREEM questionnaire, between March 20 and April 20, 2021. Results: The overall DREEM and its 5 subscales were analyzed, with BP as PD, the perception was "more positive than negative". There were statistically significant differences when comparing the results obtained by 3rd and 5th grade students, BP and PD, with effect magnitude from high to very high. It is noteworthy that 3rd graders have more positive perceptions compared to 5th graders, BP and DP. Discussion: The 3rd year students felt more strongly the difficulties inherent to the Covid-19 pandemic, while in the 5th year students DP was less significant compared to the BP period, perhaps due to the fact that they maintain the face-to-face clinical classes. A negative point is associated with the scarce support system for students with stress problems. Conclusion: The CE and its subscales are perceived more positively than negatively by IUCS students. The SP subscale was the most positively evaluated and the TP obtained lower results. When compared to studies conducted in other countries, the IUCS is one of the institutions with more satisfactory results

Disorder and dephasing effect on electron transport through conjugated molecular wires in molecular junctions

Understanding electron transport processes in molecular wires connected between contacts is a central focus in the field of molecular electronics. Especially, the dephasing effect causing tunneling-to-hopping transition has great importance from both applicational and fundamental points of view. We analyzed coherent and incoherent electron transmission through conjugated molecular wires by means of density-functional tight-binding theory within the D'Amato-Pastawski model. Our approach can study explicitly the structure/transport relationship in molecular junctions in a dephasing environmental condition using only single dephasing parameter. We investigated the length dependence and the influence of thermal fluctuations on transport and reproduced the well-known tunneling-to-hopping transition. This approach will be a powerful tool for the interpretation of recent conductance measurements of molecular wires.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.

The current SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has been affecting all sectors worldwide, and efforts have been targeting the enhancement of people’s health and labour conditions of collaborators belonging to healthcare institutions. The recent vaccines emerging against covid-19 are seen as a solution to address the problem that has already killed up to two million people. The preparation of the Pfizer-BioNTech covid-19 vaccine requires a specific manipulation before its administration. A correct homogenization with saline solution is needed and, therefore, a manual process with a predefined protocol should be accomplished. This action can endanger the operators’ ergonomics due to the repetitive movement of the process. This paper proposes a low-cost prototype incorporating an arduino based embedded system actuating a servomotor to perform an autonomous vials’ homogenization allowing to redirect these healthcare workers to other tasks. Moreover, a contactless start order process was implemented to avoid contact with the operator and, consequently, the contamination. The prototype was successfully tested and recognised, and is being applied during the preparation of the covid-19 vaccines at the hospital pharmacy of Centro Hospitalar de Vila Nova de Gaia/Espinho, E.P.E., Portugal. It can be easily replicated since the source files to assemble it are provided by the authors. The developers of this system thank the pharmacy department of the Centro Hospitalar de Vila Nova de Gaia/Espinho, E.P.E for supporting the implementation, tests and validation of the proposed system.
