    Teaching and practice of navigation in Mozambique : the impact of new technology on traditional methods

    The dissertation is an evaluation of the current navigation teaching in Mozambique and training practices in selected maritime institutions world-wide. In the light ofthis, all navigation syllabuses in selected countries are identified for comparison. It is obvious that modem technology is playing an increasingly important role in the teaching and practice of navigation globally, and therefore, the impact of technology on traditional methods as well as on the safety of navigation is discussed. Some limitations in accurately predicting the fiiture developments of navigation technology on board ships due to its high rate of change are noted. The problem of accuracy, limitations and the current situation of some navigation equipment such as Decca, Omega, Loran-C, ARPA, GPS, INS and ECDIS are described for comparison, noting the way in which technological developments such as Differential GPS and INS are promoting safer navigation. The STCW/78 as revised by IMO and the amendments now proposed which deal with navigation are examined with a view to evaluating their impact on standards and on technology in the country. The Navigation Control System (NACOS) developed by Atlas Electronik is described in order to elucidate the facilities offered by INS. The need for a new syllabus for the Nautical School ofMozambique is proposed to fit the changing ship technology. The final chapter is a summary of the objectives of navigation teaching world-wide and describes the importance of resolution A.666 (16)- World-wide Navigation Systems.     Includes bibliographical references (leaves 123-128).Radar tracking filters are generally computationally expensive, involving the manipulation of large matrices and deeply nested loops. In addition, they must generally work in real-time to be of any use. The now-common Kalman Filter was developed in the 1960's specifically for the purposes of lowering its computational burden, so that it could be implemented using the limited computational resources of the time. However, with the exponential increases in computing power since then, it is now possible to reconsider more heavy-weight, robust algorithms such as the original nonrecursive Gauss-Newton filter on which the Kalman filter is based. This dissertation investigates the acceleration of such a filter using FPGA technology, making use of custom, reduced-precision number formats

    Penggunaan smartphone dalam masa pandemi covid-19 ini dapat membantu siswa dan guru dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar di sekolah. Namun kegiatan belajar mengajar siswa dan guru dalam masa pandemi covid-19 ini kurang efesien. Menanggapi masalah di atas maka dalam penelitian ini dikembangkan multimedia pembelajaran interaktif berbasis android pada pelajaran Biologi untuk meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam proses pembelajaran. Metode Research and Development dengan model ADDIE digunakan dalam mengembangkan multimedia pembelajaran interaktif berbasis android pada pelajaran biologi kelas 1 SMA. Hasil pengujian kelayakan media pembelajaran oleh ahli materi menunjukkan 88%, untuk ahli media menunjukkan 83%, dan penilaian siswa terhadap media pembelajaran adalah 87%. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian ini maka dapat diambil kesimpulan bahwa Multimedia Pembelajaran Interaktif berbasis android pada Pelajaran Biologi layak digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran. &nbsp

    Conhecimento dos enfermeiros sobre a técnica de inserção do cateter central de inserção periférica em recém-nascidos

    The right to practice the Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) technique, mainly in neonatal intensive care units, was achieved by nursing and consists of efforts that lead to a new challenge: the improvement of the practice of this procedure. This study determined and evaluated the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired by nurses in qualification courses concerning aspects of PICC line insertion in the case of newborns. This descriptive and quantitative study used a questionnaire with nine questions to collect data. The study population was composed of 40 nurses qualified to insert a PICC line in newborns. According to the conceptual knowledge scale established for this study, the results reveal that the nurses have inadequate knowledge concerning the studied aspects, indicating the need for nurses to constantly update and improve their knowledge about this practice so as to better the quality of care delivered to newborns.La utilización del catéter central de inserción periférica (PICC), principalmente en unidades de terapia intensiva neonatal, es una conquista de la enfermería constituida por una trayectoria de esfuerzos que condujeron a un nuevo desafío - el perfeccionamiento del ejercicio de esa práctica. Este artículo tuvo como objetivo verificar el conocimiento teórico y práctico adquirido por los enfermeros, en los cursos de calificación, sobre algunos aspectos de la técnica de inserción del PICC en recién nacidos. Se trata de un estudio descriptivo, de naturaleza cuantitativa, que utilizó como instrumento de investigación un cuestionario con nueve preguntas. La población se constituyó de 40 enfermeros calificados para inserción del PICC en neonatos. Los resultados mostraron que, según la atribución conceptual establecida para el estudio, los enfermeros presentaron un nivel de conocimiento malo sobre esos aspectos, denotando la necesidad de actualización y perfeccionamiento constante de los enfermeros sobre esa práctica para mejorar la calidad de la asistencia prestada a los recién nacidos.A utilização do cateter central de inserção periférica (PICC), principalmente em unidades de terapia intensiva neonatal, é uma conquista da enfermagem constituída por trajetória de esforços que conduziu a um novo desafio - o aperfeiçoamento do exercício dessa prática. Este artigo teve como objetivo verificar o conhecimento teórico-prático adquirido pelos enfermeiros, nos cursos de qualificação, sobre alguns aspectos da técnica de inserção do PICC em recém-nascidos. Trata-se de estudo descritivo, de natureza quantitativa, que utilizou como instrumento de pesquisa um questionário com nove questões.     Experts em educação: circulação e sistematização de saberes geométricos para a formação de professores (Rio de Janeiro, final do século XIX)

    This research aims to analyze how the geometric knowledge was systematized for the formation of teachers at the end of nineteenth century, put into circulation in Rio de Janeiro by ProfessorsAmélia Fernandes da Costa, Luiz Augusto dos Reis and Manoel José Pereira Frazão, teachers designated by republican power to Europe for mission of pedagogical studies. The period under investigation was a time of intense changes in the educational scenario in Rio, a time of many national and international debates, and it was also the time of dissemination of proposals concerning the intuitive method. It is based theoretically and methodologically on the precepts of Cultural History (CHARTIER, 2002, 2010, 2011, DE CERTEAU, 2008), wishing to contribute to the history of school culture (JULIA, 2001, CHERVEL, 1990). Teachers' professional knowledge, specifically the concepts of expert, expertise,knowledge to teach and knowledgefor teaching (HOFSTETTER; SCHNEUWLY, 2017) are used as a theoretical category and are used in the analysis of official reports produced by teachers and presented to the official bodies of the State and the articles of Pedagogical Journal, printed for the teachers. The analysis of the sources made it possible to verify that the activities of the teachers, as well as their active participation in the political questions and of the primary education,the call of the State for the mission, and consequent answer with the responsibility of producing an official report, fit them into the category of expert in education, allowing them to qualify. The thesis is that if they are experts, they participate effectively in the production of knowledge in the pedagogical field and. They put into circulation a proposal of a new "geometry for teaching" proper of the intuitive times, revealing the necessity of other knowledge to the teacher in addition to those coming from the disciplinary field of Geometry.This "geometry" was straight bound to drawings and to manual works, these also with proper characteristics, so that docent not enough to be an excellent designer, artist, or geometer, was needed of the teacher who taught the geometric knowledge a new professional knowledge. Thus, this is a reform of the Commission of 1891, as well as a strategy of creating policies of representation of teachers, in a rhythm of constant internationalization and school modernization.Esta pesquisa objetiva analisar como foram sistematizados os saberes geométricos para a formação de professores, no final do século XIX, postos em circulação no Rio de Janeiro pelos professores Amélia Fernandes da Costa, Luiz Augusto dos Reis e Manoel José Pereira Frazão, docentes designados pelo poder republicano à Europa para missão de estudos pedagógicos. O período investigado tratou de um tempo de intensas mudanças no cenário educacional carioca, momento com muitos debates, nacionais e internacionais, e também configurou-se como o tempo de disseminação das propostas concernentes ao método intuitivo. Fundamenta-se teórica e metodologicamente nos preceitos da História Cultural (CHARTIER, 2002, 2010, 2011; DE CERTEAU, 2008) desejando contribuir com a história da cultura escolar (JULIA, 2001; CHERVEL, 1990). Toma-se, como categoria teórica, os saberes profissionais docentes, especificamente os conceitos de expert, expertise, saberes a ensinar e saberes para ensinar (HOFSTETTER; SCHNEUWLY, 2017) que são empregados na análise dos relatórios oficiais produzidos pelos docentes e apresentado aos órgãos oficiais do Estado e os artigos da Revista Pedagogica, impresso direcionado para os professores. A análise das fontes possibilitou constatar que a atuação dos docentes, bem como suas participações ativas nas questões políticas e da instrução primária, a chamada do Estado para a missão e consequente resposta com a responsabilidade de produção de um relatório oficial, os enquandraram na categoria de expert em educação permitindo, assim, qualificá-los. Tem-se, então, a tese de que são experts, participam efetivamente na produção de saberes no campo pedagógico. Colocaram em circulação uma proposta de uma nova “geometria para ensinar”, própria dos tempos intuitivos, revelando a necessidade de outros saberes ao professor para além dos advindos propriamente do campo disciplinar Geometria. Esta “geometria” estava diretamente atrelada ao desenho e aos trabalhos manuais, estes também com características próprias, de forma que ao docente não bastava ser um exímio desenhista, artista, ou geômetra, era exigido do professor que ensinava os saberes geométricos um novo saber profissional.     Abstrak Pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di sekolah baik kota maupun daerah terpencil masih menghadapi berbagai problematik, baik secara internal (diri pendidik dan peserta didik) maupun eksternal, seperti perencanaan pembelajaran. Berdasarkan hal itu, diadakan penelitian dengan judul Problematik Perencanaan Pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMAK Suria Atambua. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan problematik perencanaan pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMAK Suria Atambua, Sumber data berupa aktivitas pendidik dalam merencanakan kegiatan pembelajaran. Data berupa dokumentasi RPP yang disusun oleh pendidik dan wawancara. Data yang telah diperoleh diindetifikasi, diklasifikasi, dan dianalisis berdasarkan rumusan masalah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendidik yang mengajar pada SMAK Suria Atambua masih terdapat problematik pada perencanaan, berupa: ketidaklengkapan unsur RPP pada identitas, ketidaklengkapan unsur RPP pada materi pembelajaran, ketidaksistematisan unsur RPP pada rincian alokasi waktu, ketidaktepatan unsur RPP pada pemilihan media pembelajaran, dan &nbsp;ketidaklengkapan unsur RPP pada penilaian hasil belajar. &nbsp
