The effect of adding Agaricus blazei to the diet of broilers on immunity, serum parameters, and antioxidant activity was evaluated. A total of 840 1-day-old chicks were used, distributed among five levels of a completely randomized design (0.0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, and 0.20% A. blazei), with six replications and 28 birds per experimental unit. The weights of the thymus, spleen and cloacal bursa were not influenced (P > 0.05). Leukocytes, macrophages and nitric oxide were unaffected (P > 0.05), but at each supplementation level compared with the control, differences appeared in the percentages of eosinophils and macrophages (P 0.05) at 42 days. Hypocholesterolemic effect was demonstrated (P 0.05). The antioxidant activity of mushroom showed a positive linear effect (P < 0.05) on DPPH capture on day zero of meat cooling. The inclusion of A. blazei in the diet of broilers provided an immunostimulatory activity and hypocholesterolemic effect. Residual compounds with antioxidant activity were present in the meat, which may promote tissue protection of the animal in vivo, making possible the use of A. blazei as a natural additive.3742235224

Differential Geometry applied to Acoustics : Non Linear Propagation in Reissner Beams

Although acoustics is one of the disciplines of mechanics, its "geometrization" is still limited to a few areas. As shown in the work on nonlinear propagation in Reissner beams, it seems that an interpretation of the theories of acoustics through the concepts of differential geometry can help to address the non-linear phenomena in their intrinsic qualities. This results in a field of research aimed at establishing and solving dynamic models purged of any artificial nonlinearity by taking advantage of symmetry properties underlying the use of Lie groups. The geometric constructions needed for reduction are presented in the context of the "covariant" approach.Comment: Submitted to GSI2013 - Geometric Science of Informatio

Histiocytic Necrotizing Lymphadenitis (kikuchi Lymphadenitis) In An Hiv-positive Patient

    Get PDF
Histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, or Kikuchi's lymphadenitis (KL), is an unusual form of lymphadenitis, generally with self-limited clinical course. KL has been reported in rare patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Pathogenesis of the lesion is probably related to an impaired immune function. The purpose of the present article is to report on one case in which KL was diagnosed in an HIV-infected patient. Histomorphology and immunophenotype were similar to previous reports, but a focus of activated CD30+ macrophages was seen, what might be due to the immunological status of the patient. EBV was not detected on the sections using the in situ hybridization technique. Although rare, the occurrence of KL in HIV-infected subjects must be emphasized, because of the potential misdiagnosis of malignancy, especially in the presence of CD30+ cells.445265268Abad, A., Baraia-Etxaburu, J., Muñoz, J., Santamaria, J.M., Kikuchi disease in an acquired immunodeficiency syndrome patient (1999) Enferm. Electron-scattering cross sections for collisions with tetrahydrofuran from 50 to 5000 eV

    Get PDF
In this paper, we report on total electron tetrahydrofuran (C4 H8 O) scattering cross-section measurements for energies in the range from 50 to 5000 eV with experimental errors of about 5%. In addition, integral elastic and inelastic cross sections have been calculated over a broad energy range (1-10000 eV), with an optical potential method assuming a screening-corrected independent atom representation. Partial and total ionization cross sections have been also obtained by combining simultaneous electron and ion measurements with a time-of-flight analysis of the ionic induced fragmentation. Finally, an average energy distribution of secondary electrons has been derived from these measurements in order to provide data for modeling electron-induced damage in biomolecular systems. © 2009 The American Physical Society.de Educación y Ciencia Plan Nacional de Física, This study has been partially supported by the following research projects and institutions: Ministerio Project No. FIS2006-00702, Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear CSN, European Science Foundation COST Action CM0601 and EIPAM Project, Acciones Integradas Hispano-Portuguesas Project No. HP2006-0042Peer Reviewe

    GG-Strands

    Get PDF
A GG-strand is a map g(t,s):R×RGg(t,{s}):\,\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{R}\to G for a Lie group GG that follows from Hamilton's principle for a certain class of GG-invariant Lagrangians. The SO(3)-strand is the GG-strand version of the rigid body equation and it may be regarded physically as a continuous spin chain. Here, SO(3)KSO(3)_K-strand dynamics for ellipsoidal rotations is derived as an Euler-Poincar\'e system for a certain class of variations and recast as a Lie-Poisson system for coadjoint flow with the same Hamiltonian structure as for a perfect complex fluid. For a special Hamiltonian, the SO(3)KSO(3)_K-strand is mapped into a completely integrable generalization of the classical chiral model for the SO(3)-strand. Analogous results are obtained for the Sp(2)Sp(2)-strand. The Sp(2)Sp(2)-strand is the GG-strand version of the Sp(2)Sp(2) Bloch-Iserles ordinary differential equation, whose solutions exhibit dynamical sorting. Numerical solutions show nonlinear interactions of coherent wave-like solutions in both cases. Diff(R){\rm Diff}(\mathbb{R})-strand equations on the diffeomorphism group G=Diff(R)G={\rm Diff}(\mathbb{R}) are also introduced and shown to admit solutions with singular support (e.g., peakons).Comment: 35 pages, 5 figures, 3rd version. Generating fuzzy rules by learning from olive tree transpiration measurement - An algorithm to automatize Granier sap flow data analysis

    Get PDF
The present study aims at developing an intelligent system of automating data analysis and prediction embedded in a fuzzy logic algorithm (FAUSY) to capture the relationship between environmental variables and sap flow measurements (Granier method). Environmental thermal gradients often interfere with Granier sap flow measurements since this method uses heat as a tracer, thus introducing a bias in transpiration flux calculation. The FAUSY algorithm is applied to solve measurement problems and provides an approximate and yet effective way of finding the relationship between the environmental variables and the natural temperature gradient (NTG), which is too complex or too ill-defined for precise mathematical analysis. In the process, FAUSY extracts the relationships from a set of input–output environmental observations, thus general directions for algorithm-based machine learning in fuzzy systems are outlined. Through an iterative procedure, the algorithm plays with the learning or forecasting via a simulated model. After a series of error control iterations, the outcome of the algorithm may become highly refined and be able to evolve into a more formal structure of rules, facilitating the automation of Granier sap flow data analysis. The system presented herein simulates the occurrence of NTG with reasonable accuracy, with an average residual error of 2.53% for sap flux rate, when compared to data processing performed in the usual way. For practical applications, this is an acceptable margin of error given that FAUSY could correct NTG errors up to an average of 76% of the normal manual correction process. In this sense, FAUSY provides a powerful and flexible way of establishing the relationships between the environment and NTG occurrencesinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Electron interactions with tetrahydrofuran

In this paper, we summarize our recent experimental and theoretical results on electron scattering from gaseous tetrahydrofuran (THF). Electron-impact ionization and total scattering cross sections were determined experimentally for energies between 50-5000 eV. Electron energy loss spectra were measured in the keV range using a transmission beam technique and for smaller energies (15-50 eV) with a crossed-beam apparatus. Using an optical potential method assuming the screening-corrected additivity rule, total, elastic and inelastic cross sections including dipole interactions were calculated (1eV - 10keV) in order to complement the experimental data. Elastic differential cross sections were also obtained. An empirical approximation to the inelastic angular distributions based on differential cross sections is proposed. The available integral and differential cross sections and energy loss distributions in the range 1 eV - 10 keV are combined into a table of recommended electron interaction cross sections with THF.Peer Reviewe
