Perturbative Solutions of the Extended Constraint Equations in General Relativity
The extended constraint equations arise as a special case of the conformal
constraint equations that are satisfied by an initial data hypersurface in
an asymptotically simple spacetime satisfying the vacuum conformal Einstein
equations developed by H. Friedrich. The extended constraint equations consist
of a quasi-linear system of partial differential equations for the induced
metric, the second fundamental form and two other tensorial quantities defined
on , and are equivalent to the usual constraint equations that satisfies
as a spacelike hypersurface in a spacetime satisfying Einstein's vacuum
equation. This article develops a method for finding perturbative,
asymptotically flat solutions of the extended constraint equations in a
neighbourhood of the flat solution on Euclidean space. This method is
fundamentally different from the `classical' method of Lichnerowicz and York
that is used to solve the usual constraint equations.Comment: This third and final version has been accepted for publication in

Special Lagrangian cones with higher genus links
For every odd natural number g=2d+1 we prove the existence of a countably
infinite family of special Lagrangian cones in C^3 over a closed Riemann
surface of genus g, using a geometric PDE gluing method.Comment: 48 page
Ion detection in the photoionization of a Rb Bose-Einstein condensate
Two-photon ionization of Rubidium atoms in a magneto-optical trap and a
Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) is experimentally investigated. Using 100 ns
laser pulses, we detect single ions photoionized from the condenstate with a
35(10)% efficiency. The measurements are performed using a quartz cell with
external electrodes, allowing large optical access for BECs and optical

Les données de la campagne ZoNéCo 1 permettent de préciser la morphostructure du Sud des rides calédonienne et Loyauté qui s'avèrent plus complexes que les cartes précédentes ne le montraient, mais on retrouve les principales structures de la région Calédonie-Loyauté. L'imagerie met en évidence les zones de roches nues ou encroûtées, la présence d'écoulements gravitaires du Sud du bassin des Loyauté vers le bassin Sud-Fidjien. (Résumé d'auteur
Grain Surface Models and Data for Astrochemistry
AbstractThe cross-disciplinary field of astrochemistry exists to understand the formation, destruction, and survival of molecules in astrophysical environments. Molecules in space are synthesized via a large variety of gas-phase reactions, and reactions on dust-grain surfaces, where the surface acts as a catalyst. A broad consensus has been reached in the astrochemistry community on how to suitably treat gas-phase processes in models, and also on how to present the necessary reaction data in databases; however, no such consensus has yet been reached for grain-surface processes. A team of ∼25 experts covering observational, laboratory and theoretical (astro)chemistry met in summer of 2014 at the Lorentz Center in Leiden with the aim to provide solutions for this problem and to review the current state-of-the-art of grain surface models, both in terms of technical implementation into models as well as the most up-to-date information available from experiments and chemical computations. This review builds on the results of this workshop and gives an outlook for future directions
Formation and interactions of cold and ultracold molecules: new challenges for interdisciplinary physics
Progress on researches in the field of molecules at cold and ultracold
temperatures is reported in this review. It covers extensively the experimental
methods to produce, detect and characterize cold and ultracold molecules
including association of ultracold atoms, deceleration by external fields and
kinematic cooling. Confinement of molecules in different kinds of traps is also
discussed. The basic theoretical issues related to the knowledge of the
molecular structure, the atom-molecule and molecule-molecule mutual
interactions, and to their possible manipulation and control with external
fields, are reviewed. A short discussion on the broad area of applications

The physics of dipolar bosonic quantum gases
This article reviews the recent theoretical and experimental advances in the
study of ultracold gases made of bosonic particles interacting via the
long-range, anisotropic dipole-dipole interaction, in addition to the
short-range and isotropic contact interaction usually at work in ultracold
gases. The specific properties emerging from the dipolar interaction are
emphasized, from the mean-field regime valid for dilute Bose-Einstein
condensates, to the strongly correlated regimes reached for dipolar bosons in

Three-dimensional printing of porous load-bearing bioceramic scaffolds
This article reports on the use of the binder jetting three-dimensional printing process combined with sintering to process bioceramic materials to form micro- and macroporous three-dimensional structures. Three different glass-ceramic formulations, apatite–wollastonite and two silicate-based glasses, have been processed using this route to create porous structures which have Young’s modulus equivalent to cortical bone and average bending strengths in the range 24–36 MPa. It is demonstrated that a range of macroporous geometries can be created with accuracies of ±0.25 mm over length scales up to 40 mm. Hot-stage microscopy is a valuable tool in the definition of processing parameters for the sintering step of the process. Overall, it is concluded that binder jetting followed by sintering offers a versatile process for the manufacture of load-bearing bioceramic components for bone replacement applications
