Faktor Akademik Dan Non Akademik Persepsi Mahasiswa Serta Dosen Terhadap Penyelesaian Penulisan Thesis Para Mahasiswa S2 Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Pascasarjana Unnes
The problems of this research are what is the average time spent for the S2 English Education Program students for finishing their thesis, what academic and non academic handicaps faced by the students to finish the thesis, what academic and non academic handicaps faced by the lecturers to supervise the students in finishing their thesis, How is to solve the problems in finishing the thesis. The design of the research is descriptive qualitative with the population English Education Program (EEP) students after finishing their thesis examinations and the lecturers as the advisors. The samples taken are thirty students and eight lecturers chosen randomly. The data were collected through two questionnaires namely for students dealing with the students' identity, questions dealing with academic factors, questions dealing with non academic factors, questions addressed to the lecturers. The conclusions taken are as follows: the students' academic competence reflected in thirty students is good; the scores for the subjects directly related to the thesis are good, though some are repeated with the commulative achievement index of 3,55. The scores for the thesis examinations are starting from AB to A or 80 above. However, there are still some problems in writing the thesis especially in grammar, diction, spelling, punctuation, cohesion, coherence, content, reference, format, numbering. The errors occurred in all chapters including in writing the abstract, acknowledgement, table of content, cover, and bibliography. Most students have the guidance book to write the thesis; the process to get the advisor decree takes one week; the meeting with the advisors is scheduled; the oral communication mode can be direct meeting through telephone and through sms. it always gets the response for an appointment from the advisors for consultation. The time period from one meeting to the other with the supervisor is one week. The advisor is helpful and in average they master the material proposed by the students. Mostly there is no contradictory opinion between the first and the second advisors. The references available in the English department library are helpful for the students to write the thesis but not in the central library of Unnes; The examiners of thesis don't demand much revision; the data collection and the document preparation needed is well done; at the beginning the students do not master the material but after reading a lot and being guided by the advisors they know better.3) most of the students have great motivation in finishing the thesis for financial reason; most of the students are tough and patient in writing the thesis for the fact that they can finish the revision quickly; some students have very limited skill of research that makes them to be guided much; most of the students have politeness in asking the consultation though some do not. There are still some students who are reluctant to read the original books; they prefer to quote others' quotations and still make mistake in the format including in the numbering system
Prevalence of recurrent aphthous ulceration in the Indian Population
Objective: Patients with an oral ulcer may present initially to a general physician or a dental practitioner. Majority
of the ulcers are benign and resolve spontaneously but small proportions are malignant. The aim of the present
study was to determine the prevalence of recurrent aphthous ulcerations in the Indian population.
Material and Methods: 3244 patients attending the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology during the period
from November, 2010 to December, 2012 with various complaints were examined. Of the patients examined 1669
were females and 1575 were males.
Results: 705 patients presented with recurrent aphthous ulceration (21.7%). Females (56.3%) were more commonly
affected than males (43.7%). Patients in the third and fourth decade were most commonly affected. Stress was the
most common factor associated with recurrent aphthous stomatitis (386 patients). 54.5% patients did not take any
medications and 72.9% patients opined that the condition needed no dental consultation.
Conclusion: The results of the present study indicate that recurrent aphthous ulceration is a common mucosal
disorder in the Indian population. The early and proper diagnosis of the ulcers will help the dental practitioner in
providing information to the patient regarding awareness and management of the condition
Epidermal structure and development of stomata in Ephedra foliata Boiss.
The epidermal structure of the leaf and stem of Ephedra foliata Boiss. is described. The epidermis of internodes and leaves shows longitudinal rows of cells and stomata. In the nodes and the leaf bases the stomata are irregularly orientated. The subsidiary cells are perigene and the development of stomata is typically haplocheilic
Generalized h-index for Disclosing Latent Facts in Citation Networks
What is the value of a scientist and its impact upon the scientific thinking?
How can we measure the prestige of a journal or of a conference? The evaluation
of the scientific work of a scientist and the estimation of the quality of a
journal or conference has long attracted significant interest, due to the
benefits from obtaining an unbiased and fair criterion. Although it appears to
be simple, defining a quality metric is not an easy task. To overcome the
disadvantages of the present metrics used for ranking scientists and journals,
J.E. Hirsch proposed a pioneering metric, the now famous h-index. In this
article, we demonstrate several inefficiencies of this index and develop a pair
of generalizations and effective variants of it to deal with scientist ranking
and with publication forum ranking. The new citation indices are able to
disclose trendsetters in scientific research, as well as researchers that
constantly shape their field with their influential work, no matter how old
they are. We exhibit the effectiveness and the benefits of the new indices to
unfold the full potential of the h-index, with extensive experimental results
obtained from DBLP, a widely known on-line digital library.Comment: 19 pages, 17 tables, 27 figure
Objective surface evaluation of fiber reinforced polymer composites
The mechanical properties of advanced composites are essential for their structural performance, but the surface finish on exterior composite panels is of critical importance for customer satisfaction. This paper describes the application of wavelet texture analysis (WTA) to the task of automatically classifying the surface finish properties of two fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composite construction types (clear resin and gel-coat) into three quality grades. Samples were imaged and wavelet multi-scale decomposition was used to create a visual texture representation of the sample, capturing image features at different scales and orientations. Principal components analysis was used to reduce the dimensionality of the texture feature vector, permitting successful classification of the samples using only the first principal component. This work extends and further validates the feasibility of this approach as the basis for automated non-contact classification of composite surface finish using image analysis.<br /
A Minimal Threshold of c-di-GMP Is Essential for Fruiting Body Formation and Sporulation in Myxococcus xanthus
Generally, the second messenger bis-(3’-5’)-cyclic dimeric GMP (c-di-GMP) regulates the switch between motile and sessile lifestyles in bacteria. Here, we show that c-di-GMP is an essential regulator of multicellular development in the social bacterium Myxococcus xanthus. In response to starvation, M. xanthus initiates a developmental program that culminates in formation of spore-filled fruiting bodies. We show that c-di-GMP accumulates at elevated levels during development and that this increase is essential for completion of development whereas excess c-di-GMP does not interfere with development. MXAN3735 (renamed DmxB) is identified as a diguanylate cyclase that only functions during development and is responsible for this increased c-di-GMP accumulation. DmxB synthesis is induced in response to starvation, thereby restricting DmxB activity to development. DmxB is essential for development and functions downstream of the Dif chemosensory system to stimulate exopolysaccharide accumulation by inducing transcription of a subset of the genes encoding proteins involved in exopolysaccharide synthesis. The developmental defects in the dmxB mutant are non-cell autonomous and rescued by co-development with a strain proficient in exopolysaccharide synthesis, suggesting reduced exopolysaccharide accumulation as the causative defect in this mutant. The NtrC-like transcriptional regulator EpsI/Nla24, which is required for exopolysaccharide accumulation, is identified as a c-diGMP receptor, and thus a putative target for DmxB generated c-di-GMP. Because DmxB can be—at least partially—functionally replaced by a heterologous diguanylate cyclase, these results altogether suggest a model in which a minimum threshold level of c-di-GMP is essential for the successful completion of multicellular development in M. xanthus
Effect of tissue glue versus suture in pterygium surgery in a tertiary care center of North-East India
Background: Pterygium is a triangular fibrovascular tissue of conjunctiva encroaching on to the cornea. Currently, conjunctival autograft technique after excision is reported as the most suitable and safest method. The autograft transplantation can be done either with the help of suture or tissue adhesives. Objective of the study was to evaluate the effects of tissue glue versus suture in limbal conjunctival autograft transplantation among the patients undergoing pterygium excision. Methods: A prospective study was carried out in a tertiary eye care hospital. 60 patients with primary pterygium underwent limbal conjunctival autograft transplantation. They were enrolled into two groups, group-A (tissue glue, N=30) and group-B (suture group, N=30). Operative time, postoperative patient comfort and recurrence of pterygium were assessed. The patients were followed-up for 6 months. Results: The mean surgical time in fibrin glue group (23.56±2.80) was significantly less compared to suture (30.78±2.20) group with p0.005).Conclusions: The use of fibrin glue for securing the limbal conjunctival autograft in pterygium surgery significantly reduces the operating time and postoperative discomfort
Reading While Listening (RWL) in an Extensive Listening Course to Reduce Student Teachers’ Foreign Language Listening Anxiety (FLLA)
In most of initial teacher education (ITE) institutions in Indonesia, teaching listening is mostly anchored with teaching for comprehension in which the inputs are restricted in classroom context or teacher educators’ textbooks. Lacking of inputs in listening may cause the inability to process larger aural texts in normal rates. Consequently, it is indicated that the types of listening inputs influence student teachers’ foreign language listening anxiety (FLLA). They experience FLLA with less listening inputs and the high rate of listening fluency during processing the authentic listening materials. However, in fact, exposing far richer and the greater quantity of comprehensible inputs in an extensive listening (EL) is the main requirement to become proficient teachers in the actual classrooms. With this reason, reducing their FLLA using comprehensible input in EL is highly pivotal. In addition, their FLLA can also be reduced using listening support to facilitate their comprehension. This correlated experimental study was to examine the effect of reading while listening (RwL) as the support and comprehensible input of listening. It was conducted between March to April 2018 in an English Education Department of a private ITE context in East Java, Indonesia. 57 student teachers participated in the foreign language listening anxiety (FLLA) survey to determine their FLLA levels in pre-test. 37 student teachers identified as high FLLA group according to the mean scores of FLLA survey were further investigated in the RwL experimentation. It reveals that the scores of student teachers’ FLLA survey after being taught using RwL input in post-test were lower than their previous FLLA scores in initial FLLA scores classification levels in the pre-test. It shows that the scores of FLLA student teachers were significantly reduced. It indicates that reducing student teachers’ high FLLA anxiety level via RwL contributes to the application of EL.

The soft power of popular cinema: the case of India
Among BRICS nations, India has the most developed and globalised film industry, and the Indian government as well as corporations are increasingly deploying the power of Bollywood in their international interactions. India’s soft power, arising from its cultural and civilizational influence outside its territorial boundaries, has a long history. Focusing on contemporary India’s thriving Hindi film industry, this article suggests that the globalisation of the country’s popular cinema, aided by a large diaspora, has created possibilities of promoting India’s public diplomacy. It examines the global imprint of this cinema as an instrument of soft power
