The order-disorder transition of the (3x3)Sn/Ge(111) phase
Growing attention has been drawn in the past years to the \alpha-phase (1/3
monolayer) of Sn on Ge(111), which undergoes a transition from the low
temperature (3x3) phase to the room temperature (\sqrt3 x \sqrt3)R30 one. On
the basis of scanning tunnelling microscopy experiments, this transition was
claimed to be the manifestation of a surface charge density wave (SCDW), i.e. a
periodic redistribution of charge, possibly accompanied by a periodic lattice
distortion, which determines a change of the surface symmetry. As further
experiments with different techniques were being performed, increasing doubts
were cast about the SCDW model. We have measured by He scattering the long
range order of the 1/3 monolayer phase of Sn on the Ge(111) surface throughout
the phase transition. The transition has been found of the order-disorder type
with a critical temperature Tc=220 K. The expected 3-State Potts critical
exponents are shown to be consistent with the observed power law dependence of
the (3x3) order parameter and its correlation length close to Tc, thus
excluding a charge density wave driven phase transition.Comment: 6 pages with 4 figures; updated reference
The Hungarian Monetary Policy Model
March 2011 marked the introduction of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank's Monetary Policy Model (MPM), representing a paradigm shift in both macroeconomic projection and monetary policy decision support. In contrast to previous conditional projections, the MPM provides an endogenous definition of both the projected policy rate and the projected exchange rate. Given the forward-looking nature of the model, expectations of economic agents play a key role in the monetary transmission process; therefore, the future achievement of the inflation target is guaranteed by the projected path of the interest rate over the forecast horizon. In this paper, we discuss the underlying structure and logic behind the MPM, describe the key behavioural equations and examine how the channels of monetary transmission appear in the model. In addition, we present the empirical validation process in detail from calibration, through Bayesian estimation and discussion of the economic properties of the model to the historical projection exercise. Finally, we discuss the main challenges we faced during the first year of application

Such tests do not reflect the behaviour of a complete building under either normal temperature or fire conditions. Many aspects of behaviour occur due to the interaction between members and cannot be predicted or observed in tests of isolated elements. Determination of the (3x3)-Sn/Ge(111) structure by photoelectron diffraction
At a coverage of about 1/3 monolayer, Sn deposited on Ge(111) below 550 forms
a metastable (sqrt3 x sqrt3)R30 phase. This phase continuously and reversibly
transforms into a (3x3) one, upon cooling below 200 K. The photoemission
spectra of the Sn 4d electrons from the (3x3)-Sn/Ge(111) surface present two
components which are attributed to inequivalent Sn atoms in T4 bonding sites.
This structure has been explored by photoelectron diffraction experiments
performed at the ALOISA beamline of the Elettra storage ring in Trieste
(Italy). The modulation of the intensities of the two Sn components, caused by
the backscattering of the underneath Ge atoms, has been measured as a function
of the emission angle at fixed kinetic energies and viceversa. The bond angle
between Sn and its nearest neighbour atoms in the first Ge layer (Sn-Ge1) has
been measured by taking polar scans along the main symmetry directions and it
was found almost equivalent for the two components. The corresponding bond
lengths are also quite similar, as obtained by studying the dependence on the
photoelectron kinetic energy, while keeping the photon polarization and the
collection direction parallel to the Sn-Ge1 bond orientation (bond emission). A
clear difference between the two bonding sites is observed when studying the
energy dependence at normal emission, where the sensitivity to the Sn height
above the Ge atom in the second layer is enhanced. This vertical distance is
found to be 0.3 Angstroms larger for one Sn atom out of the three contained in
the lattice unit cell. The (3x3)-Sn/Ge(111) is thus characterized by a
structure where the Sn atom and its three nearest neighbour Ge atoms form a
rather rigid unit that presents a strong vertical distortion with respect to
the underneath atom of the second Ge layer.Comment: 10 pages with 9 figures, added reference
The seesaw mechanism at TeV scale in the 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos
We implement the seesaw mechanism in the 3-3-1 model with right-handed
neutrinos. This is accomplished by the introduction of a scalar sextet into the
model and the spontaneous violation of the lepton number. We identify the
Majoron as a singlet under symmetry, which makes it
safe under the current bounds imposed by electroweak data. The main result of
this work is that the seesaw mechanism works already at TeV scale with the
outcome that the right-handed neutrino masses lie in the electroweak scale, in
the range from MeV to tens of GeV. This window provides a great opportunity to
test their appearance at current detectors, though when we contrast our results
with some previous analysis concerning detection sensitivity at LHC, we
conclude that further work is needed in order to validate this search.Comment: about 13 pages, no figure
Transcription profiling reveals potential mechanisms of dysbiosis in the oral microbiome of rhesus macaques with chronic untreated SIV infection.
A majority of individuals infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) have inadequate access to antiretroviral therapy and ultimately develop debilitating oral infections that often correlate with disease progression. Due to the impracticalities of conducting host-microbe systems-based studies in HIV infected patients, we have evaluated the potential of simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) infected rhesus macaques to serve as a non-human primate model for oral manifestations of HIV disease. We present the first description of the rhesus macaque oral microbiota and show that a mixture of human commensal bacteria and "macaque versions" of human commensals colonize the tongue dorsum and dental plaque. Our findings indicate that SIV infection results in chronic activation of antiviral and inflammatory responses in the tongue mucosa that may collectively lead to repression of epithelial development and impact the microbiome. In addition, we show that dysbiosis of the lingual microbiome in SIV infection is characterized by outgrowth of Gemella morbillorum that may result from impaired macrophage function. Finally, we provide evidence that the increased capacity of opportunistic pathogens (e.g. E. coli) to colonize the microbiome is associated with reduced production of antimicrobial peptides

Mixing of Active and Sterile Neutrinos
We investigate mixing of neutrinos in the MSM (neutrino Minimal Standard
Model), which is the MSM extended by three right-handed neutrinos. Especially,
we study elements of the mixing matrix between three
left-handed neutrinos () and two sterile
neutrinos () which are responsible to the seesaw mechanism
generating the suppressed masses of active neutrinos as well as the generation
of the baryon asymmetry of the universe (BAU). It is shown that
can be suppressed by many orders of magnitude compared with
and , when the Chooz angle is large in the
normal hierarchy of active neutrino masses. We then discuss the neutrinoless
double beta decay in this framework by taking into account the contributions
not only from active neutrinos but also from all the three sterile neutrinos.
It is shown that and give substantial, destructive contributions
when their masses are smaller than a few 100 MeV, and as a results receive no stringent constraint from the current bounds on such decay.
Finally, we discuss the impacts of the obtained results on the direct searches
of in meson decays for the case when are lighter than pion
mass. We show that there exists the allowed region for with such
small masses in the normal hierarchy case even if the current bound on the
lifetimes of from the big bang nucleosynthesis is imposed. It is also
pointed out that the direct search by using and might miss such since the branching ratios can be
extremely small due to the cancellation in , but the search by
can cover the whole allowed region by improving the

Hemodynamic impact of isobaric levobupivacaine versus hyperbaric bupivacaine for subarachnoid anesthesia in patients aged 65 and older undergoing hip surgery
BackgroundThe altered hemodynamics, and therefore the arterial hypotension is the most prevalent adverse effect after subarachnoid anesthesia. The objective of the study was to determine the exact role of local anesthetic selection underlying spinal anesthesia-induced hypotension in the elderly patient. We conducted a descriptive, observational pilot study to assess the hemodynamic impact of subarachnoid anesthesia with isobaric levobupivacaine versus hyperbaric bupivacaine for hip fracture surgery.DescriptionHundred twenty ASA status I-IV patients aged 65 and older undergoing hip fracture surgery were enrolled. The primary objective of our study was to compare hemodynamic effects based on systolic blood pressure (SBP) and dyastolic blood pressure (DBP) values, heart rate (HR) and hemoglobin (Hb) and respiratory effects based on partial oxygen saturation (SpO2%) values. The secondary objective was to assess potential adverse events with the use of levobupivacaine versus bupivacaine. Assessments were performed preoperatively, at 30 minutes into surgery, at the end of anesthesia and at 48 hours and 6 months after surgery.Among intraoperative events, the incidence of hypotension was statistically significantly higher (p <0.05) in group BUPI (38.3%) compared to group LEVO (13.3%). There was a decrease (p <0.05) in systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) at 30 minutes intraoperatively (19% in group BUPI versus 17% in group LEVO). SpO2% increased at 30 minutes after anesthesia onset (1% in group BUPI versus 1.5% in group LEVO). Heart rate (HR) decreased at 30 minutes after anesthesia onset (5% in group BUPI versus 9% in group L). Hemoglobin (Hb) decreased from time of operating room (OR) admission to the end of anesthesia (9.3% in group BUPI versus 12.5% in group LEVO). The incidence of red blood cell (RBC) transfusion was 13.3% in group BUPI versus 31.7% in group LEVO, this difference was statistically significant. Among postoperative events, the incidence of congestive heart failure (CHF) was significantly higher in group BUPI (8,3%). At 6 months after anesthesia, no differences were found.ConclusionsGiven the hemodynamic stability and lower incidence of intraoperative hypotension observed, levobupivacaine could be the agent of choice for subarachnoid anesthesia in elderly patients
