Identifying most important skills for PhD students in Food Science and Technology: a comparison between industry and academic stakeholders
Nowadays, there is an increasing need of new skills for PhD students to face the future labour market prospects. PhD graduates must have qualities attractive not only in academia but also outside, in both manufacture and service-oriented enterprises, in small innovative companies, and in the civil services and public administration, among others. To know what the needs of these future employees are, is of great importance to be able to improve their personal and academic formation. The aim of this work was, in the framework of the EC-funded ISEKI Food 4 network, to evaluate the most desirable specific and soft skills that PhD students should acquire by the end of their doctoral studies. To this aim, several surveys were conducted and sent to the different stakeholders (academia and food industry partners) in order to collect the information needed. Results showed that competences related to research skills and techniques, research management, personal effectiveness and communication skills were considered to be the most valuable skills to be acquired by our PhD students to meet the future needs of the labour market. The importance of these skills was appreciated differently, depending on the stakeholder. To sum up, some recommendations to integrate such valuable skills into the curricula of the PhD student are given
Fluorine in AGB Carbon Stars Revisited
A reanalysis of the fluorine abundance in three Galactic AGB carbon stars (TX
Psc, AQ Sgr and R Scl) has been performed from the molecular HF (1-0) R9 line
at 2.3358 m. High-resolution (R) and high signal to noise
spectra obtained with the CRIRES spectrograph and the VLT telescope or from the
NOAO archive (for TX Psc) have been used. Our abundance analysis uses the
latest generation of MARCS model atmospheres for cool carbon rich stars. Using
spectral synthesis in LTE we derive for these stars fluorine abundances that
are systematically lower by dex in average with respect to the sole
previous estimates by Jorissen, Smith & Lambert (1992). The possible reasons of
this discrepancy are explored. We conclude that the difference may rely on the
blending with C-bearing molecules (CN and C) that were not properly taken
into account in the former study. The new F abundances are in better agreement
with the prediction of full network stellar models of low mass AGB stars. These
models also reproduce the -process elements distribution in the sampled
stars. This result, if confirmed in a larger sample of AGB stars, might
alleviate the current difficulty to explain the largest [F/O] ratios found by
Jorissen et al. In particular, it may not be necessary to search for
alternative nuclear chains affecting the production of F in AGB stars.Comment: 25 pages, 3 figures. to be appear in The Astrophysical Journal (Jan

Geometrically induced singular behavior of entanglement
We show that the geometry of the set of quantum states plays a crucial role
in the behavior of entanglement in different physical systems. More
specifically it is shown that singular points at the border of the set of
unentangled states appear as singularities in the dynamics of entanglement of
smoothly varying quantum states. We illustrate this result by implementing a
photonic parametric down conversion experiment. Moreover, this effect is
connected to recently discovered singularities in condensed matter models.Comment: v2: 4 pags, 4 figs. A discussion before the proof of Proposition 1

Development and validation of a method for the analysis of Ochratoxin A in roasted coffee by liquid chromatography/electrospray-mass spectrometry in Tandem (LC/ESI-MS/MS).
A method using LC/ESI-MS/MS for the quantitative analysis of Ochratoxin A in roasted coffee was described. Linearity was demonstrated (r = 0.9175). The limits of detection and quantification were 1.0 and 3.0 ng g-1, respectively. Trueness, repeatability and intermediate precision values were 89.0-108.8%; 2.4-13.7%; 12.5-17.8%, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report in which Ochratoxin A in roasted coffee is analysed by LC/ESI-MS/MS, contributing to the field of mycotoxin analysis, and it will be used for future production of Certified Reference Material
This work characterizes the sound insulation of classrooms' partition walls with doors to large corridors, evaluating the effect of filling the frame slits, on sound insulation. Objective acoustic parameters were evaluated before and after filling the existing gaps in the classroom doors with different materials/systems. Reverberation time, airborne sound insulation and background noise levels were measured. The goal was to quantify and assess which material or system had better results in sound insulation and resulted in greater reduction in sound levels inside the classroom
