Kernel bandwidth estimation for moving object detection in non-stabilized cameras

The evolution of the television market is led by 3DTV technology, and this tendency can accelerate during the next years according to expert forecasts. However, 3DTV delivery by broadcast networks is not currently developed enough, and acts as a bottleneck for the complete deployment of the technology. Thus, increasing interest is dedicated to ste-reo 3DTV formats compatible with current HDTV video equipment and infrastructure, as they may greatly encourage 3D acceptance. In this paper, different subsampling schemes for HDTV compatible transmission of both progressive and interlaced stereo 3DTV are studied and compared. The frequency characteristics and preserved frequency content of each scheme are analyzed, and a simple interpolation filter is specially designed. Finally, the advantages and disadvantages of the different schemes and filters are evaluated through quality testing on several progressive and interlaced video sequences

Competitive neural networks applied to face localization

Color-segmentation is very sensitive to changes in the intensity of light. Many algorithms do not tolerate variations in color hue which correspond, in fact, to the same object. Learning Vector Quantization (LVQ) networks learn to recognize groups of similar input vectors in such a way that neurons physically near to each other in the neuron layer respond to similar input vectors. Learning is supervised, the inputs vectors into target classes are chosen by the user. In this work a new algorithm based on LVQ is presented. It involves neural networks that operate directly on the image pixels with a decision function. This algorithm has been applied to spotting and tracking human faces, and shows more robustness than other algorithms for the same task

Alimentos saludables: la percepción de los jóvenes adolescentes en Monterrey, Nuevo León

En este artículo se presentan los resultados de la caracterización del consumo de alimentos saludables en Monterrey, obtenidos mediante la aplicación de una encuesta y un Análisis Factorial. Este último permite explicar las correlaciones entre las variables observadas, en términos de un número menor de variables no observadas llamadas factores. El objetivo fue conocer la percepción de los adolescentes sobre el riesgo a la salud que existe en torno a su alimentación cotidiana. Uno de los principales resultados de la investigación es que los adolescentes poseen una percepción poco clara de lo que sería una alimentación saludable

Particle filter in vision tracking

The extended Kalman filter (EKF) has been used as the standard technique for performing recursive nonlinear estimation in vision tracking. In this report, we present an alternative filter with performance superior to that of the EKF. This algorithm, referred to as the Particle filter. Particle filtering was originally developed to track objects in clutter (multi-modal distribution). We present as results the filter behavior when exist objects with similar characteristic to the object to track

Kalman filter for vision tracking

The Kalman filter has been used successfully in different prediction applications or state determination of a system. One important field in computer vision is the object tracking. Different movement conditions and occlusions can hinder the vision tracking of an object. In this report we present the use of the Kalman filter in the vision tracking. We consider the capacity of the Kalman filter to allow small occlusions and also the use of the extended Kalman filter (EKF) to model complex movements of objects

“Cuestionamos este sistema político forjado por Pinochet”: la representación del pasado reciente en la confederación de estudiantes de Chile durante las movilizaciones del año 2011

Las movilizaciones estudiantiles del año 2011 han sido reconocidas por la capacidad que tuvieron tanto para incidir en la discusión pública, como por su carácter transversal, al conseguir convocar a distintos sectores en favor de sus demandas. Un espacio de organización estudiantil que fue central durante las movilizaciones fue la Confederación Nacional de Estudiantes de Chile (CONFECH). Desde esta organización se planteó el estado de crisis del sistema educación y cuyo origen fue atribuido, en gran parte, a las transformaciones implementadas por la dictadura. Dentro de este marco, el artículo busca ahondar en la forma en que fue representada la dictadura desde el espacio de la CONFECH, tomando como fuentes las intervenciones públicas de sus voceros y documentos de la organización. En esta línea, el articulo arroja algunas luces de cómo esta representación del pasado operó como una plataforma desde la cual los estudiantes elaboraron su diagnóstico del modelo educativo y su proyecto de transformación.Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educació
