Signs Workshop: the importance of natural gestures in the promotion of early communication skills of children with developmental disabilities
This article emphasises the importance of natural gestures and describes the framework and the development process of the “Signs Workshop” CD-ROM, which is a multimedia application for the promotion of early
communication skills of children with developmental disabilities. Signs Workshop CD-ROM was created in the scope of Down’s Comm Project, which was financed by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and is the result of a partnership between UNICA (Communication and Arts Research Unit of the University of Aveiro) and the Portuguese Down Syndrome Association (APPT21/Differences).Calouste Gulbenkian Foundatio
Comportamento parental face Trissomia 21
Depressive symptoms and suicidal behavior after first-episode psychosis : a comprehensive systematic review
© 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.Depressive symptoms and suicidal behavior are common among patients that suffered a first-episode psychosis. We searched Web of KnowledgeSM and Pubmed® for English and Portuguese original articles investigating prevalence of depressive symptoms and/or suicidal behavior and associated factors after first-episode psychosis. We included 19 studies from 12 countries, 7 studied depressive symptoms and 12 suicidal behavior. The findings confirm that depressive symptoms and suicidal behavior have high rates in the years after first-episode psychosis. Factors identified as being associated with depressive symptoms after first-episode psychosis were anomalies of psychosocial development, poor premorbid childhood adjustment, greater insight, loss, shame, low level of continuing positive symptoms and longer duration of untreated psychosis. Suicidal behavior was associated with previous suicide attempt, sexual abuse, comorbid polysubstance use, lower baseline functioning, longer time in treatment, recent negative events, older patients, longer duration of untreated psychosis, higher positive and negative psychotic symptoms, family history of severe mental disorder, substance use, depressive symptoms and cannabis use. Data also indicate that treatment and early intervention programs reduce depressive symptoms and suicidal behavior after first-episode psychosis. Future research should overcome some methodological discrepancies that exist between studies and limit generalization of current findings.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
A review of the order mysida in marine ecosystems: What we know what is yet to be known
We acknowledge financial support to FCT through a PhD grant awarded to Oliveira A.F. (2021.06254. BD). Also, we acknowledge financial support to CESAM by FCT/MCTES (UIDP/50017/2020+UIDB/50017/2020+ LA/P/0094/2020) and MARE (UIDB/04292/2020+UIDP/04292/2020) and the project LA/P/0069/2020 granted to
the Associate Laboratory ARNET, through national funds.Mysids have a high ecological importance, particularly by their role in marine food chains as a link between the
benthic and pelagic realms. Here we describe the relevant taxonomy, ecological aspects such as distribution and production, and their potential as ideal test organisms for environmental research. We also highlight their
importance in estuarine communities, trophic webs, and their life history, while demonstrating their potential in
addressing emergent problems. This review emphasizes the importance of mysids in understanding the impacts of climate change and their role in the ecology of estuarine communities. Although there is a dearth of research in genomic studies, this review emphasizes the relevance of mysids and their potential as a model organism in environmental assessment studies of prospective or retrospective nature and highlights the need for further research to enhance our understanding of this group’s ecological significance.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
