    Carboniferous auloporids from the Iberian Peninsula: palaeocology, diversity, and spatio-temporal distribution

    Auloporid corals are common in the Palaeozoic and very frequent in the Carboniferous buildups of the Iberian Peninsula. The aim of this study is to analyze the diversity of these corals through a taxonomical recognition of the species and morphotypes that occur in the Iberian Peninsula. Eighteen sections have been sampled between the Ossa-Morena (Mississippian) and Cantabrian (Pennsylvanian) zones dated as upper Viséan to early Kasimovian. In addition, other localities where auloporids occur and are cited in the literature have been also used for this study. The taxonomical identification has been carried out using the criteria proposed by Tchudinova (1980) with little modifications. Thus, eighteen morphotypes and two species belonging to nine nominal genera have been identified (Multithecopora sp. A-H, Syringopora sp. A-B, Aulopora sp. A-B, Cladochonus sp. A-B, Syringoalcyon sp., Roemeripora sp., Sinopora sp., Mastopora? sp., Multithecopora hontoriense and Neomultithecopora cantabrica). Through a classical microfacies study, the environments where the auloporids lived have been identified, as well as the growth patterns and the features of sedimentation. Finally, a preliminary biostratigra­phic range chart for the Carboniferous auloporoids from the Iberian Peninsula has been achieved.Los corales aulopóridos son muy comunes en el Paleozoico y muy frecuentes en las bioconstrucciones del Carbonífero de la Península Ibérica. Con el objetivo de analizar la diversidad de estos corales, se ha llevado a cabo un detallado estudio de los morfotipos y especies de aulopóriodos carboníferos que aparecen en la Península Ibérica. Para ello se han estudiado 18 secciones repartidas entre la Zona de Ossa-Morena (Missisípico,) y la Zona Cantábrica (Pennsylvánico), con edades comprendidas entre el Viseense superior y el Kasimovien­se inferior. Así mismo para este estudio se han tenido en cuenta otros aulóporidos ya identificados en trabajos previos. La identificación taxonómica se ha realizado siguiendo los criterios propuestos por Tchudinova (1980) con algunas modificaciones. De esta manera se han identificado dieciocho morfotipos y dos especies que pertenecen a nueve géneros (Multithecopora sp A-H, Syringopora sp A-B, Aulopora sp A-B, Cladochonus sp A-B, Syringoalcyon sp, Roemeripora sp, Sinopora sp, Mastopora? sp, Multithecopora hontoriense and Neo­multithecopora cantabrica).     Indexación: Scopus.The human body is colonized by millions of microorganisms named microbiota that interact with our tissues in a cooperative and non-pathogenic manner. These microorganisms are present in the skin, gut, nasal, oral cavities, and genital tract. In fact, it has been described that the microbiota contributes to balancing the immune system to maintain host homeostasis. The gut is a vital organ where microbiota can influence and determine the function of cells of the immune system and contributes to preserve the wellbeing of the individual. Several articles have emphasized the connection between intestinal autoimmune diseases, such as Crohn's disease with dysbiosis or an imbalance in the microbiota composition in the gut. However, little is known about the role of the microbiota in autoimmune pathologies affecting other tissues than the intestine. This article focuses on what is known about the role that gut microbiota can play in the pathogenesis of non-intestinal autoimmune diseases, such as Grave's diseases, multiple sclerosis, type-1 diabetes, systemic lupus erythematosus, psoriasis, schizophrenia, and autism spectrum disorders.     Goalkeeper-field player in situations of offensive numerical inferiority in handball: Penalty or advantage?

    El objetivo principal fue analizar el resultado final de la acción ofensiva entre los equipos que utilizan, o no, el portero-jugador en situaciones de inferioridad numérica ofensiva en balonmano. Los objetivos secundarios se centran en analizar cómo es la utilización y el comportamiento del portero-jugador y su relación con el resultado final ofensivo y la posterior acción con respecto al contraataque del equipo contrario. Se analizaron las actas oficiales de 86 partidos del 22º Campeonato del Mundo de Balonmano Femenino (Dinamarca 2015) y se realizó el visionado, análisis y registro de las 927 situaciones de inferioridad numérica ofensiva, así como el estudio estadístico pertinente con SPSS v.24. Los resultados demuestran que el uso del recurso táctico o estratégico del portero-jugador favorece la obtención de gol en situaciones de inferioridad numérica ofensiva y no penaliza al equipo que lo utiliza, al no existir diferencia significativa en la probabilidad de recibir gol en contraataqueThe main goal was to analyze the end results in offensive actions between teams that do or do not employ the goalkeeper-field player in situations of offensive numerical inferiority in handball. The secondary objectives focus on analyzing the use and behavior of the goalkeeper-field player, as well as its role in the final offensive result and following actions in terms of the opposing team’s counterattack. 86 official match reports from the 22nd Women's Handball World Championship (Denmark 2015) were analyzed, and the viewing, analysis and registration of the 927 situations of offensive numerical inferiority were carried out, as well as the pertinent statistical study with SPSS v.24. The results show that the tactical or strategic use of the goalkeeper-field player favors goal scoring in situations of offensive numerical inferiority and does not punish the team which employs it, since there’s no significant difference in the probability of conceding a goal in counterattac

    Heme oxygenase-1 as a modulator of intestinal inflammation development and progression

    Indexación: Scopus.Heme Oxygenase 1 (HMOX1) is an enzyme that catalyzes the reaction that degrades the heme group contained in several important proteins, such as hemoglobin, myoglobin, and cytochrome p450. The enzymatic reaction catalyzed by HMOX1 generates Fe2+, biliverdin and CO. It has been shown that HMOX1 activity and the by-product CO can downmodulate the damaging immune response in several models of intestinal inflammation as a result of pharmacological induction of HMOX1 expression and the administration of non-toxic amounts of CO. Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, which includes Crohn's Disease (CD) and Ulcerative Colitis (UC), are one of the most studied ailments associated to HMOX1 effects. However, microbiota imbalances and infections are also important factors influencing the occurrence of acute and chronic intestinal inflammation, where HMOX1 activity may play a major role.     Scanning tunneling spectroscopy of layers of superconducting 2H-TaSe2_\textbf{2}: Evidence for a zero bias anomaly in single layers

    We report a characterization of surfaces of the dichalcogenide TaSe2_2 using scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/S) at 150 mK. When the top layer has the 2H structure and the layer immediately below the 1T structure, we find a singular spatial dependence of the tunneling conductance below 1 K, changing from a zero bias peak on top of Se atoms to a gap in between Se atoms. The zero bias peak is additionally modulated by the commensurate 3a0×3a03a_0 \times 3a_0 charge density wave of 2H-TaSe2_2. Multilayers of 2H-TaSe2_2 show a spatially homogeneous superconducting gap with a critical temperature also of 1 K. We discuss possible origins for the peculiar tunneling conductance in single layers.Comment: 10 pages, 10 figure

    Weak ferromagnetism with very large canting in a chiral lattice: (pyrimidine)2FeCl2

    The transition metal coordination compound (pyrimidine)2FeCl2 crystallizes in a chiral lattice, space group I 4_1 2 2 (or I4_3 2 2). Combined magnetization, Mossbauer spectroscopy and powder neutron diffraction studies reveal that it is a canted antiferromagnet below T_N = 6.4 K with an unusually large canting of the magnetic moments of 14 deg. from their general antiferromagnetic alignment, one of the largest reported to date. This results in weak ferromagnetism with a ferromagnetic component of 1 mu_B. The large canting is due to the interplay between the antiferromagnetic exchange interaction and the local single-ion anisotropy in the chiral lattice. The magnetically ordered structure of (pyrimidine)2FeCl2, however, is not chiral. The implications of these findings for the search of molecule based materials exhibiting chiral magnetic ordering is discussed.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
