Three-Flavour Neutrino-Mixing Implications of the LSND Result
The LSND result is shown to fit into a minimal three-flavour neutrino-mixing
scenario capable of describing all known experimental facts provided the large
Delta M^2 = m_3^2 - m_2^2 \sim m_3^2 - m_1^2 lies in the range 2.5 x 10^{-1} <
Delta M^2 < 3.0 eV^2. In this range the value of P_{\mu\tau} is expected to be
about 5% or larger.Comment: 10 pages, 2 eps figures, LaTeX 2.09, revised for Physics Letters

Ubiquitous Internet in an integrated satellite-terrestrial environment: The SUITED solution
yesThe current Internet architecture appears to
not be particularly suited to addressing the
emerging needs of new classes of users who wish
to gain access to multimedia services made available
by ISPs, regardless of their location, while
in motion and with a guaranteed level of quality.
One of the main objectives of so-called nextgeneration
systems is to overcome the limitations
of today¿s available Internet by adopting an
approach based on the integration of different
mobile and fixed networks. The SUITED project
moves in this direction since it aims at contributing
to the design and deployment of the global
mobile broadband system (GMBS), a unique
satellite/terrestrial infrastructure ensuring
nomadic users access to Internet services with a
negotiated QoS. A description of the main features
of the GMBS architecture, characterized
by the integration of a multisegment access network
with a federated ISP network is given in
this article. The GMBS multimode terminal is
schematically described, and an overview of the
so-called QoS-aware mobility management
scheme, devised for such a heterogeneous scenario,is provided
Effect of task failure on intermuscular coherence measures in synergistic muscles
The term "task failure" describes the point when a person is not able to maintain the level of force required by a task. As task failure approaches, the corticospinal command to the muscles increases to maintain the required level of force in the face of a decreased mechanical efficacy. Nevertheless, most motor tasks require the synergistic recruitment of several muscles. How this recruitment is affected by approaching task failure is still not clear. The increase in the corticospinal drive could be due to an increase in synergistic recruitment or to overlapping commands sent to the muscles individually. Herein, we investigated these possibilities by combining intermuscular coherence and synergy analysis on signals recorded from three muscles of the quadriceps during dynamic leg extension tasks. We employed muscle synergy analysis to investigate changes in the coactivation of the muscles. Three different measures of coherence were used. Pooled coherence was used to estimate the command synchronous to all three muscles, pairwise coherence the command shared across muscle pairs and residual coherence the command peculiar to each couple of muscles. Our analysis highlights an overall decrease in synergistic command at task failure and an intensification of the contribution of the nonsynergistic shared command

for states is sizable, of
order in the branching ratio, but
smaller than experiment. For the
rescattering contributions are negligible, but the channel is well
explained by a intermediate state combined with vector meson

Real life experience of knowledge, attitudes and acceptance rate of covid-19 and influenza vaccine administration in one of the main vaccination hub of sicilian region at the university hospital of palermo, Italy
Introduction: In temperate countries of the southern hemisphere, influenza surveillance showed an increase in influenza circulation in 2022 season, anticipating a peak of influenza cases in the Northern hemisphere during 2022/2023 season. The Italian Health Ministry strongly recommend coadministration of seasonal influenza vaccines with other vaccines, including bivalent COVID-19 vaccines. The Vaccination HUB of University Hospital (UH) of Palermo, since the beginning of the campaign, administered over 90, 000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines and more than 900 influenza vaccines have been co-administered with COVID-19 vaccines in the 2021/2022 season. Materials and methods Data were collected from October to December 2022 at the Vaccination Hub of UH of Palermo, using a self-administered online questionnaire to subjects afferent to the Center, by Google® Forms platform. The research group had access and recorded all data on a password-protected Excel file (ver. 1997–2003). The questionnaire consisting in 15 items, the informative of the study and the consent form was approved by the Ethic Committee of the Palermo’s UH Results: Overall, 904 subjects answered the questionnaire. 74.5% of the respondents were willing to receive the co-administration with the COVID19 and seasonal influenza vaccines. The main reason reported for accepting the coadministration was confidence in the official recommendations (43.5%) whereas 46.6% were not willing to receive the co-administration for fear of side effects. At the multivariable analysis subject with age ≤59 years (AdJOR: 0.48;CI95%:0.31–0.75) and those who received the two vaccines co-administered during the last season (AdJOR: 87.1;CI95%:61.4–463.8) were significantly associated with coadministration during 2022/2023 season. Conclusion: First data obtained from this study show that those who received COVID19 and seasonal influenza vaccination in the same session also in the 2021/2022 season are willing to receive the co-administration of the two vaccinations again for the current season, arguing for the absolute safety and efficacy of the co-administration
Mitogenome and Nuclear-encoded Fungicide-target Genes of Thecaphora frezii - Causal Agent of Peanut Smut
Background: Thecaphora frezii Carranza and Lindquist causes smut disease in peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) resulting in up to 35% yield losses. Fungicides have shown ineffective in controlling the disease; whereas research on the molecular basis of that fungicide resistance has been hindered because of the lack of genetic information about T. frezii. The goal of this work was to provide molecular information about fungicide-target loci in T. frezii, including its mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) and critical nuclear-encoded genes.
Results: Here we report the complete annotated mitogenome of T. frezii, a 123,773 bp molecule containing the standard 14 genes that form part of mitochondrial complexes I, III, IV and V, 22 transfer RNAs, small and large subunits of ribosomal RNA, DNA polymerase, ribonuclease P, GII-reverse transcriptase/maturase, nine hypothetical open-reading frames and homing endonucleases (LAGLIDADG, GIY-YIG, HEG). In addition, we report the full-length cDNA sequence of T. frezii cytochrome b (cob) and cytochrome oxidase 1 (cox1) genes; as well as partial sequences of T. frezii succinate dehydrogenase (sdhb), ergosterol biosynthesis (Erg4), cytochrome P450 (cyp51), and beta tubulin (β-tubulin) genes, which are respective targets of strobilurins, quinone oxidation inhibitors, triazoles and beta-tubulin inhibitor fungicides commonly used in the peanut crop. Translation of cob and sdhb genes in this particular T. frezii isolate suggests potential resistance to strobilurin and carboxamide fungicides.
Conclusion: The mitogenome and nuclear-encoded gene sequences presented here provide the molecular tools to research T. frezii fungicide-target loci
Madodiet: Comparison of dietary habits and lifestyles between residents of madonie mountain area and those of the metropolitan area of palermo
Background: We compared dietary and lifestyle habits in a sample population living in the small cities of the Madonie Mountains (MM), Palermo’s Province, an Italian area characterized by one of the highest prevalence of centenarians and in a sample of residents living in the Metropolitan Area of Palermo (PA) to highlight any difference of public health interest. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted administering an anonymous questionnaire in digital format since August 2022 and still ongoing. The questionnaire includes items which explore socio-demographic features, lifestyle, eating habits and supplement use. A MD adherence score was calculated based on fruit, vegetable, red meat intake, and walking habit. Results: Overall, 749 subjects were enrolled (RR 74%), with an average age of 38.6 years: 526 living in MM and 223 in PA. Only 21% of sample showed good adherence to MD, with young individuals having a statistically significant lower adherence to MD. Wholegrain flours consumption was found to be significantly associated with greater adherence to MD (Adj-OR: 2.04; CI95%:1.41-2.96) Residents in MM showed a significantly higher consumption of fruits (61.2% vs 52% - Adj-OR:1.45; CI95%:1.06-2.00) and vegetables (80.7%vs.50.9% - AdjOR:4.02; CI95%:2.86-5.65), mainly coming from local or homegrown production. Lastly, MM subjects were found to eat red meat mainly from local or household production as comparison with urban residents (Adj-OR:4.77; CI95%:3.32-6.85). Conclusion: Our findings confirmed the central role played in dietary habits by local and household production. Because of important role played by seasonality of fruits and vegetables and local production on MD food pyramid, data collected should encourage public health Authorities to promote proper lifestyle and nutrition also in Metropolitan Areas
