    Determinants of Pediatric Care Utilization

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to understand the determinants of utilization of pediatric care -- care rendered to children by all physicians. Multivariate techniques are employed to examine four measures of pediatric care utilization in a national sample of children between the ages of 1 and 5. These measures are the probability of contacting a physician within the past year, the probability of obtaining a preventive physical examination within the past year, the number of office visits to physicians in private practice by children with positive visits, and the average quality of these visits.

Next generation keyboards: The importance of cognitive compatibility

    Get PDF
The computer keyboard of today is essentially the same as it has been for many years. Few advances have been made in keyboard design even though computer systems in general have made remarkable progress in improvements. This paper discusses the future of keyboards, their competition and compatibility with voice input systems, and possible special-application intelligent keyboards for controlling complex systems

High mobility n-channel organic field-effect transistors based on soluble C60 and C70 fullerene derivatives

We report on n-channel organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) based on the solution processable methanofullerenes [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid ester ([60]PCBM) and [6,6]-phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester ([70]PCBM). Despite the fact that both derivatives form glassy films when processed from solution, their electron mobilities are high and on the order of 0.21 cm2/V s and 0.1 cm2/V s, for [60]PCBM and [70]PCBM, respectively. Although the derived mobility of [60]PCBM is comparable to the best values reported in the literature, the electron mobility of [70]PCBM is the highest value reported to date for any C70 based molecule. We note that this is the only report in which C60 and C70 methanofullerenes exhibit comparable electron mobilities. The present findings could have significant implications in the area of large-area organic electronics and organic photovoltaics where C60 derivatives have so far been the most widely used electron acceptor materials.

Mutació BRAF; Síndrome de Lynch; Inhibidors del punt de control immunològicMutación BRAF; Síndrome de Lynch; Inhibidores de punto de control inmunológicoBRAF mutation; Lynch syndrome; Immune checkpoint inhibitorsBackground We pooled data from 2 cohorts of immune checkpoint inhibitors-treated microsatellite instability-high/mismatch repair-deficient (MSI/dMMR) metastatic colorectal cancer patients to evaluate the prognostic value of RAS/BRAFV600E mutations and Lynch syndrome (LS). Patients and Methods Patients were defined as LS-linked if germline mutation was detected and as sporadic if loss of MLH1/PMS2 expression with BRAFV600E mutation and/or MLH1 promoter hypermethylation, or biallelic somatic MMR genes mutations were found. Progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were adjusted on prognostic modifiers selected on unadjusted analysis (P < .2) if limited number of events. Results Of 466 included patients, 305 (65.4%) and 161 (34.5%) received, respectively, anti-PD1 alone and anti-PD1+anti-CTLA4 in the total population, 111 (24.0%) were treated in first-line; 129 (28.8%) were BRAFV600E-mutated and 153 (32.8%) RAS-mutated. Median follow-up was 20.9 months. In adjusted analysis of the whole population (PFS/OS events = 186/133), no associations with PFS and OS were observed for BRAFV600E-mutated (PFS HR= 1.20, P = .372; OS HR = 1.06, P = .811) and RAS-mutated patients (PFS HR = 0.93, P = .712, OS HR = 0.75, P = .202). In adjusted analysis in the Lynch/sporadic status-assigned population (n = 242; PFS/OS events = 80/54), LS-liked patients had an improved PFS compared to sporadic cases (HR = 0.49, P = .036). The adjusted HR for OS was 0.56 with no significance (P = .143). No adjustment on BRAFV600E mutation was done due to collinearity. Conclusion In this cohort, RAS/BRAFV600E mutations were not associated with survival while LS conferred an improved PFS.This research did not receive any specific grant from funding of industry; partially funded by IOVIRCCS 5x1000 Grant, Missoni Project, code BIGID219ZAGO, and by Association de Recherche en Oncologie Saint-Antoine (AROSAT)

Non-hyperbolic ergodic measures and horseshoes in partially hyperbolic homoclinic classes

We study a rich family of robustly non-hyperbolic transitive diffeomorphisms and we show that each ergodic measure is approached by hyperbolic sets in weak∗*-topology and in entropy. For hyperbolic ergodic measures, it is a classical result of A. Katok. The novelty here is to deal with non-hyperbolic ergodic measures.Comment: 25 pages and 1 figur

Assessment of dry-aged beef from commercial aging locations across the United States

Modern dry-aging is a culinary-inspired practice that involves storing meat at refrigerated temperatures without protective packaging. The dry-aging process has been observed to create unique flavors. The objective of the current study was to survey commercial dry-aging facility environments and observe palatability differences related to consumer acceptance. Seventy-two bone-in beef strip loins (Institutional Meat Purchase Specification #175) were acquired. Strip loins were randomly assigned to each of ten commercial dry-aging facilities. Additionally, a set of strip loins were wet-aged at the University of Idaho meat laboratory. Strip loins were shipped overnight to respective aging locations and dry-aged for 45-days then returned overnight to the University of Idaho meat laboratory. Strip loins were fabricated into steaks, vacuum packaged, and then frozen until further analyzed. Commercial dry-aging facility cooler conditions were observed to be different (P 0.05) among treatment-locations. Consumer taste panels indicated a difference (P < 0.01) in acceptability (6.27–7.24), tenderness (6.65–7.54), and flavor (5.58–6.79) based on aging treatment-location. Overall, the findings indicate that conditions within individual dry-aging facilities aid in producing unique dry-aged beef flavors.Funded by the Idaho Beef Council.
