Positivity results for the Hecke algebras of non-crystallographic finite Coxeter groups
This paper is a report on a computer check of some positivity properties of
the Hecke algebra in type H4, including the non-negativity of the coefficients
of the structure constants in the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis. This answers a
long-standing question of Lusztig's. The same algorithm, carried out by hand,
also allows us to deal with the case of dihedral Coxeter groups.Comment: septembre 2005; 13 pages; cet article s'accompagne d'un logicie
Lagrangian transport of moisture in the atmosphere and floating plastic in the ocean
This thesis focuses on the study of Lagrangian transport in
different types of fluids. The aim of this work is to explore
interactions between particles and fluids in two different areas
of science; oceanography and meteorology. Different
practical applications, such as the movement of plastics in the
ocean and the transport of moisture in the atmosphere, will
be examined in both study areas. To do this, we will explore the
use of numerical Lagrangian models to validate results
and test new hypotheses
Professional Development Experiences of Southern California Elementary School Teachers
Many researchers have concluded that teachers\u27 frustration with the lack of quality teacher professional development can be addressed by acknowledging teachers\u27 voices and involving them in the planning and design of their professional development. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore 3rd through 5th grade elementary teachers\u27 experiences with professional development in their schools or in their district in Southern California. Hargreaves and Fullan\u27s concept of professional capital and Shulman\u27s construct of knowledge growth in teaching provided the conceptual framework for this study. The research questions that framed the interview protocol for this study focused on teachers\u27 experiences and ideas for professional development. Open coding of interviews with 8 teachers determined common words, phrases, or sentences and constant comparison determined emergent themes. Findings that emerged were that district professional development lacked continuity and was experienced as overwhelming, ineffective, inadequate, and often insufficient. Teachers perceived that their needs were seldom met and their involvement in the planning and design of professional development was limited. The elementary teachers desire reflective processing time to become masters of their craft, as well as active involvement in planning and designing their professional development. This study may contribute to positive social change by providing insight to professional development designers that teachers desire involvement in planning training with more engagement and higher levels of learning which can contribute to improved student outcomes. Collaboration such as that found in professional learning communities could accomplish this goal

A guide to motivating students to twist to better spelling
Students learn and retain more when they enjoy the process or avenue of learning. Students have fun learning to spell when visual, auditory, and hands-on learning are included in the process. In addition, the intervention project can be used to support and assist second language learners. The benefits from this intervention project will not only strengthen students\u27 phonemic and spelling foundation, but will also enhance their reading comprehension and writing effectiveness
Deforming Maps for Lie Group Covariant Creation and Annihilation Operators
Any deformation of a Weyl or Clifford algebra A can be realized through a
`deforming map', i.e. a formal change of generators in A. This is true in
particular if A is covariant under a Lie algebra g and its deformation is
induced by some triangular deformation of the Hopf algebra . We
propose a systematic method to construct all the corresponding deforming maps,
together with the corresponding realizations of the action of . The
method is then generalized and explicitly applied to the case that is
the quantum group . A preliminary study of the status of deforming
maps at the representation level shows in particular that `deformed' Fock
representations induced by a compact can be interpreted as standard
`undeformed' Fock representations describing particles with ordinary Bose or
Fermi statistics.Comment: Latex file, 26 pages, no figures. Extended changes. Final Version to

Schwartz functions on Nash manifolds
In this paper we extend the notions of Schwartz functions, tempered functions
and generalized Schwartz functions to Nash (i.e. smooth semi-algebraic)
manifolds. We reprove for this case classically known properties of Schwartz
functions on and build some additional tools which are important in
representation theory.Comment: 35 pages, LaTex. v3:minor changes + reference to results of duClou
Développement de PCRs multiplexes pour le diagnostic : microarrays analytiques
The work reported in this thesis follows the one undertaken by Ms LE GOFF. It is focused on HIFI technology, which is patented and developed during her thesis. The first part of this work concerns the HIFI Blood 96™ test, and particularly the improvements and developments adduced to the test to make it a real diagnostic tool, multiparametric and high-throughput which can be implemented in blood banks in order to constitute negative antigen inventories, thus contributing to improve blood safety. It allows to characterize 96 samples on 15 polymorphisms (divided in two panels) associated to blood group systems in approximately 4.5 hours. A mesoscale validation study has been conducted on 583 samples for panel 1 and 190 samples for panel 2. The second part of this work describes the adaptation of HIFI technology applied to diagnosis of respiratory tract infections, with the development of another platform, ReSynPlex, in partnership with 3 research teams in GrenobleLes travaux présentés dans cette thèse font suite à celle de Melle LE GOFF.
