In two decades, a process of democratization occurred in Latin America, leading tonew public policies that have helped reduce inequality and poverty. Localised damage model applied to the analysis of masonry structures

La simulación de fisuras localizadas en materiales cuasifrágiles mediante la mecánica computacional es un tema de investigación que aún se encuentra abierto. En este trabajo se plantea un modelo continuo para estudiar la fisuración en estructuras de obra de fábrica. El modelo propuesto, llamado modelo de daño localizado, combina el modelo de daño distribuido tracción/compresión, ampliamente aplicado en el estudio del hormigón, con un algoritmo de rastreo de fisuras. La capacidad del modelo se hace patente al aplicarlo al estudio de un arco semicircular de obra de fábrica con carga asimétrica, cuyos resultados son mucho más realistas que los que se obtienen con el modelo de daño distribuido en su forma original.Peer Reviewe

Brasil ”“ México: trayectorias estructurales diferenciadas

In the last decade Brazil growth has allowed the country to become the sixth economy in the world, while Mexico has lagged behind even when their economies paired in size at the middle of the XXIst century first decade. Roots of this gap can be found in government policies that have strengthened domestic market in Brazil, while Mexico quest for stability and globalization has hindered the potential of domestic market and reduced the effect of global value chains. Comparative analysis of these Latin American economies confirms the theoretical approach of development theory, that strengthening domestic market is the best way to approach economies of scale in the global economy.Na última década, o crescimento permitiu ao Brasil se tornar a sexta economia do mundo, enquanto o México ficou para trás, mesmo que, em meados da primeira década do século XXI, as duas economias estivessem emparelhadas. As raízes dessa diferença podem ser encontradas nas políticas governamentais que no Brasil fortaleceram mercado interno, enquanto o México buscou por estabilidade e a globalização dificultou o potencial do mercado interno e reduziu o efeito das cadeias de valor globais. A análise comparativa das economias latino-americanas confirma a abordagem teórica da teoria do desenvolvimento, que o fortalecimento do mercado interno é a melhor maneira de aproximar economias de escala na economia global.Na última década, o crescimento permitiu ao Brasil se tornar a sexta economia do mundo, enquanto o México ficou para trás, mesmo que, em meados da primeira década do século XXI, as duas economias estivessem emparelhadas. DNA extraction from leaves of Vaccinium cylindraceum SMITH (Ericaceae). The use of RAPD markers to detect genetic variation. Preliminary results.

Vaccinium cylindraceum Smith is an endemic Ericaceae from Azores archipelago. This species is being produced by seed germination, micropropagation and stem cuttings. The produced plants are then reintroduced in their natural but disturbed environment and used to repopulate protected areas meanwhile infested with more or less invasive exotic flora. In order to protect the genetic variability within the species, a study of genetic variation between and within populations from different islands was started. DNA extraction was achieved on fresh, dried and criopreserved leaves and the First results using the PCR technique are also presented
