    Subjectivity as a theoretical reflection point to think politics

    Cuando se reflexiona sobre lo político desde las ciencias sociales, y principalmente desde la ciencia política, se parte de una tradición teórica que lo asocia con las formas institucionales de negociar los asuntos públicos, este trabajo busca traer a discusión nuevos conceptos y formas de estudiar fenómenos sociales a partir de la subjetividad, entendiendo esta como una toma de consciencia sobre ciertas condiciones de vida y los esfuerzos por crear vínculos de colectividad para reflexionarlas y modificarlas, haciendo una revisión crítica sobre ciertos abordajes teóricos y metodológicos para estudiar lo político más allá de los conceptos clásicos sobre los estudios de participación, principalmente en la discusión sobre la ciudadanía y la subjetividad política. Para ampliar la discusión, se lleva esta propuesta a un trabajo de investigación sobre formas de organización política en zonas de exclusión social en Ciudad Juárez, en la frontera norte de MéxicoWhen we think about politics from social science, and mainly from political science, we part from a theoretical tradition that associates politics to institutional forms to solve public affairs, this paper seeks to bring new concepts and ways to study social phenomena using the concept of subjectivity, understanding this as a self consciousness about some life conditions and the efforts to build community bonds, reflecting and modifying this conditions, making a critical revision of some theoretical and methodological approaches to study politics beyond classic concepts as participation, mainly in the discussion of concepts as citizenship and political subjectivity. To go further this discussion, this proposal leads to a research in Ciudad Juarez, in the north border of Mexico, to look for political organizations in areas of social exclusion

    Approaches to forms of organization and political actions in spaces of social exclusion from a perspective of political anthropology: analysis of a polygon on the southeast of Ciudad Juarez, in the northern border of Mexico

      Este trabajo busca identificar las formas de asociación y acción políticas de poblaciones en espacios de exclu-sión social, haciendo un acercamiento desde la antropología política para identificar cómo estas, más allá de ser apolíticas o despolitizadas por no pasar por las arenas institucionales, desarrollan una práctica política informal, subyacente a las instituciones burocráticas. Para esto se trabajó con siete grupos de pobladores en un polígono al suroriente de Ciudad Juárez, en la frontera norte de México, asentados en zonas habitacionales cerradas con vivienda tipo interés social alejadas de la mancha urbana, la mayoría familias jóvenes empleadas en la industria maquiladora, usando técnicas como la entrevista, la entrevista a profundidad y la etnografía. Se encontró que estas poblaciones desarrollan una forma de política que no pasa por los discursos o legitimidades del Estado, sino que crean un sistema subyacente de prácticas, formas de organización, vinculación y gestión de recursos para satisfacer necesidades colectivas de manera personalizada e informal. Estos hallazgos no son compartidos por los estudios clásicos de la ciencia política, los cuales se han enfocado en aquellas prácticas que pasan por las arenas institucio-nales, por lo que se concluye con un giro teórico hacia la antropología política.  This study identify the forms of political associations and action of population in places of social exclusion from the perspective of the political anthropology, concluding that this population, more than being apolitical or de-politicized for not passing through the institutional arenas, develop an informal political practice underlying of bureaucratic institutions. To achieve this, we worked with seven groups of people in a polygon on the southeast of Ciudad Juarez, in the northern border of Mexico, settled in closed residential areas with small houses made by the government away from the city, where young and workers of the maquiladora industry families live, and using techniques as interview, in depth-interview and ethnography. It was found that these populations develop a form of doing politics that does not pass through the State legitimization and discourses, but rather create an underground system of negotiations, organizations and practices to manage collective services and needs in a personal and informal way. These fi ndings are not shared by the classical political science, which have focused on those practices that pass through the institutional arenas, so it concludes with a theoretical turn into political anthropology

Apart of their possibilities for controlled chemistry in nano- fluidics devices new phenomena induced by confinement are also expected, such as liquid like ordered structures or exotic crystalline phases. Here, we present a series of neutron diffraction measurements (instrument D20, ILL, Grenoble) of molecular deuterium confined within Multiple Wall Carbon Nanotubes (MWCTNs). Bulk liquid D2 at its vapour pressure crystallises in an hcp structure at ~18.7 K. At low uptakes we have found a clear depression of the solidification temperature down to ~13.25 K. Interestingly, at the lowest uptake the diffraction pattern is consistent with the minimal fcc lattice compatible with a cylindrical symmetry.Peer Reviewe

    Chemical-proteomics Identify Peroxiredoxin-1 as an Actionable Target in Triple-negative Breast Cancer

    Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is difficult to treat; therefore, the development of drugs directed against its oncogenic vulnerabilities is a desirable goal. Herein, we report the antitumor effects of CM728, a novel quinone-fused oxazepine, against this malignancy. CM728 potently inhibited TNBC cell viability and decreased the growth of MDA-MB-231-induced orthotopic tumors. Furthermore, CM728 exerted a strong synergistic antiproliferative effect with docetaxel in vitro and this combination was more effective than the individual treatments in vivo. Chemical proteomic approaches revealed that CM728 bound to peroxiredoxin-1 (Prdx1), thereby inducing its oxidation. Molecular docking corroborated these findings. CM728 induced oxidative stress and a multi-signal response, including JNK/p38 MAPK activation and STAT3 inhibition. Interestingly, Prdx1 downregulation mimicked these effects. Finally, CM728 led to DNA damage, cell cycle blockage at the S and G2/M phases, and the activation of caspase-dependent apoptosis. Taken together, our results identify a novel compound with antitumoral properties against TNBC. In addition, we describe the mechanism of action of this drug and provide a rationale for the use of Prdx1 inhibitors, such as CM728, alone or in combination with other drugs, for the treatment of TNBC.This project was supported by Centro Atlántico del Medicamento S.A.     CUL3BPM E3 ubiquitin ligases regulate MYC2, MYC3, and MYC4 stability and JA responses

    The jasmonate (JA)-pathway regulators MYC2, MYC3, and MYC4 are central nodes in plant signaling networks integrating environmental and developmental signals to fine-tune JA defenses and plant growth. Continuous activation of MYC activity is potentially lethal. Hence, MYCs need to be tightly regulated in order to optimize plant fitness. Among the increasing number of mechanisms regulating MYC activity, protein stability is arising as a major player. However, how the levels of MYC proteins are modulated is still poorly understood. Here, we report that MYC2, MYC3, and MYC4 are targets of BPM (BTB/POZ-MATH) proteins, which act as substrate adaptors of CUL3-based E3 ubiquitin ligases. Reduction of function of CUL3BPM in amiR-bpm lines, bpm235 triple mutants, and cul3ab double mutants enhances MYC2 and MYC3 stability and accumulation and potentiates plant responses to JA such as root-growth inhibition and MYC-regulated gene expression. Moreover, MYC3 polyubiquitination levels are reduced in amiR-bpm lines. BPM3 protein is stabilized by JA, suggesting a negative feedback regulatory mechanism to control MYC activity, avoiding harmful runaway responses.     Targeted temperature management (TTM) through induced hypothermia (between 32-36 C) is currently regarded as a first-line treatment during the management of post-cardiac arrest patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The aim of TTM is to afford neuroprotection and reduce secondary neurological damage caused by anoxia. Despite the large body of evidence on its benefits, the TTM is still little used in Spain. There are controversial issues referred to its implementation, such as the optimal target body temperature, timing, duration and the rewarming process. The present study reviews the best available scientific evidence and the current recommendations contained in the international guidelines. In addition, the study focuses on the practical implementation of TTM in post-cardiac arrest patients in general and cardiological ICUs, with a discussion of the implementation strategies, protocols, management of complications and assessment of the neurological prognosis. oActualmente, el control estricto de temperatura mediante hipotermia inducida (entre 32 y 36 oC) se considera un tratamiento de primera línea en el manejo de pacientes con parada cardiaca recuperada que ingresan en Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos.     CIBERER : Spanish national network for research on rare diseases: A highly productive collaborative initiative

This innovative research structure comprises 11 different specific areas dedicated to the main public health priorities in the National Health System. CIBERER, the thematic area of CIBER focused on rare diseases (RDs) currently consists of 75 research groups belonging to universities, research centers, and hospitals of the entire country. CIBERER's mission is to be a center prioritizing and favoring collaboration and cooperation between biomedical and clinical research groups, with special emphasis on the aspects of genetic, molecular, biochemical, and cellular research of RDs. This research is the basis for providing new tools for the diagnosis and therapy of low-prevalence diseases, in line with the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC) objectives, thus favoring translational research between the scientific environment of the laboratory and the clinical setting of health centers. In this article, we intend to review CIBERER's 15-year journey and summarize the main results obtained in terms of internationalization, scientific production, contributions toward the discovery of new therapies and novel genes associated to diseases, cooperation with patients' associations and many other topics related to RD research
