Triple-coincidence with automatic chance coincidence correction
The chance coincidences in a triple-coincidence circuit are of two types- -partially correlated and entirely uncorrelated. Their relative importance depends on source strength and source and detector geometry so that the total chance correction cannot, in general, be calculated. The system described makes use of several delays and straightforward integrated circuit logic to provide independent evaluation of the two components of the chance coincidence rate. (auth

Linear low power preamplifier for the atlas liquid argon em calorimeter
In a previous paper, it was shown that, for shaping times of the order of the transmission line delay, a remote, external preamplifier could perform as well as one connected directly to a liquid argon calorimeter. Here we describe an improved circuit configuration where, by attributing the functions of low noise and high dynamic range to two different transistors, the linearity can be improved and the noise can be decreased while reducing the power dissipation by a factor of three (to about 40 mW). The gain (i.e., the transresistance) and the input impedance can be chosen independently without changing the power supply voltages and power dissipation
Boundary element methods in elastography: a first explorative study

to find paper and front matter etc.Next to Magnet Resonance Elastography and Ultrasound Elastography, Digital Image Elasto-Tomography (DIET) is a new imaging-technique, using only motion data available on the boundary, to reconstruct mechanical material parameters, i.e. the interior sti.ness of a domain, in order to diagnose tissue related disease such as breast cancer. Where classically Finite Element Methods have been employed to solve this inverse problem, this paper explores a new approach to the reconstruction of mechanical material properties of tissue and tissue defects by the use of Boundary Element Methods (BEM). Using the Boundary Integral Equations for Linear Elasticity in two dimensions within a Conjugate Gradients based inverse solver, material properties of healthy and malicious tissue could be determined from displacement data on the boundary. First simulation results are presented
Popular attitudes to memory, the body, and social identity : the rise of external commemoration in Britain, Ireland, and New England
A comparative analysis of samples of external memorials from burial grounds in Britain, Ireland and New England reveals a widespread pattern of change in monument style and content, and exponential growth in the number of permanent memorials from the 18th century onwards. Although manifested in regionally distinctive styles on which most academic attention has so far been directed, the expansion reflects global changes in social relationships and concepts of memory and the body. An archaeological perspective reveals the importance of external memorials in articulating these changing attitudes in a world of increasing material consumption
Attribute-Based Signatures
We introduce Attribute-Based Signatures (ABS), a versatile primitive that allows a party to sign a message with fine-grained control over identifying information. In ABS, a signer, who possesses a set of attributes from the authority, can sign a message with a predicate that is satisfied by his attributes. The signature reveals no more than the fact that a single user with some set of attributes satisfying the predicate has attested to the message. In particular, the signature hides the attributes used to satisfy the predicate and any identifying information about the signer (that could link multiple signatures as being from the same signer). Furthermore, users cannot collude to pool their attributes together. We give a general framework for constructing ABS schemes, then show several practical instantia-tions based on groups with bilinear pairing operations, under standard assumptions. We describe several practical problems that motivated this work, and how ABS can be used to solve them
A new species of Dichaea (Orchidaceae) for northern Brazil
