Measurements with a probe microphone provide an efficient and effective method in the final verification of the hearing aid fitting, since they allow the study of the electroacoustic response with the adapted mould and the hearing aid in real ear functioning. The use of these measures takes into account the individual differences of each patient and the peculiarities of a particular hearing aid and ear mould. This type of electroacoustic measurements can be carried out in all types of hearing aids, including digital ones.
Quantum Criticality and Superconductivity in Quasi-Two-Dimensional Dirac Electronic Systems
We present a theory describing the superconducting (SC) interaction of Dirac
electrons in a quasi-two-dimensional system consisting of a stack of N planes.
The occurrence of a SC phase is investigated both at T=0 and T\neq 0, in the
case of a local interaction, when the theory must be renormalized and also in
the situation where a natural physical cutoff is present in the system. In both
cases, at T=0, we find a quantum phase transition connecting the normal and SC
phases at a certain critical coupling. The phase structure is shown to be
robust against quantum fluctuations. The SC gap is determined for T=0 and T\neq
0, both with and without a physical cutoff and the interplay between the gap
and the SC order parameter is discussed. Our theory qualitatively reproduces
the SC phase transition occurring in the underdoped regime of the high-Tc
cuprates. This fact points to the possible relevance of Dirac electrons in the
mechanism of high-Tc superconductivity.Comment: To be published in Nuclear Physics, Section B. 24 pages, 4 figure
Two-Timescale Learning Using Idiotypic Behaviour Mediation For A Navigating Mobile Robot
A combined Short-Term Learning (STL) and Long-Term Learning (LTL) approach to
solving mobile-robot navigation problems is presented and tested in both the
real and virtual domains. The LTL phase consists of rapid simulations that use
a Genetic Algorithm to derive diverse sets of behaviours, encoded as variable
sets of attributes, and the STL phase is an idiotypic Artificial Immune System.
Results from the LTL phase show that sets of behaviours develop very rapidly,
and significantly greater diversity is obtained when multiple autonomous
populations are used, rather than a single one. The architecture is assessed
under various scenarios, including removal of the LTL phase and switching off
the idiotypic mechanism in the STL phase. The comparisons provide substantial
evidence that the best option is the inclusion of both the LTL phase and the
idiotypic system. In addition, this paper shows that structurally different
environments can be used for the two phases without compromising
transferability.Comment: 40 pages, 12 tables, Journal of Applied Soft Computin
Las Funciones Auditivas Centrales
Central Auditory Processing Disorders (CAPD) result from a deficit in sensory processing that affects listening, speech understanding, and learning. These deficits are the product of the inability or lack of ability to attend, discriminate, recognize or understand information of auditory origin. The study of central auditory functions is complex since it does not constitute a unitary entity attributable to a single nosological category. The deficits observed in the processing of auditory information at the central level can be expressed in very different ways and respond to multiple etiologies. The study of hearing as a central phenomenon implies an approach from a functional perspective that requires an approach to hearing as a process and extensive knowledge about the functional anatomical correspondences of hearing. Audiological evaluation of these disorders includes the use of psychoacoustic and electrophysiological tests selected according to the patient's medical history. The proposed interventions for patients diagnosed with CAPD are based on the use of central resources in the improvement of linguistic and cognitive abilities, development of auditory-linguistic skills, development of metalanguage, use of compensatory strategies, and development of listening and metacognition strategies.
Magnetic and Luminescence Properties of 8-Coordinated Pyridyl Adducts of Samarium(III) Complexes Containing 4,4,4-Trifluoro-1-(naphthalen-2-yl)-1,3-butanedionate
A novel series of polypyridyl adducts, [Sm(ntfa)3(NN)] (2-4), with ntfa = 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-(naphthalen-2-yl)-1,3-butanedionate, NN = 2,2′-bipyridine (bipy), 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine (4,4′-Me2bipy), and 5,5′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine (5,5′-Me2bipy) were synthesized from the precursor complex [Sm(ntfa)3(MeOH)2] (1) and the corresponding pyridyl ligands. Single X-ray crystallography showed that the complexes displayed 8-coordinated geometry. The solid pyridyl adducts 2-4 exhibited emission of luminescence in the NIR and visible regions with close quantum yields (QY = 0.20-0.25%). The magnetic data of 1-4 showed larger values than those expected for magnetically noncoupled Sm(III) complexes in the 6H5/2 ground state, with no saturation on the applied high magnetic field static at a temperature of 2 K
Magnetic field-induced insulating behavior in highly oriented pyrolitic graphite
We propose an explanation for the apparent semimetal-insulator transition
observed in highly oriented pyrolitic graphite in the presence of magnetic
field perpendicular to the layers. We show that the magnetic field opens an
excitonic gap in the linear spectrum of the Coulomb interacting quasiparticles,
in a close analogy with the phenomenon of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking in
the relativistic theories of the 2+1-dimensional Dirac fermions. Our
strong-coupling appoach allows for a non-perturbative description of the
corresponding critical behavior
GuÃa de Práctica ClÃnica de AudiometrÃa Tonal por VÃa Aérea y Ósea con y sin Enmascaramiento
The purpose of this document is to define a standardized method, providing useful and necessary recommendations, to effectively and correctly perform manual Liminal Tonal Audiometry (ATL). This guide reflects the recommended procedure for airway and bone conduction audiometry, with and without masking and in most audiological settings, for both adults and older children. The proposed method is not appropriate for young children, people with learning disabilities and other special situations that require some modifications to obtain reliable results. Such situations are not the subject of this document. Nor does it cover other procedures such as high frequency audiometry (above 8000 Hz), audiometric screening, free-field audiometry or speech audiometry. Likewise, this guide is not intended to instruct on the interpretation of the test results, an act that must be carried out by a qualified professional.Note: This document is owned by the Asociación Española de AudiologÃa. Magnetic and Luminescence Properties of 8-Coordinate Holmium(III) Complexes Containing 4,4,4-Trifluoro-1-Phenyl and 1-(Naphthalen-2-yl)-1,3-Butanedionates.
A new series of mononuclear Ho3+ complexes derived from the β-diketonate anions: 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-phenyl-1,3-butanedioneate (btfa−) and 4,4,4-trifuoro-1-(naphthalen-2-yl)-1,3-butanedionate (ntfa−) have been synthesized, [Ho(btfa)3(H2O)2] (1a), [Ho(ntfa)3(MeOH)2] (1b), (1), [Ho(btfa)3(phen)] (2), [Ho(btfa)3(bipy)] (3), [Ho(btfa)3(di-tbubipy)] (4), [Ho(ntfa)3(Me2bipy)] (5), and [Ho(ntfa)3(bipy)] (6), where phen is 1,10-phenantroline, bipy is 2,2′-bipyridyl, di-tbubipy is 4,4′-di-tert-butyl-2,2′-bipyridyl, and Me2bipy is 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridyl. These compounds have been characterized by elemental microanalysis and infrared spectroscopy as well as single-crystal X-ray difraction for 2-6. The central Ho3+ ions in these compounds display coordination number 8. The luminescence-emission properties of the pyridyl adducts 2-6 display a strong characteristic band in the visible region at 661 nm and a series of bands in the NIR region (excitation wavelengths (λex) of 367 nm for 2-4 and 380 nm for 5 and 6). The magnetic properties of the complexes revealed magnetically uncoupled Ho3+ compounds with no field-induced, single-molecule magnet (SMMs)
This article is the first in a series of studies aimed at describing the characteristics of the Auditory-Evoked Brainstem Responses of the (ABR) in both normal hearing and hard of hearing subjects. In interpreting these electrophysiological recordings, it is necessary to know the normality values of the latency and amplitude of the main components and their relationship with the different intensities, as well as the values of the interwave intervals and the possible interaural differences. These normality values vary depending on multiple factors such as gender, age, stimulation and recording parameters or the conditions in which the ABR are carried out. In this first work, the latency normality values of the components of the ABR are described using the stimulation and recording parameters of our laboratory in a sample of normal hearing adult subjects.
