This work presents an analysis of epistemological logics of Physics knowledge as it is presented in three Argentine textbooks for high school students. Publishing companies and their textbooks as active agents construct not neutral notions about the education object that show operations of selection and resignificance of Physics contents. The statements on the selected textbooks that brings over the epistemology of Science and of Physics were analyzed in order to guess relations and social valuations that they promote between the subjects and the discipline. The above mentioned relations and valuations form part of what Basil Bernstein names regulatory discourse. It is the central point for which they take place and arrange the knowledge to be taught, in this case, Physics knowledge. We could observe that in two cases (textbooks) scientific conceptions near to the positivism and to the logical positivism are promoted and that reference to epistemological theories appears fragmented and out of context. In other case a more complex view of the scientific field and the Physical theories is proposed, while there are references to the science as a social collective institutionalized practice

Digitalization of relational space in the service triangle: The case study of retail banking

IntroductionThe article aims to shed light on the process of shaping the relational space of work in the service triangle through the progressive digitalization of work in retail banking industry. It addresses the following research question: how do technological shifts affect the relationships and interactions (a) between employees and supervisors, and (b) between employees and customers? Through a close examination of the redesign of the interpersonal relationships from the subjective viewpoint of front-line workers across these two levels, the paper contributes to advancing the understanding of the impact of technologies on surveillance practices, work identity and professional ethics in a key working sector with regard to digitalization and changes in professional requirements.MethodsThe question is addressed through a qualitative case study of retail banking in Italy. In the (retail) banking sector, the redesign of the relations between supply and demand for services is more sensitive to the changes afforded by digitalization and learning algorithms. The study was conducted with the involvement of workers and trade unionists, with whom we embarked on a constant work of re-articulation through data collection, analysis, and conceptualization. We collected a multiplicity of data for triangulation: interviews, focus groups, documents, and ethnographic notes.ResultsData analysis shows how work processes and interpersonal relationships start to be redesigned across the two levels. At (a) level, two main aspects are found: the measurement of individual performance within the logic of quantification, which reduces employees to a set of measured dimensions, pushing workers into conditions of stress and competition; new surveillance practices and forms of organizational control enabled by technologies and learning algorithms. At (b) level, from being an expert with specific knowledge in the financial sector the bank employee turns into a kind of seller of any product that the algorithm decides to sell, thus ignoring the value of situated experience held by embedded, embodied social actors. Moreover, algorithms enter jurisdictional spaces traditionally controlled by knowledge workers and produce unknown outcomes concerning to whom to sell which products that cannot be clearly understood by workers.DiscussionTechnology contributes to engendering complex identity constructions to maintain, protect, and revise professional identity

Plant genomes encode the largest families of MAPKs in all eukaryotes, with 20 members in Arabidopsis thaliana. With a few exceptions, however, downstream targets have remained undiscovered. Here, we present a systematic screen for Arabidopsis MAPK substrates. Potential MAPK targets were selected on the basis of previously identified in vivo phosphorylation sites that match a MAPK motif. Eight candidates were purified and tested in in vitro kinase assays for phosphorylation by MPK3, -4, -6. These MAPKs clearly differed in their specificity towards these substrates. Phosphorylation sites were mapped by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS/MS) in phosphoglucose isomerase 1 (PGI1), the putative Golgi SNARE protein GOS12, the mechanosensitive ion channel MSL9, the histone deacetylase HDT2/HD2B and phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate kinase 4ß1 (PI-4Kß1). This analysis showed that MAPKs phosphorylate multiple residues in each substrate. Moreover, nearly all in vivo sites were phosphorylated in vitro by MAPKs, suggesting that these candidates could be in vivo targets. The phosphosite mapping and subsequent mutagenesis showed that several candidates were phosphorylated on multiple residues. The use of a fluorescent protein reporter showed that a phosphorylation site mutant of HDT2 excludes a subpool of the protein from the nucleolus. Moreover, the use of phosphosite mutants of GOS12 showed that phosphorylation of GOS12 likely mediates Golgi localization and that GOS12 is involved in maintaining Golgi morphology. Treatment of protoplasts with flg22 caused relocalization of GOS12 from the nucleus and cytosol to the Golgi, similar to the phosphomimicking mutant. This selective MS-based approach to connect MAPK isoforms with these MAPK substrates revealed a potential MAPK network regulating vesicular trafficking and histone deacetilation in plants

Perceptions of students after implementing peer instruction in an introductory physics course

In the present work we carried out a qualitative educational research to assess the perceptions of a group of students that attended (weekly and non-mandatory) complementary classes of a physics course during 2017. In these classes the teaching method called peer instruction (PI) was implemented, which involves collaborative learning among students. From the students? responses to a simple questionnaire we assessed some basic aspects of these classes from which we can conclude that, in the first place, students considered that PI had positively influenced their comprehension of physical concepts and that, secondly, they positively valued the activities performed and the dynamics of these classes. These results, which are part of a series of previous works that have been published elsewhere, are relevant in a context were active and collaborative learning strategies are practically non-existent and push us to continue and broaden the implementation of this and other active learning methods in physics courses.Fil: Budini, Nicolas. Wrote in 1933, the play "O Rei da Vela", from Oswald de Andrade, wins the stage three decades later, through the Oficina Theater and it works like a background to show elements and common practices in the brazilian society. Through presentation and analysis of elements from the creation of the work, talking to the context of repression and authoritarian speeches that were represented in the play, it is introduced the antidemocratic and nefarious scenario of censorship and exploration that existed in the period of civil - military dictatorship instituted from the coup in 1964, especially, in the cultural and artistic environment. Therefore, intends to understand the context and imaginary of society of the time, permeating moral values that served as an incentive for search for legitimation of atrocities committed by military governments under pretext of maintenance of “sacred” institutions and of preservation of the country in the face of communist threat.
