This process proceeds under mild conditions with good yields, completed Z/E selectivity and excellent enantioselectivities. Moreover, easy derivatizations of the final products led to important building blocks of organic synthesis such as 1,3-aminoalcohols and Lewis base catalystsFinancial support from the Spanish Government (CTQ2015-64561-R), the European Research Council (ERC-CG, contract number: 647550), is also gratefully acknowledge

Comorbilidad entre trastornos de conducta y depresión mayor en la adolescencia: prevalencia, teorías explicativas y estatus nosológico

    Get PDF
This theoretical study examines the main findings and researches regarding the comorbidity between conduct disorder and major depression in adolescence. On the one hand, it is argued that high prevalence of comorbidity imply common risk factors (biological, cognitive- emotional and socio-cultural) and a causal relationship between these mental illness, usually conduct disorder preceding major depression. On the other hand, independent nosological status of this comorbidity» is advocated on the basis of several external criteria (e.g. response to treatment, course into adulthood and psychopathological profile), which distinguish this mixed clinical entity from conduct disorder and major depression, especially the latter category. These findings are discussed concerning the classification of «depressive conduct disorder» within current diagnosis reference manuals

    Get PDF
This work aimed to study the influence of the initial chemical composition (glucans, lignin, xylan, and mannans), intrinsic viscosity, and carboxylate groups of pulps on the production process and final properties of lignocellulosic nanofibers (LCNF). Pulps of pine sawdust, eucalyptus sawdust, and sugarcane bagasse subjected to conventional pulping and highly oxidized processes were the starting materials. The LCNF were obtained by TEMPO mediated oxidation and mechanical fibrillation with a colloidal grinder. The nanofibrillation degree, chemical charge content, rheology, laser profilometry, cristallinity and atomic force microscopy were used to characterize the LCNF. The carboxylate groups, hemicelluloses and lignin of the initial pulps were important factors that affected the production process of LCNF. The results revealed that intrinsic viscosity and carboxylate groups of the initial pulps affected LCNF production process, whereas lignin and hemicelluloses influenced the viscosity of LCNF aqueous suspensions, the roughness of LCNF films, and the carboxylate groups content of LCNF.Fil: Ehman, Nanci Vanesa. Get PDF
This study aimed to develop new equations to estimate cardiorespiratory fitness specifically for older adults and, secondly, to analyze the associations of cardiorespiratory fitness, both objectively measured and estimated using new equations, with cognitive performance. Ninety-two older adults (41 females, 65-75years) from baseline data of a randomized controlled trial were analyzed ("ClinicalTrials.gov" Identifier: NCT03923712). Participants completed 4 measurement sessions including (i) physiological and health indicators in a laboratory setting, (ii) field-based fitness tests, (iii) sociodemographic and physical activity questionnaires, and (iv) a battery of neuropsychological tests to evaluate cognitive performance. The main findings were as follows: (i) a set of new equations with good predictive value for estimated cardiorespiratory fitness were developed (74-87%), using different scenarios of complexity and/or equipment requirements, and (ii) higher estimated cardiorespiratory fitness, even using its simplest equation (eCRF=-1261.99+1.97*6min walking test (m)+1.12*bioimpedance basal metabolic rate (kcal/day)+5.25*basal heart rate (bpm)), was associated with better cognitive performance evaluated by several neuropsychological tests (i.e., language, cognitive flexibility, fluency, attention, and working memory), similar to using objectively measured cardiorespiratory fitness. In summary, a new set of estimated cardiorespiratory fitness equations have been developed with predictive values ranging from 74 to 87% that could be used based on necessity, availability of equipment, resources, or measurement context. Moreover, similar to objectively measured cardiorespiratory fitness, this measure of estimated cardiorespiratory fitness was positively associated with performance on language, fluency, cognitive flexibility, attention, and working memory, independently of sex, age, and education level. © 2023. ¿Son rentables las empresas concentradas? El caso del sector de curtido de pieles en el Ecuador

    Get PDF
The present research identifies the market structure of the Tanning and Leather Sector in Ecuador ISIC: C151101and aims to establish the relation between profitability, costs and market concentration. The Herfindhal-Hirshman index used for cases of imperfect market structure has been calculated; and on the other hand, the solvency, liquidity and profitability to evaluate the financial performance of the concentrated companies. Additionally, four econometric models have been designed to which statistical tests of adecquacy have been applied. Simple and multiple linear regression analysis has been applied in several experiments through Ordinary Least Squares. Of the nine oligopoly companies, four companies have been identified that control 73,12% of the market, with a margin of return of 0,1391 average of the oligopoly for the period of study 2011-2015. One of the developed econometric models has made possible to show through Fisher’s statistical test that market concentration and production costs have an effect on profitability with a p-value of 0.00035, meaning that there is a significant linear relation of the oligopoly with cost production and market concentration, demonstrating that this group of companies makes profits because of their ability to concentrate the market

Skeletal muscle myogenesis is regulated by G protein-coupled receptor kinase 2

This is a pre-copyedited, author-produced pdf of an article accepted for publication in Journal of Molecular Cell Biology following peer review. The version of record Journal of Molecular Cell Biology 6.4 (2014) is available online at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/jmcb/mju025G protein-coupled receptor kinase 2 (GRK2) is an important serine/threonine-kinase regulating different membrane receptors and intracellular proteins. Attenuation of Drosophila Gprk2 in embryos or adult flies induced a defective differentiation of somatic muscles, loss of fibers, and a flightless phenotype. In vertebrates, GRK2 hemizygous mice contained less but more hypertrophied skeletal muscle fibers than wild-type littermates. In C2C12 myoblasts overexpression of a GRK2 kinase-deficient mutant (K220R) caused precocious differentiation of cells into immature myotubes, which were wider in size and contained more fused nuclei, while GRK2 overexpression blunted differentiation. Moreover, p38MAPK and Akt pathways were activated at an earlier stage and to a greater extent in K220R-expressing cells or upon kinase downregulation, while the activation of both kinases was impaired in GRK2- overexpressing cells. The impaired differentiation and fewer fusion events promoted by enhanced GRK2 levels were recapitulated by a p38MAPK mutant, which was able to mimic the inhibitory phosphorylation of p38MAPK by GRK2, whereas the blunted differentiation observed in GRK2-expressing clones was rescued in the presence of a constitutively active upstream stimulator of the p38MAPK pathway. These results suggest that balanced GRK2 function is necessary for a timely and complete myogenic process. This work was supported by Grants BFU2008-04043 (to M.L. and S.F.-V.), SAF2012-3618 (to S.F.-V.), and SAF2011-23800 (to F.M.) from Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, Spain; S2010/BMD-2332 (INDISNET) from Comunidad de Madrid, Spain (to F.M.); CIBER de Diabetes y Enfermedades Metabólicas Asociadas and The Cardiovascular Network (RD06- 0014/0037 and RD12/0042/0012) from Ministerio Sanidad y Consumo-Instituto Carlos III, Spain (to F.M.); UAM-Banco de Santander (to C.M.); BFU2010-14884 (to M.R.-G.). Factors Associated with Postpartum Sexual Dysfunction in Spanish Women: A Cross-Sectional Study

    Get PDF
    (1) Background: Female sexual dysfunction (FSD) has a high prevalence globally, and perinatal factors favor FSD, especially in the postpartum period. The aim was to determine the prevalence and factors influencing FSD in the postpartum period; (2) Methods: An observational study carried out in three primary care centers in southern Spain, with women in the postpartum period who had a single low-risk birth. One hundred and seventeen women answered the Female Sexual Function questionnaire during the 4th month postpartum, between January 2020 and December 2021. Sociodemographic, obstetric, neonatal variables and level of self-esteem were analyzed. A multiple logistic regression model was carried out; (3) Results: 78.4% had high level of self-esteem. FSD prevalence was 89.7%. Factors related to FSD were having an instrumental vaginal delivery, women with university studies, and prenatal preparation. Maternal age ≥ 35, multiparity, pathological processes in the child, a medium–low level of self-esteem and newborn weight were associated with disorders in some of domains of sexual function; (4) Conclusions: FSD is highly prevalent in the postpartum period and is associated with preventable factors. A preventive approach by health professionals to these factors is essential. Health services should implement postpartum follow-up programs, which may coincide in time and place with newborn follow-up programs
