Worldwide, in the last years, scientific and technological advances in health that allow innovation and sufficiency have been developed. That is the reason because is necessary to include learning methodologies that help students to improve their knowledge through tools like clinical simulation and virtual guides. These methods are useful for students because help them to improve their technical skills, self-confidence, making decisions and learning autonomy, all this allow the students to experience a real practice. So, during the subject Valuation and intervention for the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana individual and collective s nursery cares , the students could practice the virtual procedure guide about vein puncture as a significant learning methodology, where the step by step shown by the guide allowed the students to develop skills and a confident process. Thirty three students, who had access to the vein puncture guide during the first and third terms in 2015, were applied with the Likert instrument which has forty items distributed in four dimensions as: satisfaction, real clinical experiences, confidence and motivation, making decisions and technical abilities.Enfermero (a)Pregrad

Cross-neutralization of the coagulant activity of Crotalus durissus terrificus venom from the northeast of Argentina by bivalent bothropic antivenom

Cross-neutralization of Crotalus durissus terrificus venom coagulant activity was tested using bivalent horse antivenom against Bothrops alternatus and Bothrops diporus venoms. Our in vitro and in vivo experiments showed that bothropic antivenom neutralizes the thrombin-like activity of crotalic snake venom and this cross-reaction was demonstrated by immunoassays either with whole venom or a purified thrombin-like enzyme. These results suggest common antigenic properties and, consequently, similar molecular structure among venom thrombin-like enzymes. Besides, they provide information that could be further used in the development of new antivenom formulations.Fil: Rodríguez, Juan Pablo. Universidad Nacional del Nordeste. Introduction: Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), periodontitis and Systemic Lupus Erythematous (SLE) are multifactorial diseases, one of the factors in the course of these diseases is the rs333 polymorphism in the CC chemokine receptor type five (CCR5) gene. However, the results remain contradictory. Therefore, we aimed to perform a meta-analysis evaluating the relation between this polymorphism and the aforementioned conditions. Material and Methods: A search in the literature was performed in diverse scientific and medical databases for studies published before June 22, 2020. The data were extracted from the studies and the statistical evaluation was performed by the calculations of statistical heterogeneity (I²), Odds Ratio (OR) with 95% of Confidence Intervals (CI) and publication bias. The values of P<0.05 were considered as significant for all calculations. Results: 19 articles with 21 case/control studies in 4,304 case patients and 3,492 controls were included. The meta-analysis showed a non-significant association among the rs333 polymorphism and IBD (OR = 1.05, 95% CI: 0.91-1.20, P = 0.51), periodontitis (OR = 0.86, 95% CI: 0.64-1.17, P = 0.34) or SLE (OR = 1.00, 95% CI: 0.56-1.80, P = 1.00) under the allelic model or for any other performed calculation. There were no obvious publication bias in the analyses. Conclusion: In conclusion, this current meta-analysis evidenced the non-significant relation among the rs333 polymorphism and the risk of IBD, periodontitis or SLE. Further studies are required to validate our data

Impact of the COVID-19 Lockdown on a Long-Term Care Facility: The Role of Social Contact

    Get PDF
    (1) Background: Long-term care facilities (LTCFs) have been harmed by the coronavirus, and older adults have remained isolated for a long time with many restrictions. The aim of this study was to measure the decline in cognitive, functional, and affective status in a care facility after the lockdown in the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and to compare it with previous measures in order to determine if this decline was accelerated. (2) Methods: Ninety-eight participants were recruited. Data from three retrospective pre-lockdown assessments and an additional post-lockdown assessment were analyzed. Mixed ANOVA analyses were performed according to the Clinical Dementia Rating levels, considering social-contact frequency during the lockdown as a covariate. (3) Results: The cognitive and functional scores were lower and depression scores were higher after the strict lockdown, accelerating a general pattern of decline that was already present in LTCF residents. The frequency of social contact eliminated the measurement differences in the cognitive and functional scores and the group differences in depression scores. (4) Conclusions: The effects of the SARS-CoV-2 lockdown in an LTCF were mediated by the frequency of contact. Clinical implications: Preventive measures must be taken to ensure social contact with relatives and friends and reduce the negative consequences of social isolation in LTCFsS

: Rocha Lagoon is part of the chain of coastal lagoons extended along Uruguayan Atlantic coast, which continues through southern Brazil. It presents a complex ecological dynamic due to the marine-brackish gradient. The benthic macrofauna is an important component of these estuarine environments which is affected by its complex dynamics. In the present work, we analysed how sand-tongues (sand accumulation perpendicular to the sandbar) affects the macrobenthic fauna. We stablished the relationship between macrobenthos and environmental variables on a vertical (different depths within the sediment) and horizontal (both sides of the sand-tongues) scales, as well as evaluating the influence of the distance to the marine intrusion. In all the sampling points, the environmental parameters (organic matter, total phosphorus, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll-aand phaeopigments) showed a vertical trend (decreasing towards the bottom), and the macrobenthos responded to these changes. The dominance of Heleobia australis, Nephtys fluviatilisand Heteromastus similiswas observed in different sampling points and sediment depths. There is a spatial partition of resources reflected by these changes in dominance, while the vertical distribution of the macrobenthic community responds to both biotic and environmental conditions.
