Finançament de: Fundación Dexeus Salud de la Mujer; CardiolinkTo compare the effectiveness and safety of polypropylene (PP) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) transobturator tapes (TOT) for the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence (SUI). This is a multicentre randomized trial. Women with SUI or stress-predominant mixed urinary incontinence and scheduled for a TOT procedure were randomized to PP or PVDF slings. The primary outcome was 1-year cure or improvement rate using composite criteria. Complications were also compared. Relationships with outcomes were analyzed using multivariable logistic regressions models. From April 2016 to January 2018 285 participants were randomized. PP and PVDF slings showed similar high cure or improvement rate (91.0% vs. 95.6%, p = .138). Improvement in validated questionnaires was also similar. PVDF slings were associated with a lower rate of de novo urgency incontinence (adjusted odds ratio = 0.35; 95% confidence interval = 0.15-0.80). We found no statistical differences in complications rates, although a higher incidence of long-term pain events were observed in the PP group. The study is underpowered to find differences in specific complications owing to the low number of events. PP and PVDF TOTs are equally effective, although PVDF is associated with fewer cases of de novo urgency incontinence. Further studies are needed to give robust conclusions on safety profiles

Lobularia maritima as a nutrient-rich floral food source for two parasitoid wasps of Tuta absoluta

Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is one of the main pests threatening tomato production worldwide. Since its detection in the Mediterranean basin, it has been the target of research aiming to reduce damage in tomato crops. Current conservation biological control approaches focus on the polyphagous predators Macrolophus pygmaeus (Rambur) and Nesidiocoris tenuis (Reuter) (Hemiptera: Miridae), which are very effective predators of the pest’s eggs but have little effect on T. absoluta larvae. Surveys conducted in northeast of Spain have concluded that the eulophid Necremnus tutae Ribes & Bernardo and the braconid Dolichogenidea gelechiidivoris (Marsh) are the most abundant larval parasitoids. It is well known that adding floral resources near crops can provide high-quality food for natural enemies and thus enhance biological control. Previous studies showed that Lobularia maritima L. (Brassicaceae) flowers are a reliable food source for N. tutae. The present study examines whether the availability of L. maritima flowers positively influences the fitness of D. gelechiidivoris and the biological control of T. absoluta by parasitoids. To study this aspect, the performance of both wasps was evaluated in a simple and complex arena at high and low densities of T. absoluta, respectively. Our results demonstrate that the nectar of L. maritima is a nutrient-rich food source for both N. tutae and D. gelechiidivoris with profound implications on the biological control of T. absoluta in tomatoes. This research was supported by the ADOPT- IPM project funded by the European Union programmer Horizon Europe (grant Number 101060430) and the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (AGL2016-77373-C2-1-R). We report a series of organometallic nickel and palladium complexes containing iminophosphine ligands R2PCH2C(Ph) = N-Dipp (Dipp = 2,6-diisopropylphenyl; R = iPr, La; R = Ph, Lb; and R = o-C6H4OMe, Lc), synthesized by ligand exchange or oxidative addition reactions, and we investigate the capacity of such ligands to undergo reversible deprotonation to the corresponding phosphinoenaminato species. In the attempted ligand exchange reaction of the nickel bis(trimethylsilyl)methyl precursor [Ni(CH2SiMe3)2Py2] with Lb, the iminophosphine acts as a weak acid rather than a neutral ligand, cleaving one of the Ni–C bonds, to afford the phosphinoenaminato complex [Ni(CH2SiMe3)(L′b)(Py)] (L′b = conjugate base of Lb). We disclose a general method for the syntheses of complexes [Ni(CH2SiMe3)(L)(Py)]+ (L = La, Lb or Lc), and demonstrate that iminophosphine deprotonation is a general feature and occurs reversibly in the coordination sphere of the metal. By studying proton exchange reactions of the cation [Ni(CH2SiMe3)(Lb)(Py)]+ with bases of different strength we show that the conjugate phosphinoenaminato ligand in [Ni(CH2SiMe3)(L′b)(Py)] is a base with strength comparable to DBU in THF. The acyl group in the functionalized aryl complex [Ni(p-C6H4COCH3)(Br)(La)] does not interfere in the iminophosphine deprotonation with NaH. The latter reaction affords the unusual anionic hydroxide species [Ni(p-C6H4COCH3)(OH)(L′a)]−Na+, which was isolated and fully characterized. The Spanish Ministries of Economy and Innovation (MINECO) and Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (MCIU/AEI) and the EU FEDER funds of the European Union supported this work through grants CTQ2015-68978-P and PGC2018-095768-B-I00.Peer reviewe

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate and compare mitomycin C (MMC) absorption and delivery in different materials used in filtering surgery. METHODS: This is an in vitro study comparing polyvinyl alcohol triangular sponges (TS6, TS8), polyvinyl alcohol fluid wicks (EFW), and absorbable gelatin sponges (AGS3, AGS5), from which five different types of transport units were obtained. Seven pieces of sponge of each transport unit type were obtained as follows: two transverse strips were obtained at 6 and 8 mm from the apex of TS and divided into three equal pieces; 4×4 mm pieces of EFW; 3×3 and 5×5 mm pieces of absorbable gelatin sponges were cut. Filter paper was placed on a precision scale (0.01 mg). The seven sponge pieces of each type were weighed three times consecutively in dry and wet states, the latter after immersion for 15 seconds in 0.2 mg/mL MMC. The difference between the weights of the dry and wet filter paper at the end of each measurement sequence was also calculated and considered as an estimate of the amount of mitomycin delivered. RESULTS: The amounts of MMC absorbed by each transport unit were as follows: (mean ± standard deviation) 27.43±5.13 for TS6, 31.91±6.63 for TS8, 15.96±2.23 for EFW, 17.96±2.05 for AGS3, and 33.81±2.05 for AGS5. The amounts of MMC delivered to the filter paper were as follows: 21.70±2.84 for TS6, 23.83±4.03 for TS8, 12.93±1.75 for EFW, 14.69±1.79 for AGS3, and 27.30±1.58 for AGS5. CONCLUSION: Percentage MMC delivered was similar for all materials, but there was a tendency for greater delivery using larger sponges and greater homogeneity in delivery with AGS5. No statistical differences were found in percentage delivered by the different transport materials
