The economic crisis that Spain has been facing since two years ago is showing significant effects in the way citizens are dealing with consumption. Beyond decreases in the sales, there is a rising anxiety about the sustainability of the current consumption patterns as well as a concern related to new tendencies towards responsible consumption which face new challenges and opportunities. The paper we are presenting here is based on an empirical research project whose main goal has been to map necessities and consumption practices in Spain, trying to assess the impact of the crisis. To do so, our perspective has been to deepen into these complexities from the discursive side, in a qualitative sociological research whose methodology has been based on focus groups. In this work, we will discuss the analysis of the results focusing on the relationship between the act of consumption and a certain set of imposed limits that, in the pre-crisis moment -and according to the focus group participants-, have been surpassed. This has helped to develop a peculiar discourse on consumption whose main axis is guil

SOWCompact: A federated process mining method for social workflows

The growing informatization of the environment allows modeling people’s behavior as a social workflow, where both individual actions and interactions with other people are captured. This modelling includes actions that are part of an individual’s routine, as well as less frequent events. Although infrequent actions may provide relevant information, it is routine behaviors that characterize users. However, the extraction of this knowledge is not simple. There are problems when analyzing together large amounts of traces from many users, resulting into a social workflow that does not clearly depict their behavior, either individually or as a group. Tools that allow grouping/filtering of users with a common behavior pattern are needed, to analyze each of these groups separately. This study presents the federated process mining and an associated tool, SOWCompact. Its potential is validated through the case study called activities of daily living (ADL). Using federated process mining, along with current process mining techniques, more compact processes using only the social workflow’s most relevant information are obtained, while allowing the analysis of these social workflows.Universidad de Málaga. I am against them, but I use them”: a qualitative analysis of the social representations of e-consumption and platform economy

One of the most important challenges in the field of consumption is the impact of new forms of electronic commerce and other services linked to the so-called platform economy, where the consumer experience is strongly mediated by new technologies. Scholarly studies seem to point out that this trend seems unstoppable and has been further reinforced during the pandemic. However, there is not much research on these phenomena from a qualitative perspective that helps to better understand, from a sociological point of view, the existing social representations around this new digital consumption. This article tries to shed light on this topic by presenting the results of empirical research based on qualitative interviews with digital consumers in the Madrid region, conducted shortly before the pandemic.

Regeneration dynamics in fragmented landscapes at the leading edge of distribution: Quercus suber woodlands as a study case

[EN] Aims We studied the regeneration dynamics of woodlands and abandoned old fields in a landscape dominated by Quercus suber in its lower limits of rainfall and temperature. Two hypotheses were established: (1) regeneration of Quercus species is strongly favored by the presence of tree cover; and (2) growth of Q. suber is driven by the climatic variables that represent the lower ecological limit of its leading distribution edge. Methods We selected woodlands and old fields with and without tree remnants (n = 3 per type), and analyzed stand structure, soil parameters and tree growth. Results Succession was arrested in old fields without tree remnants. By contrast, remnant trees were accelerators of forest recovery in old fields. Tree cover played a fundamental role in Quercus recruitment throughout seed dispersal and facilitation that mitigate the effects of summer drought on seedlings. Also, tree cover improved soil parameters (e.g., organic matter) that are important factors for understanding differences in regeneration. Winter/spring precipitation exerted a positive effect on tree growth, as well as temperatures during winter/spring and September. Conclusions Regeneration dynamics are modeled by the density of tree cover in the cold and dry edge of the distribution area of Q. suber where Q. ilex is increasing in abundance. Although temperature has a positive effect on the tree growth of Q. suber, when demographic processes are considered, decreases in water availability likely play a critical role in Q. ilex recruitment. This in turn changes dominance hierarchies, especially in abandoned areas with little or no tree cover. This study was funded by project SA013G19 from “Junta de Castilla y León” and by research grants awarded for final projects directed in the Master’s degree in Biology and Conservation of Biodiversity at the University of Salamanca, Spain.

[ES] Fundaments: To know the Spanish scientific produc tion on Labour Medicine by means of the use of a methodologic filter search (searching equation). Methodology: A searching methodologic filter made up by the boolean union of a thematic filter was proposed. Labour Medicine descriptors used as Major Topic and a geographic filter previously checked in other studies (thematic filter AND geographic filter). Bibliometric variables were studied to know the suitability of the recovered works. Results: A filter that allows observation of the aptitude in relation to the matter of study was constructed. Using Labour Medicine, 90.87% pertinent works were found. In respect to the institutional filiations, Spanish precedence was found in 96.58% of the recovered references. Conclusion: The purpose is to use an effective filter for the MEDLINE search of studies that focus in Labour Medicine produced by Spanish institutions, being able to use them in a systematic way and even use them with other equations and focus the search in more concrete themes. The bibliometric results obtained are similar to other studies in the area of health sciences.N

Application limits of Q-Switched Nd: YAG laser irradiation for stone cleaning based on colour measurements

The application limits of the laser-cleaning technique for different types of building stones have been investigated by measuring colour variations. The selected stones differ in their chemical and mineralogical composition, colour, texture and crystallinity degree. The experimentation was carried out with a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. The colour variations on stones associated with different operative fluences were measured using a colorimeter. Further, surface morphological changes were examined under SEM. From the calculation of colour differences, a damage threshold fluence was established for each stone type. The response of the stones to laser radiation at a particular fluence was found to be mainly conditioned by their chemical and mineralogical composition and, to a less extent, by their textural characteristics

Introduction: our study sought to know the current implementation of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for anatomical lung resections in Spain. We present our initial results and describe the auditing systems developed by the Spanish VATS Group (GEVATS). Methods: we conducted a prospective multicentre cohort study that included patients receiving anatomical lung resections between 12/20/2016 and 03/20/2018. The main quality controls consisted of determining the recruitment rate of each centre and the accuracy of the perioperative data collected based on six key variables. The implications of a low recruitment rate were analysed for '90-day mortality' and 'Grade IIIb-V complications'. Results: the series was composed of 3533 cases (1917 VATS; 54.3%) across 33 departments. The centres' median recruitment rate was 99% (25-75th:76-100%), with an overall recruitment rate of 83% and a data accuracy of 98%. We were unable to demonstrate a significant association between the recruitment rate and the risk of morbidity/mortality, but a trend was found in the unadjusted analysis for those centres with recruitment rates lower than 80% (centres with 95-100% rates as reference): grade IIIb-V OR=0.61 (p=0.081), 90-day mortality OR=0.46 (p=0.051). Conclusions: more than half of the anatomical lung resections in Spain are performed via VATS. According to our results, the centre's recruitment rate and its potential implications due to selection bias, should deserve further attention by the main voluntary multicentre studies of our speciality. The high representativeness as well as the reliability of the GEVATS data constitute a fundamental point of departure for this nationwide cohort
