The Economic Crisis and Employment *. WP CSDLE “Massimo D’Antona”.INT – 121/2015

    Get PDF
In recent years, the labour market has undergone profound legislative, structural and social changes especially in the economic and production environment: on one hand, the technological revolution has led to profound changes in the organization of businesses, making work even more fungible in mechanical terms; on the other hand, the spread of the new economy and free movement of financial capitals - this latter migrating to non-European countries where labour is cheaper, thanks to a lack of legal protections and trade unions - have generated some competitive goods imports and consequently some social dumping thus damaging the employment set. Therefore, immigration directly affects the performance of the labour market. Immigration has created a class of individuals who, stressed by their state of need, are ready to accept any work conditions, often being underpaid, and sometimes or in conjunction with, the phenomenon of so-called “moonlighting” (or undeclared job)

Organic and inorganic nanoparticles for imaging and sensing in water

Nanotechnology aims at the design, synthesis, characterization and application of materials and devices on the nanoscale. Nanoparticles are defined as materials with the three dimensions in the space less than 100 nm. They possess properties hugely different from the corresponding macroscopic materials. Their peculiarities depend on the reduced size, shape, composition and interface, all aspects that can be controlled during the synthesis. Moreover, nanoparticles can act as platforms for assemble well-defined multifunctional structures able to perform varied tasks. Nanoparticles can be made by inorganic materials and by soft materials. In the currently work a wide range of nanoparticles have been designed, synthesized and characterized for various purposes. In chapter 4 we propose simple and cheap strategy to develop multi-stimuli sensitive perylene diimide (PDI) molecules to create new smart materials by self-assembly. In chapter 5 we report synthesis of designed molecule that self-assemble in nanoparticles in biocompatible environment without any dramatic decrease of fluorescence brightness. In chapter 6 a similar work has been repeated with commercial fluorophores. Detection of chemical and biological agents plays a fundamental role in environmental and biomedical sciences. In chapter 7 small gold nanocluster functionalised with seven thiols in has been studied in presence active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). In chapter eight we try to increase melanin radiation protection activity both increasing number of stable free radicals and introducing oxidative ion transition metal. We have chosen Fe(III) and Mn(III) to increase oxidative ability and Zn(II), that do not possess oxidative ability as reference. We used 4-amino-TEMPO to increase number of stable free radicals

The Correlates of Work Role Stress with Employee Burnout, Engagement

    Get PDF
The current study assessed the effects of work role stress on burnout, engagement and turnover intention. In addition, the mediating effects of satisfaction with one’s supervisor were assessed. The Job Demands Resources theory was used as a basis for the construction of the current theoretical model. The study utilized a population of non-exempt employees from a large land grant university who worked at Research and Education Centers performing manual agricultural labor. This non-exempt population is a population that is largely overlooked in literature. Findings confirmed that work role stress does have an effect on burnout and engagement, but no effect on turnover intention was supported. In addition, satisfaction with my supervisor was found to partially mediate the effects of work stress on burnout and fully mediate the effects of work stress on engagement. Implications of these findings are included with ideas to implement directives that can reduce stress and burnout and increase engagement and satisfaction with one’s supervisor

Ancient wood of the Acqualadrone rostrum: Materials history through gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and sulfur X-ray absorption spectroscopy

In 2008 the rostrum from an ancient warship was recovered from the Mediterranean near Acqualadrone, Sicily. To establish its provenance and condition, samples of black and brown rostrum wood were examined using sulfur K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). GC/MS of pyrolytic volatiles yielded only guaiacyl derivatives, indicating construction from pinewood. A derivatized extract of black wood yielded forms of abietic acid and sandaracopimaric acid consistent with pine pitch waterproofing. Numerical fits to the sulfur K-edge XAS spectra showed that about 65% of the endogenous sulfur consisted of thiols and disulfides. Elemental sulfur was about 2% and 7% in black and brown wood, respectively, while pyritic sulfur was about 12% and 6%. About 2% of the sulfur in both wood types was modeled as trimethylsulfonium, possibly reflecting biogenic (dimethylsulfonio)propionate. High-valent sulfur was exclusively represented by sulfate esters, consistent with bacterial sulfotransferase activity. Traces of chloride were detected, but no free sulfate ion. In summary, the rostrum was manufactured of pine wood and subsequently waterproofed with pine pitch. The subsequent 2300 years included battle, foundering, and marine burial followed by anoxia, bacterial colonization, sulfate reduction, and mobilization of transition metals, which produced pyrite and copious appended sulfur functionality

Compactness in Groups of Group-Valued Mappings

    Get PDF
We introduce the concepts of extended equimeasurability and extended uniform quasiboundedness in groups of group-valued mappings endowed with a topology that generalizes the topology of convergence in measure. Quantitative characteristics modeled on these concepts allow us to estimate the Hausdorff measure of noncompactness in such a contest. Our results extend and encompass some generalizations of Frechet-Smulian and Ascoli-Arzela compactness criteria found in the literature

Rearrangement and Convergence in Spaces of Measurable Functions

We prove that the convergence of a sequence of functions in the space of measurable functions, with respect to the topology of convergence in measure, implies the convergence -almost everywhere ( denotes the Lebesgue measure) of the sequence of rearrangements. We obtain nonexpansivity of rearrangement on the space , and also on Orlicz spaces with respect to a finitely additive extended real-valued set function. In the space and in the space , of finite elements of an Orlicz space of a -additive set function, we introduce some parameters which estimate the Hausdorff measure of noncompactness. We obtain some relations involving these parameters when passing from a bounded set of , or , to the set of rearrangements

Regular measures of noncompactness and Ascoli-Arzela type compactness criteria in spaces of vector-valued functions

In this paper we estimate the Kuratowski and the Hausdorff measures of noncompactness of bounded subsets of spaces of vector-valued bounded functions and of vector-valued bounded differentiable functions. To this end, we use a quantitative characteristic modeled on a new equicontinuity-type concept and classical quantitative characteristics related to pointwise relative compactness. We obtain new regular measures of noncompactness in the spaces taken into consideration. The established inequalities reduce to precise formulas in some classes of subsets. We derive Ascoli-Arzela type compactness criteria

L’obbligazione di sicurezza al tempo di Industry 4.0

    Get PDF
The essay analyzes the health and safety obligation in the 4th Industrial revolution. Starting from the normative data expressed by the legislator of 2017, we tried to identify a "hypocenter" of health and safety 4.0, in which the coordinates of the health and safety obligation for the agile workers are expressed. In particular, the concept of company organization (which determines the asset of safety applied to the agile worker), worker training (new scale) and cooperation between the contracting parties (the backbone of today's health and safety concept) has been deepened. The main consequence is that the obligation of health and safety for workers 4.0 must necessarily be re-interpreted, in view of the fact that the same article 2087 c.c. substantiates a security in eternal becoming. The health and safety obligation of agile workers can no longer be considered a result obligation, but rather a means obligation. The conclusion of the essay is entrusted to a question: is the health and safety obligation 4.0 a governable obligation
