Assessment of carotenoid production by Dunaliella salina in different culture systems and operation regimes

The effect of operation regime and culture system on carotenoid productivity by the halotolerant alga Dunaliella salina has been analyzed. Operation strategies tested included batch and semi continuous regime, as well as a two-stage approach run simultaneously in both, open tanks and closed reactor. The best results were obtained with the closed tubular photobioreactor. The highest carotenoid production (328.8 mg carotenoid l−1 culture per month) was achieved with this culture system operated following the two-stage strategy. Also, closed tubular photobioreactor provided the highest carotenoid contents (10% of dry weight) in Dunaliella biomass and β-carotene abundance (90% of total carotenoids) as well as the highest 9-cis to all-trans β-carotene isomer ratio (1.5 at sunrise).Comisión Interministerial de Ciencia y Tecnología IFD 1997-1780IFAPA CO3-125Plan Andaluz de Investigación CVI13

Electronic administration in Spain: from its beginnings to the present

This study presents the basic lines of electronic administration in Spain. The complexity of the Spanish political-administrative system makes such a study challenging, in view of the considerable degree of autonomy and competences of the regional administrative bodies and local agencies with respect to the central government, the former being more visible in the 17 regions of Spain. Nonetheless, the central government maintains a series of legal instruments that allow a certain common framework of action to be imposed, aside from what is put into effect through diverse programs aimed precisely to develop common tools for the regions and municipalities of Spain. After an introduction that provides some necessary background, this study describes the legislative framework in which Spain's electronic administrative system has developed. The data included in the study refer to investment in information and communication technologies (ICT) and the services offered by the different Administrations on the internet; internet access by citizens, homes, businesses, and employees, as well as the interactivity existing with administrations by means of the internet; the origins and rise of various political initiatives of the Central Government involving electronic administration; and finally, the situation of civil service personnel, as catalysts of the success of Information Society in the Public Administration within Spain

Una aproximación a la información para la empresa desde las organizaciones públicas y privadas de Extremadura

La información y el conocimiento son activos esenciales en la gestión empresarial. En este contexto distintas organizaciones, tanto públicas como privadas, han venido desempeñando un papel muy importante ya que se han convertido en proveedoras de información para las empresas de su entorno. Así, organizaciones muy diversas, como la Administración Central, Administraciones regionales, cámaras de comercio y organizaciones empresariales, entre otras, han establecido estructuras informativas con el objetivo de fortalecer el proceso decisorio en las empresas. En este trabajo se presentan las iniciativas más importantes que en esta materia se han puesto en marcha en Extremadura. Nos referimos a la Administración regional en el sector agrario e industrial (aunque en el ámbito agrario nos remontamos a los años cincuenta del siglo XX con el Servicio de Extensión Agraria), a las cámaras de comercio, a diversos centros europeos establecidos en la región y a las organizaciones que defienden los intereses de los empresarios.Information and knowledge are essential assets in business administration. Various organizations — both public and private— have been playing a very important role in this context, having become information providers for the companies in their environment. Quite diverse organizations, including the Central Administration, Regional Administrations, Chambers of Commerce, and business organizations, inter al., have set up information providing structures with the aim of strengthening companies’ decision processes. We here present the most important initiatives in this area that have been undertaken in Extremadura. In particular, we refer to the Regional Administration in the agrarian and industrial sectors (although in the agrarian sector this goes back to the 1950s with the Agricultural Extension Service), to the Chambers of Commerce, to various European centres set up in the Region, and to organizations that act in defence of the interests of entrepreneurs

La información para la empresa y el sistema de i+d+i: el caso de la región valenciana

La gestión de la información en la empresa no ha tenido apenas cabida en los planes de estudio de Documentación en España, apenas significa algo en la investigación que se realiza dentro del área de Documentación y tampoco existe una conciencia generalizada de las posibilidades laborales que representa. Sin embargo, la asunción de la información como un recurso de primer orden en el mundo económico y empresarial, ha dado lugar a la aparición de una disciplina como la Inteligencia Competitiva dispuesta a solventar los problemas informativos y a reducir la incertidumbre que muchas veces rodea a la empresa. Este trabajo, después de describir brevemente el sistema español de Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad, la estructura empresarial valenciana y su cultura empresarial, se adentra en dos de los ejes del sistema soporte a la I+D+i de la Comunidad valenciana a través de sus sistemas de información para la empresa: el IMPIVA, como agencia regional de fomento de la innovación, y la red de centros tecnológicos de dicha región. Entendemos que estas estructuras sirven de soporte al proceso de toma de decisiones en cuestiones que afectan a muy diversos departamentos de las empresas.Not only has the field of corporate information management been almost entirely neglected in Spain's LIS curricula and had hardly any echo in its LIS research, but there is widespread unawareness of the job opportunities that it represents. Nonetheless, the acceptance by the business and economics world of information as a resource of prime importance has led to the emergence of the discipline of Competitive Intelligence aimed at resolving the problems of information, and reducing the uncertainty that companies often find themselves surrounded by. After a brief description of the Spanish system of Science, Technology and Society, and of the corporate structure and enterprise culture of Valencia, the work focuses on two of the axes of the R & D & I support system of the Valencia Autonomous Community through its information systems for companies: the Regional agency for the promotion of innovation, Impiva, and the Region's network of technology centres. These structures are seen to provide support for the decision-making process on issues that affect many different corporate departments

Desarrollo de un nuevo sistema de hipertermia de microondas para aplicaciones

[ENG]Microwave technology is now widely used in a variety of medical applications such as cancer treatment and diagnostics. This project describes the structure of a novel hyperthermia system for biomedical research. The software Ansoft HFSS was used to design a rectangular waveguide applicator. A closed-loop is presented in order to control the output power of the system by the temperature measured on the sample. Initial results from experimental testing are presented. In these results, it is shown that the water temperature can be increased from 21ºC to 40ºC in 12 minutes. Therefore, it has been tested that the system works properly. The next step would be to apply the system to melanoma cancer cells. [SPA]Ya existen tecnologías que implican el uso de microondas en una gran variedad de aplicaciones m édicas tales como el diagnóstico y el tratamiento del cáncer. Este proyecto describe la estructura de un nuevo sistema de hipertermia para ser usado en todo tipo de investigaciones biom édicas. El software Ansoft HFSS ha sido usado para diseñar una guía de onda rectangular que ser á el componente final al que se aplicar á nuestro sistema. Además, se dispone de un bucle cerrado en el propio sistema para poder controlar la potencia de salida en función de la temperatura medida en la muestra. Properties and optimal manufacturing conditions of chicken feathers thermoplastics biocomposites

The aim of this study was the analysis and characterization of composites based on thermoplastics (ethylene vinyl acetate, polypropilene and high-density polyethylene) and chicken feathers. Several composite samples with a content of 20% v/v of chicken feathers have been studied to determine the optimal manufacturing conditions of temperature, mixing time, and mixing speed to achieve the best tensile properties. The results have shown that the addition of micronized chicken feather (20% v/v) to thermoplastic matrices increases stiffness and provides a more brittle behavior. Ethylene vinyl acetate matrix also shows an ability to participate in second-order intermolecular interactions with chicken feathers, providing better tensile properties (tensile strength and toughness) than polypropilene and high-density polyethylene. Optimal manufacturing conditions were found for a mixing time of around 5min; a mixing speed of 50rmin 1 ; and temperature values of 160 C in case of high-density polyethylene, 120 C for ethylene vinyl acetate, and 170 C for polypropilene. FTIR spectroscopic and thermogravimetric characterization of ground tyre rubber devulcanized by microwave treatment

In this work the phenomena involved with the microwave devulcanization of ground tyre rubber (GTR) were investigated. During studies three types of GTR characterized by different content of organic compounds (elastomers, plasticizers, etc..), carbon black and ash have been analyzed. The chemical structure of GTR before and after microwave devulcanization process was studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Furthermore, efficiency of microwave devulcanization conducted at different time was evaluated based on the crosslinking density and sol content values. FTIR spectroscopy results shown that devulcanization of GTR causes a decrease in carbon black with generation of CO2 due to its thermo oxidation, a decrease in structural groups of elastomeric components (mainly methylene and methine) and a breaking of C-S groups and S-S bridges. The presented results indicate the strong correlation between content of SiO2 in GTR and its degree of devulcanization. It was observed that GTR with a high content of SiO2 are easier devulcanized than samples with low content of SiO2, which suggest the presence of silica fillers improve microwave devulcanization efficiencyPostprint (author's final draft

En este trabajo se hace una exposición de la mecanización agraria en España en los últimos 65 años para ver cómo ha evolucionado este sector que tanta importancia tiene en el nivel tecnológico de la agricultura de cualquier país. A continuación se presentan las estadísticas de la evolución del parque de tractores y máquinas agrícolas en España desde el año 1970 y los datos de las ventas en el sector en los últimos 10 años. También se exponen los datos del sector agrario en cuanto a población activa, la incidencia de la producción agraria en el PIB y el consumo energético. Se consideran los requisitos para la homologación de los tractores y las máquinas que se vendan en España (que son idénticos al resto de los países de la UE) y las ayudas que se conceden para la adquisición de tractores y máquinas, incluyendo un estudio realizado en España para clasificar los tractores desde el punto de vista de su eficiencia energética con objeto de incentivar la adquisición de los tractores más eficiente
