Ammonia levels on in vitro degradation of fibrous carbohydrates from buffel grass

This study was carried out to examine the degradation dynamics of neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and the profile of volatile fatty acids that originate from the fermentation of buffel grass (Cenchrus ciliaris, L.) with various levels of ammonia in the growth medium. The treatments consisted of six levels of ammonia in the growth medium (0, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 mg/dL), which were obtained by adding urea. These in vitro incubation times were evaluated in three replicates per time for 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 24, 36, 48, 72 and 96 hours. Rumen concentrations of acetate and propionate responded quadratically to the ammonia levels. The treatment with 15 mg/dL of ammonia nitrogen in the rumen fluid provided mean acetate and propionate contents of 57.6 mM and 23.1 mM, respectively. Urea addition elevated the degradation rate of potentially degradable fraction of NDF (pdNDF) from 2.5% to 20.1% in comparison with the treatment without urea and to a reduction in estimated discrete lag time from 0.34 to 2.31 hours. Urea supplementation increased the specific microorganism growth rate from 2.6% to 20.1%. At the end of the incubation trial, NDF degradation showed a quadratic response, with maximum value obtained at 17.76 mg/dL of ammonia in the rumen fluid. Urea improves the degradation dynamics of NDF from deferred buffel grass and increases the concentrations of acetate and propionate. Keywords: Cenchrus ciliaris, degradation kinetics, non-protein nitrogen, ure

Multidisciplinary Experience In The Selection Of Patients For Tubal Sterilization.

Results of the use of a special protocol for evaluation of patients requiring tubal ligation is presented after applied by a multidisciplinary group. The authors conclude that the use of defined parameters of age, parity, marital union duration, number of children alive and the presence of maternal clinical pathology are useful to identify patients with smaller chances of regret after surgery.27% of reproductive-age women in Brazil have chosen surgical sterilization as their contraceptive method. Most of these women who have undergone tubal sterilization opted for cesarean surgery. However, given the young ages of many of these women, many regret having been sterilized. This paper summarizes the experience of a multidisciplinary group in evaluating women who apply for surgical sterilization at the Department of Tocogynecology, Faculdade de Ciencas Medicas, Universidade Estadual de Campinas in Sao Paulo. Detailed descriptions are presented of the medical and social characteristics of cases seen between June 1988 and July 1989. The authors conclude that the use of the defined parameters of age, parity, marital union duration, number of living children, and the presence of maternal clinical pathology are useful in identifying the patients who are least likely to regret undergoing surgical sterilization.113171572

Asymmetries between the production of D+ and D- mesons from 500 GeV/c pi- nucleon interactions as a function of xF and pt**2

We present asymmetries between the production of D+ and D- mesons in Fermilab experiment E791 as a function of xF and pt**2. The data used here consist of 74,000 fully-reconstructed charmed mesons produced by a 500 GeV/c pi- beam on C and Pt foils. The measurements are compared to results of models which predict differences between the production of heavy-quark mesons that have a light quark in common with the beam (leading particles) and those that do not (non-leading particles). While the default models do not agree with our data, we can reach agreement with one of them, PYTHIA, by making a limited number of changes to parameters used

Mass Splitting and Production of Σc0\Sigma_c^0 and Σc++\Sigma_c^{++} Measured in 500GeV500 {GeV} π\pi^- -N Interactions

From a sample of 2722±782722 \pm 78 Λc+\Lambda_c^+ decaying to the pKπ+pK^-\pi^+ final state, we have observed, in the hadroproduction experiment E791 at Fermilab, 143±20143 \pm 20 Σc0\Sigma_c^0 and 122±18122 \pm 18 Σc++\Sigma_c^{++} through their decays to Λc+π±\Lambda_c^+ \pi^{\pm}. The mass difference M(Σc0)M(Λc+M(\Sigma_c^0) - M(\Lambda_c^+) is measured to be (167.38±0.29±0.15)MeV(167.38\pm 0.29\pm 0.15) {MeV}; for M(Σc++)M(Λc+)M(\Sigma_c^{++}) - M(\Lambda_c^+), we find (167.76±0.29±0.15)MeV(167.76\pm 0.29\pm0.15) {MeV}. The rate of Λc+\Lambda_c^+ production from decays of the Σc\Sigma_c triplet is (22\pm 2\pm 3) {%} of the total Λc+\Lambda_c^+ production assuming equal rate of production from all three, as measured for Σc0\Sigma_c^0 and Σc++\Sigma_c^{++}. We do not observe a statistically significant Σc\Sigma_c baryon-antibaryon production asymmetry. The xFx_F and pt2p_t^2 spectra of Λc+\Lambda_c^+ from Σc\Sigma_c decays are observed to be similar to those for all Λc+\Lambda_c^+'s produced.Comment: 15 pages, uuencoded postscript 3 figures uuencoded, tar-compressed fil
