A research on telemetry or remote measurement has been conduced, for the parameters of the position of a moving object, ie the vehicle. Parameters such as latitude and longitude position is obtained from the GPS receiver (Global Positioning System). GPS receiver is used Ublox Noe 6 M. In addition it's also added a altitude parameter, which is obtained by converting the changes of air pressure. Sensor BMP180 used to measure air pressure. Both of these devices are read and controlled by a microcontroller ATmega328 with the Arduino software. The GPS receiver to get latitude and longitude coordinates from the satellite. Coodinates data is sent to a microcontroller, combined with altitide data, then data sent to the database server using internet with GSM network. In this system used web interface that allows users to monitor the position of the vehicle, without necessary for special receiving station. Based on the results of validation latitude and longitude coordinates from the GPS receiver, with GARMIN GPS devices with the GPSMAP 78s series, this GPS receiver has the highest standart deviation ± 0.000006 degrees for the longitude and ± 0.000012 for latitude. The position of the vehicle in form of latitude and longitude coordinates, then illustrated on Google Maps. The results of this study, acqusition system that has been mounted on the vehicle position coordinates can transmit data to the server, and the data transmission process becomes faster and cheaper. This system will continue sends the data for vehicles that are in the area covered by the GSM network provider. Lack of this system is data transmission medium that is highly dependent on the availability of the GSM network. If the GSM network is weak, it can cause failures in data transmission

Evaluation of Annual Allowable Cut (AAC) Determination of Teak Forest Plantations in Perum Perhutani, Indonesia

    Get PDF
The degradation of teak forest plantations in Java that are managed by Perum Perhutani (PP) continues to happen, and this is caused by some risk factors such as illegal logging, grazing, forest fire, and encroachment. However, these risk factors have not been considered by PP notably in annual allowable cut (AAC) determination of yield regulation. Therefore, the AAC value could be overestimated. The research was aimed at evaluating the method of AAC determination and proposing an alternative method that considers the risk factors. This research was conducted with a series of data analysis approach from the data on five planning periods. The research result showed that forest damage occurs in varied situations. On average, the rate of deforestation accounted for 0.8% per annum. The calculation of AAC by considering the rate of damage risk in normal condition approximately made up 70.8%. Thus, compared to another method without considering damage risk rate, overestimation constituted 29.2%. In brief, this had an impact on the decline of timber stock.

Designing Optimal Speed Control with Observer Using Integrated Battery-electric Vehicle (IBEV) Model for Energy Efficiency

This paper develops an optimal speed control using a linear quadratic integral (LQI) control standard with/without an observer in the system based on an integrated battery-electric vehicle (IBEV) model. The IBEV model includes the dynamics of the electric motor, longitudinal vehicle, inverter, and battery. The IBEV model has one state variable of indirectly measured and unobservable, but the system is detectable. The objectives of this study were: (a) to create a speed control that gets the exact solution for a system with one indirect measurement and unobservable state variable; and (b) to create a speed control that has the potential to make a more efficient energy system. A full state feedback LQI controller without an observer is used as a benchmark. Two output feedback LQI controllers are designed; including one controller uses an order-4 observer and the other uses an order-5 observer. The order-4 observer does not include the battery state of charge as an observer state whereas the order-5 observer is designed by making all the state variable as the observer state and using the battery state of charge as an additional system output. An electric passenger minibus for public transport with 1500 kg weight was used as the vehicle model. Simulations were performed when the vehicle moves in a flat surface with the increased speed from stationary to 60 km/h and moves according to standard NEDC driving profile. The simulation results showed that both the output feedback LQI controllers provided similar speed performance as compared to the full state feedback LQI controller. However, the output feedback LQI controller with the order-5 observer consumed less energy than with the order-4 observer, which is about 10% for NEDC driving profile and 12% for a flat surface. It can be concluded that the LQI controller with order-5 observer gives better energy efficiency than the LQI controller with order-4 observe

Beyond 'Trimming the fat': the sub-editing stage of newswriting

    Get PDF
Thus far, professional editing has not been researched extensively in writing research. This article zooms in on sub-editing in newswriting as a form of professional editing, addressing three research questions: (a) What are the ways in which a news article's text is altered?, (b) Are some types of news article altered more significantly than others?, and (c) Are certain news article sections more prone to alterations? Merging the contextualized insights of fieldwork with a corpus-based discourse analytic research perspective, we trace the differences (viz. additions, deletions, translocations, replacements) between the initial (right before sub-editing) and final (published) version of six different types of news article, (frontpage, headline, long, medium, short, and news wire article) in a corpus sample of 30 broadsheet articles. Our findings are first thatcontrary to popular belief that sub-editors mainly hack away at news stories, or merely trim the fatadditions prevail. Second, we found that most interventions occur in high-stakes articles. Third, we discovered the largest number of interventions in the entry points of an article, that is, whereaccording to eye-tracking researchreaders stop scanning and start reading. We discuss our findings in the light of training for professional newswriters

Discrimination of n-3 Rich Oils by Gas Chromatography

    Get PDF
Exploring the capabilities of instrumental techniques for discriminating n-3 rich oils derived from animals is a very important though much neglected area that was emphasized more than 100 years ago. In this study the potential of gas chromatography (GC) for discriminating full fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) profiles from fish (cod liver and salmon) and marine mammal (seal and whale) oils is evaluated by means of principal component analysis (PCA). The FAME profiles from plant oils such as rapeseed, linseed and soy oils and seven different brands of n-3 supplements are also used in the discrimination process. The results from the PCA plots can reliably distinguish between plant, n-3 supplements, fish and marine mammal oils. By removing the contribution of the n-3 supplements and plant oils it is possible to discriminate between types of fish and marine animal oils. GC offers a rapid, simple and convenient means of discriminating oils from different species, brands and grades
