    Fiber Based Multiple-Access Optical Frequency Dissemination

    We demonstrate a fiber based multiple-access optical frequency dissemination scheme. Without using any additional laser sources, we reproduce the stable disseminated frequency at an arbitrary point of fiber link. Relative frequency stability of 3E10^{-16}/s and 4E10^{-18}/10^4s is obtained. A branching fiber network for highly-precision synchronization of optical frequency is made possible by this method and its applications are discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

    Collisional Transfer of Population and Orientation in NaK

    We report current work to study transfer of population and orientation in collisions of NaK molecules with argon and potassium atoms using polarization labeling (PL) and laser- induced fluorescence (LIF) spectroscopy. In the PL experiment, a circularly polarized pump laser excites a specific NaK A1Ī£ +(v 0=16, J 0 ) ā† X1Ī£ +(v 00=0, J 0 Ā± 1) transition, creating an orientation (non-uniform MJ0 level distribution) in both levels. The linearly polarized probe laser is scanned over various 31Ī (v, J 0Ā±1) ā† A1Ī£ +(v 0=16, J 0 ) transitions. The probe laser passes through a crossed linear polarizer before detection, and signal is recorded if the probe laser polarization has been modified by the vapor (which occurs when it comes into resonance with an oriented level). Using both spectroscopic methods, analysis of weak collisional satellite lines adjacent to these directly populated lines, as a function of argon buffer gas pressure and cell temperature, allows us to discern separately the effects collisions with argon atoms and potassium atoms have on the population and orientation of the molecule. In addition, code has been written which provides a theoretical analysis of the process, through a solution of the density matrix equations of motion for the system

In addition to strong direct transitions (J 0 = J), we also observe weak collisional satellite lines (J 0 = J Ā±n with n = 1, 2, 3, ...) indicating that orientation is transferred to adjacent rotational levels during a collision. An LIF experiment (with linear polarized pump and probe beams) gives information on the collisional transfer of population. From these data, cross sections for both processes can be determined.     Spin and lattice excitations of a BiFeO3 thin film and ceramics

    We present a comprehensive study of polar and magnetic excitations in BiFeO3 ceramics and a thin film epitaxially grown on an orthorhombic (110) TbScO3 substrate. Infrared reflectivity spectroscopy was performed at temperatures from 5 to 900 K for the ceramics and below room temperature for the thin film. All 13 polar phonons allowed by the factor-group analysis were observed in theceramic samples. The thin-film spectra revealed 12 phonon modes only and an additional weak excitation, probably of spin origin. On heating towards the ferroelectric phase transition near 1100 K, some phonons soften, leading to an increase in the static permittivity. In the ceramics, terahertz transmission spectra show five low-energy magnetic excitations including two which were not previously known to be infrared active; at 5 K, their frequencies are 53 and 56 cm-1. Heating induces softening of all magnetic modes. At a temperature of 5 K, applying an external magnetic field of up to 7 T irreversibly alters the intensities of some of these modes. The frequencies of the observed spin excitations provide support for the recently developed complex model of magnetic interactions in BiFeO3 (R.S. Fishman, Phys. Rev. B 87, 224419 (2013)). The simultaneous infrared and Raman activity of the spin excitations is consistent with their assignment to electromagnons

    Persistent Hypertension is Associated with Low Hdl in Young Adults: an Evidence from Taiwan Five Years Population Based Cohort Study

    Background: Hypertension (HT) is one of major risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and its combination with other risk factors, i.e. dyslipidemia, could worsen the health. The burden of CVD is now shifting to younger age, and its development is even in the earlier life period. Young adults with rare health check and lack of awareness in CVD risk factor may result in suboptimal management. This study aimed to investigate the association of persistent HT and low HDL level in 5 years follow up among young adults aged 15-25 years. Subjects and Methods: This study was done using Tw3SHH, a Taiwan population based cohort study (2002 to 2007), among young adults 15-25 years of age. HT was defined as the SBP>120mmHg and/or DBP>80 mmHg and/or respondent was told of having HT by medical personnel. HT development was classified based on their HT status in 2002 and 2007: ā€œNon-HT (no HT both in 2002 and 2007)ā€, ā€œImproved HT (HT in 2002 and no HT in 2007)ā€, ā€Worsened HT (no HT in 2002 and HT in 2007)ā€, and ā€œPersistent HT (HT both in 2002 and 2007)ā€. HDL was grouped based on NCEP-ATP III, and the low HDL defined as HDL<40mg/dl. Exercise, fatty food consumption and smoking status were based in self-reported questions. The data were analyzed by a multiple logistic regĀ¬resĀ¬sion model to estimate the association of persistent HT and low HDL level in 5-years. Covariates were sex, age, smoking habit, exercise habit, fatty food conĀ¬sumpĀ¬tion, and HbA1C. Results: About 9.35% of 727 study subjects had persistent HT. Compared to non-HT group, persistent HT group had higher risk of having low HDL level (crude OR= 3.70; CI 95%= 1.90 to 7.2; p<0.001; adjusted OR= 2.44; CI 95%= 1.18 to 5.03; p= 0.015). This association persisted (crude OR= 4.90; CI 95% 2.29 to 10.49; p<0.001; adjusted OR= 2.89; CI 95%= 1.34 to 6.24; p= 0.007) in subĀ¬group analysis among study subjects without low baseline HDL. Conclusion: Persistent HT is associated with low HDL level in 5 years follow up among young adults 15-25 years of age. Although universal screening in lipid profile among children and youth is still controversial, awareness to this condition should be raised.     Hypernuclei as chiral solitons

    The identification of flavored multiskyrmions with the ground states of known hypernuclei is successful for several of them, e.g. for isodoublet H(Lambda) - He(Lambda), A=4, isoscalars He(Lambda) (A=5) and Li(Lambda) (A=7). In other cases agreement is not so good, but the behaviour of the binding energy with increasing baryon number is in qualitative agreement with data. Charmed or beauty hypernuclei within this approach are predicted to be bound stronger than strange hypernuclei.     A nested alignment graph kernel through the dynamic time warping framework

    In this paper, we propose a novel nested alignment graph kernel drawing on depth-based complexity traces and the dynamic time warping framework. Specifically, for a pair of graphs, we commence by computing the depth-based complexity traces rooted at the centroid vertices. The resulting kernel for the graphs is defined by measuring the global alignment kernel, which is developed through the dynamic time warping framework, between the complexity traces. We show that the proposed kernel simultaneously considers the local and global graph characteristics in terms of the complexity traces, but also provides richer statistic measures by incorporating the whole spectrum of alignment costs between these traces.
