Apollo Telescope Mount Experiments Technology

The Skylab Apollo Telescope Mount (ATM) experiments, consisting of a white light coronagraph, four ultraviolet instruments, two X-ray telescopes and two Hydrogen-alpha telescopes, observed the Sun daily for nine solar rotations. The results have only begun to be evaluated, but it is already apparent that many theories of solar physics will undergo significant revisions as results are further developed. The ATM instruments were individually larger, more complex, and provided better spatial resolution than previous solar satellite instruments. An additional major advantage of the telescope complex was its ability to simultaneously collect multispectral data of specific solar phenomena. To maximize the scientific benefits of the orbiting observatory, a coordinated observing program involving worldwide ground-based observatories was conducted. A description of the Skylab, the ATM and the ATM experiments will be given. The daily process of flight planning and execution will be described. Examples of scientific data and some preliminary findings will be presented

An award fee contract is described as an arrangement whereby the government periodically awards a fee consistent with the cost, schedule and technical performance that is achieved by a contractor during a preset period with preset award fee pools. It's the only contracting method where both the government and contractor goals are closely linked. It also has a built-in mechanism to conveniently alter and emphasize program events in order to current external and internal situations. The award fee process also demands good communication between government and contractor participants

Mothers of Sons with Substance Use Disorders: A Grounded Theory Approach Revealing Maternal Expectations and Three Stages of Change

Addiction problems in a family present challenges in coping with the addicted family member\u27s behaviors are often described in terms of the psychopathology of the interactions of the family members. The present article describes a qualitative study of the lived experiences of mothers whose male children have struggled or currently are struggling with chemical dependence. Our overall aim in the study was to explore critical stages or events in the experiences of these mothers relevant to their chemically dependent sons. As such, our research question was: What are the lived experiences of mothers of substance abusing sons who are either in recovery or are still using substances? Results of the interviews of nine mothers indicated that regardless of age, ethnicity, social status, education, or career, they experienced a process highlighted by maternal expectations and consisting of three stages: (a) the pre-addiction stage in which mother and son did not experience abnormal relational stress or conflict, (b) the addiction stage in which mother and son experienced extreme relational stress and conflict, and (c) the mother\u27s recovery stage in which the mother experienced a confusion in her relationship with her son and his addiction leading to her own recovery and wellness

Digital supply chain management in the videogames industry: a systematic literature review

As industries mature, they rely more heavily on supply chain management (SCM) to ensure effective operations leading to greater levels of organisational performance. SCM has been widely covered in many industrial areas and, in line with other burgeoning sectors such as Tourism, an industry focus provides the opportunity to look in-depth at the context-based factors that affect SCM. Developments in digital distribution and rapid technological innovations have resulted in an increased focus on Digital Supply Chains (DSCs), which bring about significant changes to how consumers, customers, suppliers, and manufacturers interact, affecting supply chain design and processes. Through a systematic review of the Videogames Industry Supply Chain Management literature, which serves as a pertinent contextual example of a DSC, we look at how supply chains are affected by structural, market and technological change, such as increased platformisation, disintermediation and the proliferation of digital distribution. We distil these findings into a new research agenda, which identifies themes in line with extant DSC research, provides a series of relevant practice recommendations and identifies opportunities for future research

The videographic essay: criticism in sound and image

Book synopsis: The last decade has seen extraordinary developments in the multimedia presentation of cinema and moving image scholarship via the form that is commonly known as the ‘video essay’. What the finest examples of this videographic criticism have made clear is that such work allows for and even demands a different rhetoric than written film scholarship, which can in turn transform how we engage with and study cinematic texts. Some of the form’s alternative rhetorical approaches to the traditional scholarly goal of producing knowledge were tested in summer 2015 at an NEH-funded workshop, ‘Scholarship in Sound and Image’, organised by Christian Keathley and Jason Mittell at Middlebury College in Vermont. There, fourteen international scholars gathered to experiment with the new form. This volume grows out of that workshop, and out of a follow-up edition in 2017. With special focus on the practice and pedagogy of videographic production, the volume contains detailed descriptions of the assignments that were designed to both stimulate work and teach technology; in addition, a companion page on the caboose website features videos produced by participants during the workshop. This unique volume will be of great value to teachers and students, critics and videomakers, as well as anyone interested in this growing area of critical practice. The volume also addresses issues such as the professional validation of videographic work, copyright and fair use, and technology. Also featured are two scholarly essays by co-editor Catherine Grant and original contributions by the workshop’s special guests: Eric Faden and Kevin B. Lee
