Orada ve Burada: İki Göçmen Türk Kadından Dijital Hikâyeyle Avustralya'daki Kırk Yılı Hatırlamak

In this article I focus on two digital stories that were created in a digital storytelling workshop that I ran in the scope of my research project “Here and There: The Everyday life Narratives of Migrant Women From Turkey Living in Melbourne”, funded by Hacettepe University Scientific Research Fund, organized in cooperation with Monash University Women’s Studies and Gender Research Centre and Moreland Turkish Association. I follow the traces of the everyday life issue in the digital stories of İlmiye and Remziye who have arrived to Australia from Turkey as guest workers between 1968-1982.Bu yazıda, 2014 yılının Temmuz - Eylül ayları arasında Avustralya’nın Melbourne kentinde, Hacettepe Üniversitesi Bilimsel Araştırmalar Birimi’nin proje desteğini alarak gittiğim Avustralya’da Monash Üniversitesi Kadın Çalışmaları ve Toplumsal Cinsiyet Araştırmaları Merkezi ve Moreland Türk Derneği işbirliğiyle gerçekleştirdiğim “Orada ve Burada: Melbourne’de Yaşayan Türkiye’den Göç Etmiş Kadınların Gündelik Hayat Anlatıları” projesi kapsamındaki üç dijital hikâye anlatımı atölyesinin ilkinden seçtiğim iki dijital hikâyeye odaklanıyorum. Migrant Stances Among Cultures: "My Erasmus Adventure" Digital Stories

Erasmus Mobility Program provides the funds for university students to visit higher education institutions around European Union and program countries, taking credits to transfer to their home institutions. Although the main objective of the program seems to provide the opportunities for credit transfers between institutions, the primary aim is to contribute to the construction of a collective European identity while enhancing intercultural encounters. Fulfilling the objective of constructing a collective European identity is open to questioning while it is obvious that the program is successful to provide opportunities for intercultural encounters. In this article, we examine the narratives of students who used Erasmus mobility program for studying abroad and then reflected their experiences in one of the three digital storytelling workshops we facilitated under the name “My Erasmus Adventure” since 2011. The narratives about student mobilities that are recently introduced in migration studies are taken into consideration in terms of intercultural encounter basis.</p

İlaca Bağlı Olarak Çene Kemiklerinde Görülen Osteonekroz (MRONJ)

Bifosfonatlar kemik metastazı ile tümör ve hiperkalsemi vakalarında yaşam standartlarını geliştirmek açısından kullanılan ilaçlardır. Bu ilaçlar için en tehlikeli yan etki olarak da osteonekroza sebebiyet verme riskinden bahsedilebilir. Bifosfonata bağlı olarak oluşan bu osteonekroz, ilk olarak 2002 yılında Marx ve Stern tarafından bifosfonat kullanan hastaların bir kısmında ağız içinde ortaya çıkan, iyileşmeyen, üstü mukoza ile örtülü olmayan ekspoze osteonekrotik kemik alanlarının varlığını farketmeleri ile teşhis edilmiştir.Bifosfonatların kullanımına bağlı olarak çene kemiklerinde görülen bu osteonekroz lsquo%253BBisphosphonate-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw kelimelerinin baş harflerinin birleştirilmesinden oluşan BRONJ terimi olarak literatüre geçmiştir. Ancak yıllar içinde bu konuda hasta üzerinde yapılan çalışma ve araştırmalar artmış olup bu çeşit bir osteonekroza sadece bifosfonat türevi ilaçların değil%253B RANKL inhibitörü olan denosumab gibi kemoterapötik ilaçlar ve türevlerinin de sebep olduğu ortaya konmuştur. 2014 yılında lsquo%253BAmerikan Oral ve Maksillofasiyal Cerrahi Derneği (lsquo%253Blsquo%253BAmerican Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS)) terimsel olarak değişikliğe gidilmesi gerekliliği nedeniyle ilaca bağlı olarak çene kemiklerinde görülen osteonekroz manasına gelen lsquo%253BMedication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw(MRONJ) olarak terimi güncellemiştir. Günümüzde MRONJ ile ilgili çalışmalar yoğun bir şekilde tüm dünyada devam etmektedir

Recent Advances in Health Biotechnology During Pandemic

The outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which emerged in 2019, cut the epoch that will make profound fluctuates in the history of the world in social, economic, and scientific fields. Urgent needs in public health have brought with them innovative approaches, including diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. To exceed the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, various scientific authorities in the world have procreated advances in real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) based diagnostic tests, rapid diagnostic kits, the development of vaccines for immunization, and the purposing pharmaceuticals for treatment. Diagnosis, treatment, and immunization approaches put for- ward by scientific communities are cross-fed from the accrued knowledge of multidisciplinary sciences in health biotechnology. So much so that the pandemic, urgently prioritized in the world, is not only viral infections but also has been the pulsion in the development of novel approaches in many fields such as diagnosis, treatment, translational medicine, virology, mi- crobiology, immunology, functional nano- and bio-materials, bioinformatics, molecular biol- ogy, genetics, tissue engineering, biomedical devices, and artificial intelligence technologies. In this review, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the development of various scientific areas of health biotechnology are discussed

Meta-analytic review of the relation between board globalization and firm performance

Following the corporate governance scandals such as Enron, WorldCom, and Vivendi, the special attention has been attached to the board composition, and different dimensions related to board diversity has been discussed in this context. Recently, the interest in the board of directors’ diversity has shifted to the globalization of boards, and the number of studies that investigates the relation between foreign board members and firm financial performance has increased. However, these studies report contradictory results,therefore the current study aims to reconcile these conflicting results. In response to these results, meta-analyses have been conducted by using the results obtained from 21 individual studies. The results show that the relation between foreign board representation and general firm financial performance is positive, however, the effect size for this relation is small. Similarly, there is a positive relation between foreign board representation and accounting-based firm performance. By contrast, the analysis has found that there is no statistically significant relation between foreign board representation and marketbased firm performance. Overall, the results suggest that although foreign board representation does not lead large-scale increase in the firm financial performance, the impact is still positive. Even though the study has several limitations, the findings might assist the executives, shareholders, regulators, and researcher

Beta-type distributions and statistical applications

Bu çalışmada iki pozitif şekil parametreli ve (0,1) aralığında tanımlı beta dağılımına alternatif olan beta tipi dağılımlardan Kumaraswamy dağılımı, iki yönlü kuvvet dağılımı, tamamlayıcı beta dağılımı ve bileşik beta dağılımı ele alınmıştır. Bu dağılımların özellikleri, diğer dağılımlarla olan ilişkileri, sıra istatistikleri, parametrelerinin tahmin edicileri ve rastgele sayı üretimleri üzerine çalışılmış ve dağılımlar çeşitli gerçek veri kümelerini modellemede kullanılmıştır.In this work beta-type distributions such as Kumaraswamy distribution, two-sided power distribution, the complementery beta distribution, the compound beta distribution, which are alternatively defined to beta distribution on (0,1), are considered. We study the properties, the relationships with other distributions, order statistics, parameter estimation and random variate generations of the distributions. We also model the distributions with some real data sets
