This article reports the results of an empirical investigation of physician’s social representations of AIDS. These representations could have consequences on health care quality, and on physician’s attitudes conceming HIV-infected subjects, persuasive messages about risk avoidance, behavior change, prevention and counselling. In thk study were considered 245 subjects: 105 General Pratitionners/Family Doctors, 30 Psychiatrists, 25 Infecciologists, 25 Surgeons and 60 Dentists. The results show a overlapping tendency of personal inferences, which are congruent with preexisting representations, in comparison with contents anchored in medical knowledge

Simulation can be defined as the technique used to replace or amplify real experiences, which can be in an environment of total or partial immersion, which evokes or replicates essential aspects of daily practice, in an interactive way. This is a descriptive study, of the experience report type, based on the reports of nine medical students. The benefits reported by academics show that simulation allows the use of this controlled environment in the teaching of cardiology, where the error does not have a direct harmful consequence to the patient, on the contrary, even these situations generate a learning opportunity with the discussions generated around of the proposed scenario. This allows students to feel less pressured, insecure, creating an environment with greater comfort and safety. These reports reinforce the benefits of the method for the learning process, highlighting the possibility of repetition without harming the patient.

This paper discusses an automated approach to database change management throughout the companies’ development workflow. By using automated tools, companies can avoid common issues related to manual database deployments. This work was motivated by analyzing usual problems within organizations, mostly originated from manual interventions that may result in systems disruptions and production incidents. In addition to practices of continuous integration and continuous delivery, the current paper describes a case study in which a suggested pipeline is implemented in order to reduce the deployment times and decrease incidents due to ineffective data controlling

Rubinstein – Taybi in Syndrome a Peruvian patient with mild mental retardation: A case report / Síndrome de Rubinstein - Taybi em um paciente Peruano com leve retardo mental: Um relato de caso

Rubisntein-Taybi syndrome is of genetic origin, caused by a mutation in the CREBBP gene, which undergoes classic phenotypic changes and changes in neuropsychomotor development. In this sense, this article aims to report the case of a Peruvian patient with the clinical and genotypic diagnosis of the disease. During the prenatal period, the fetus did not have alterations that would suggest the syndrome, but at birth, it had a hemangioma, but without clinical repercussion. In the first three months of life, its development was normal, but from the fourth month on, delays were noticed. At 6 months of age, he was not holding his head, so the parents looked for a geneticist who first made the clinical diagnosis and then requested the karyotype, which confirmed the diagnosis. With this, he already started with multidisciplinary treatment and was still placed to study in regular schools in order to improve his development. Currently, at the age of 15, the patient is in treatment with a multidisciplinary approach and in a school to include children with some neurological weakness in the social environment, in order to avoid bullying from other colleagues. He presents phenotypic alterations characteristic of the syndrome, but the cognitive delay is mild when compared to other adolescents with the same pathology. Therefore, this work shows the need for diagnosis and a multidisciplinary approach in treatment. Even so, more studies are needed to learn more about this syndrome and thus provide a better safeguard of the lives of the patients, as occurred in the case of this patient

Rett syndrome is of genetic origin, caused by a mutation of dominant characteristic in the MeCP2 gene, which studies with psychomotor alterations in children. In this sense, this article aims to report the case of a Peruvian patient with the late diagnosis of the disease. The patient started the clinical characteristics of the disease at one year and two months, but the diagnosis, with a genetic study that identified the mutation, was only made at 3 years. During this period her diagnoses were: absence epilepsy and microcephaly. These misconceptions favored the accentuation of biopsychomotor delays. Currently, at the age of 4, the patient is being treated with a multidisciplinary approach, but as there are serious sequelae, there are delays in development and results take time to appear. Therefore, this work shows the difficulty of diagnosis, the need for a multidisciplinary approach in treatment and that there is a need for more studies to learn more about this syndrome and thus be able to provide a better safeguard of the lives of the patients

Intracellular autofluorescence as a new biomarker for cancer stem cells in glioblastoma

    Get PDF
The identification of cancer stem cells (CSCs), which are implicated in tumor initiation, progression, therapy resistance, and relapse, is of great biological and clinical relevance. In glioblastoma (GBM), this is still a challenge, as no single marker is able to universally identify populations of GBM cancer stem cells (GSCs). Indeed, there is still controversy on whether biomarker-expressing cells fulfill the functional criteria of bona fide GSCs, despite being widely used. Here, we describe a novel subpopulation of autofluorescent (Fluo+) cells in GBM that bear all the functional characteristics of GSCs, including higher capacity to grow as neurospheres, long-term self-renewal ability, increased expression of stem cell markers, and enhanced in vivo tumorigenicity. Mechanistically, the autofluorescent phenotype is largely due to the intracellular accumulation of riboflavin, mediated by the ABC transporter ABCG2. In summary, our work identifies an intrinsic cellular autofluorescent phenotype enriched in GBM cells with functional stem cells features that can be used as a novel, simple and reliable biomarker to target these highly malignant tumors, with implications for GBM biological and clinical research. This research was funded by FEDER funds through the Operational Programme Competitiveness Factors–COMPETE and National Funds through FCT under the projects UIDB/50026/2020, UIDP/50026/2020, and POCI-01-0145-FEDER-007038; by the project NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000013, NORTE-01-0246-FEDER-000012, and NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000023, supported by Norte Portugal Regional Operational Programme (NORTE 2020), under the PORTUGAL 2020 Partnership Agreement, through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
