The monad and the cut in Samuel Beckettâs Endgame
Interruptions and false starts are omnipresent in Beckettâs work, revealing a similar preoccupation with the cut in psychoanalysis. And yet, Endgame would seem to present a situation devoid of a structuring cut, with its characters lodged in a form of uniform monad devoid of any opening to the outside: it appears as a desperately homogenous world, belonging to the imaginary register, one that dissimulates real anxiety. One major cut is therefore the exclusion of the characters from the phallic register, supportive of desire. While the refuge is a place of stasis, the cut intervenes in the come and go movement leaning on the symbolic register, driving the movement to go on. Clovâs tormented relationship to Hamm can be seen as exemplifying the formula of the fantasy, involving the cut between subject and a object, where any complementarity dissimulates a fundamental breach. Such an object is embodied by the other characters, as well as by the refuge itself. Finally, the cut is associated with the subject and discourse as a closed structure. However, the question could also be seen from the point of view of the use of lalangue, which informs the real dimension of saying

Pathogenic, Molecular, and Immunological Properties of a Virus Associated with Sea Turtle Fibropapillomatosis. Phase II : Viral Pathogenesis and Development of Diagnostic Assays
Research conducted under this RWO from July 1, 1997 through June 30, 2000 has
provided important new information about the pathogenesis, virology, and
immunology of marine turtle fibropapillomatosis. In particular, we have provided
strong evidence for the association of a herpesvirus with fibropapillomatosis of the
green turtle,Chelonia mydas, and the loggerhead turtle, Caretta caretta, in Florida. In
addition we have provided new evidence for the absence of papillomaviruses from
sea turtle fibropapillomas. Although unsuccessful, important new attempts were made
to cultivate the FP-associated herpesvirus in vitro in collaboration with the National
Wildlife Health Center. During this period of time, we completed publication of the first
comprehensive description of the comparative pathology and pathogenesis of
experimentally induced and spontaneous fibropapillomas of green turtles (Chelonia
mydas). We initiated innovative studies on the persistence of a Chelonian
herpesviruses in the marine environment demonstrating for the first time that the
environmental survivability of Chelonian herpesviruses makes them real threats to
marine turtle health. Finally, we explored development of a serological assay for FP
using synthetic herpesvirus peptides and developed methodologies for detection of
antibodies to LETV [Iung-eye-trachea virus] a disease-associated herpesvirus of the
green turtle, Chelonia mydas.. This last initiative is ongoing and will further our efforts
to develop specific immunological assays for the FP-associated herpesvirus and FP. (17 page document
Gauge covariant fermion propagator in quenched, chirally-symmetric quantum electrodynamics
We discuss the chirally symmetric solution of the massless, quenched,
Dyson-Schwinger equation for the fermion propagator in three and four
dimensions. The solutions are manifestly gauge covariant. We consider a gauge
covariance constraint on the fermion--gauge-boson vertex, which motivates a
vertex Ansatz that both satisfies the Ward identity when the fermion self-mass
is zero and ensures gauge covariance of the fermion propagator.Comment: 11 pages. REVTEX 3.0. ANL-PHY-7711-TH-9

Pion structure function in nuclear medium
We study the pion structure function in nuclear medium using the Nambu and
Jona-Lasinio model, and its implication for the nuclear pion enhancement of the
sea quark distribution in nuclei. By using the operator product expansion,
medium effect of the nuclear matter is incorporated in calculations of the
twist-2 operators. We find density dependence of the pion structure function is
rather weak around the nuclear matter density. We also discuss how the medium
modification of the pion structure affects the sea quark enhancement in the
nucleus.Comment: 16 pages (LaTeX), 5 figures are available as uuencoded PS files upon

Electromagnetic Pion Form Factor and Neutral Pion Decay Width
The electromagnetic pion form factor, , is calculated for
spacelike- in impulse approximation using a confining quark propagator,
, and a dressed quark-photon vertex, , obtained from realistic,
nonperturbative Dyson-Schwinger equation studies. Good agreement with the
available data is obtained for and other pion observables,
including the decay . This calculation
suggests that soft, nonperturbative contributions dominate at
