ASSESSMENT OF THE “DISRUPT-O-METER” MODEL BY ORDINAL MULTICRITERIA METHODS

The objective of this article is to explore a potential diagnostic model, called “Disrupt-O-Meter”, about the Christensen’s disruptive innovation theory. The diagnostic model was analyzed under multi-criteria decision aid (MCDA) methods. This diagnosis presents a typical data structure of multi-criteria ordinal problems. Different alternatives were evaluated under a set of criteria, using a scale of ordinal preferences. The steps of a MCDA problem were followed. The chosen methods were the Borda, the Condorcet and the Probabilistic Composition of Preferences (CPP). This article used a database from other research, about 3D printing technology startups. The results showed the best discrimination power by the CPP method, revealing the business category with the most disruptive potential, among other alternatives

INDICADORES DE SUSTENTABILIDADE PARA A EDUCAÇÃO BÁSICA POR MODELAGEM FUZZY

A educação para o desenvolvimento sustentável representa uma oportunidade de transformação das sociedades. A preservação dos recursos naturais e produtivos para as gerações futuras pode ser potencializada através da educação básica. A Austrália utiliza um programa bem sucedido desde 2005, sendo utilizado como referência nessa pesquisa. O objetivo do trabalho é apresentar um conjunto de 16 indicadores de sustentabilidade para aplicação na rede de ensino básico do país, sendo distribuídos nas dimensões educacional, ambiental, social e econômica. Esses indicadores foram agregados por modelagem fuzzy, através do software MATLAB R2013a. Uma hipótese de trabalho foi formulada para ilustrar as etapas do processo de um sistema fuzzy. Duas análises de sensibilidade permitem avaliar o modelo quanto ao ponto de equilíbrio entre os resultados e quanto aos diferentes métodos de defuzzificaçãodo sistema. Os resultados do teste foram satisfatórios e indicam a possibilidade de prosseguimento das pesquisas para a coleta de dados em posterior pesquisa de campo

A PROPOSAL FOR THE APPLICATION OF MULTICRITERIA ANALYSIS TO RANK COUNTRIES ACCORDING TO INNOVATION USING THE INDICATORS PROVIDED BY THE WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ORGANIZATION

This article aims to analyze the ranking of Latin American and Caribbean countries in the ranking proposed by the World Intellectual Property Organization in relation to Global Innovation Index using the multicriteria approach as an instrument. The methodology used is the Technique of Ordination by Similarity with the Ideal Solution, in order to support the reduction of subjectivity to the decision making process of the global competitiveness models. It is based on literature research, through a review on the themes of innovation works, marking the condition of the local productive networks, focusing on the approach of the Porter’s Diamond proposal. The results of the application of the technique bring a new perspective to institutional methodology and allows to suggest new factors indicative that the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean need to develop their networks and creative policies in such a way that the promotion of technological innovation occurs quickly, so that innovation is transferred to society

Efficiency assessment of the Brazilian industry regarding their revenue generation and performance in safety and health management programs through DEA method / Avaliação da eficiência da indústria brasileira em relação à geração de receita e desempenho em programas de gestão de segurança e saúde através do método DEA

After the financial crisis in the 2000’s that was dispersed by the global economy have been exposed weaknesses in the countries’ economies, which in an abundance stage were not as noticeable. This has led several governments, including from developed countries (EU and USA) to promote new economic reforms to avoid and reduce the recession impacts such as unemployment, export incomes falling and decline of the economy as a whole. The reindustrialization movements have been the main tool of most of these proposals to economy reactivation, but it is not simply reactivating obsolete and unsafe industrial plants, unlike the reindustrialization is based on the idea of creating a new industrial structure with higher productivity on the one hand, but without loss due to occupational accidents and diseases that marked the ancient and primitive industrialization cycle worldwide. Thus, in this article it is used a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model as a tool in order to identify Brazilian industry’s benchmarks that would share best practices in terms of revenue generation as well on health and safety performance, to assure finally more competitiveness to Brazilian industry. The benchmarks identified by DEA model should be deeply studied hereafter to characterize which of their practices would be compatible with the new and desirable reindustrialization cycle to dynamize the Brazilian economy

Innovation as a Critical Success Factor: an Exploratory Study about the Partnership among University with Pharmaceutical Industry in Brazil

Interaction between universities and companies is common in Countries considered to be developed and innovative. In Brazil, this strategy is not widely used, although some relevant actions have produced good results in the pharmaceutical sector. The Brazilian Innovation Law, which is considered a milestone, created the Technology Innovation Centers (TICs) in universities, and is seen by the Ministry of Health in Brazil as having great strategic promise within the area of drugs and medicine. In this regard, this article seeks to present the findings of an exploratory research project investigating the participation of Brazilian universities in the formation of strategic partnerships focused on the development of drugs, after the advent of the Brazilian Innovation Law. An exploratory study was used as an instrument of methodological support, backed by a survey whose results allowed the authors to identify some significant reflections structured in the university-pharmaceutical industry-government approach

A BOW-TIE BASED RISK FRAMEWORK INTEGRATED WITH A BAYESIAN BELIEF NETWORK APPLIED TO THE PROBABILISTIC RISK ANALYSIS

The use of probabilistic risk analysis in the jet engines manufacturing process is essential to prevent failure. It has been observed in the literature about risk management that the standard risk assessment is normally inadequate to address the risks in this process. To remedy this problem, the methodology presented in this paper covers the construction of a probabilistic risk analysis model, based on Bayesian Belief Network coupled to a bow-tie diagram. It considers the effects of human, software and calibration reliability to identify critical risk factors in this process. The application of this methodology to a particular jet engine manufacturing process is presented to demonstrate the viability of the proposed approach

Decision Trees for the Prediction of Outcome of Soccer Games - Historical Data Analysis / Árvores de decisão para a previsão de resultados de Jogos de Futebol - Análise de Dados Históricos

This paper presents the design and results of the submission from the researchers from Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF) to the Machine Learning Soccer Prediction Challenge, organized by the Springer Machine Learning Journal. The steps of parsing of data, building of the model and choice of a Decision Tree for predicting the results from soccer matches are explained and discussed.This study also analyses the variation of the win percentage of home teams in different countries. Some possibilities to explain these variations, such as country size and training infrastructure are raised. The intention is to provide researchers in the field with insights for additional data that may help the prediction of games in regions with diverse patterns
