Physicochemical parameters and bioactive compounds of strawberry Ttee (Arbutus unedo L.) honey

Botanical origin, physicochemical properties (ash, colour, diastase activity, electrical conductivity (EC), hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), moisture, optical rotation (OP), pH, reducing sugars, total acidity, total soluble solids, and water activity), bioactive compounds (BC), and antioxidant activity obtained from strawberry tree honey from South Portugal were investigated. Results showed that the pollen analysis and physicochemical parameters were found within to meet international honey specifications. Significant differences (P < 0.05) in results of ash content, EC, HMF, OP and colour when were compared with analogous famous Italian honey (Sardinia island). For BC, total phenolic and total flavonoid content were 94.47mg gallic acid/100 g and 5.33 mg quercetin/100 g, respectively. Concerning Portuguese honey, it was also found that radical scavenging activity (DPPH assay) was 43.46% and antioxidant activity was 18.85 mg ascorbic acid equivalent/100 g and 9.92 mg quercetin equivalent/100 g. These results confirmed that Portuguese strawberry tree honey has the highest antioxidant activity, when compared with other kinds of honey. New trends in education: the use of ICT in different ways

In the 21st century and due to the exponential growth of the Internet and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), people live in a technological age, in all areas and in all contexts, we have daily contact with technology, with access to Information. This dynamic requires a constant update of the services and technological tools that change the method that we study, work, communicate and socialize on an unprecedented scale. These constant changes force everyone, regardless of age, gender or profession, to possess a range of functional and critical thinking skills, such as information literacy, media literacy and technological literacy. The evolution of technologies, forces the promoters of education, to always be aware of the changes that society is introducing outside the classroom. Today, students don't have the same pattern as before, regardless of age, they are very active and are no longer the same introverted child who studied a few years ago in the classroom. According to this, students are eager for different forms of motivation inside and outside the classroom, they need the learning and teaching process to move along with changes in society and ICT. To ensure the success of today's students, it is important to provide them with the technological skills to make the correct use of ICTs, to perform tasks essential to their learning process, such as researching and selecting information, creating content, information sharing, use of collaboration tools or environment simulation tools. The main objective of this chapter is to show how ICT tools that can be used in educational environments to help students, helping them develop key skills in their training process, is also relevant to show how these tools can help teachers achieve these goals in daily activities with their students

El juego como estrategia didáctica en la formación del profesorado en TIC y discapacidad

En los últimos años se ha avanzado bastante al analizar las TIC como instrumentos significativos que favorecen la inclusión de las personas con diferentes tipos de diversidad cognitivas, sensoriales, o motóricas. A pesar de que existen prácticas de calidad vinculadas al uso de las TIC y cada vez un mayor interés en el uso educativo de estas herramientas tecnológicas, sigue existiendo una gran preocupación por resolver las diferentes dificultades en competencia digital que presentan los docentes, y más aún en contextos de diversidad. Por tanto, el profesorado se configura como un elemento clave para lograr una plena inclusión de las TIC en las aulas. Realizar un diagnóstico en relación con la formación y conocimiento del profesorado de Educación Primaria, en activo, en relación con las TIC aplicadas a personas con diversidad funcional. Diseño de investigación de corte cualitativo, desarrollado desde el enfoque de la Grounded Theory. La información se ha obtenido a partir del análisis de 52 entrevistas realizadas a profesionales del sector educativo del estado español (miembros de equipos directivos, coordinadores TIC, directores y asesores tecnológicos de centros de formación). Cabe destacar que los participantes reconocen, de forma precisa, los beneficios que aportan estas herramientas tecnológicas al alumnado con diversidad funcional y el juego como herramienta didáctica. Se destaca la baja capacitación del profesorado para aplicar las TIC a las personas con discapacidad. El juego se presenta como una estrategia de primer orden para aplicación de las TIC al alumnado con discapacidad.The game as a didactic strategy in teacher training in ICT and disability. In recent years, considerable progress has been made in analyzing ICTs as significant instruments that favor the inclusion of people with different types of cognitive, sensory, or motor diversity. Although there are quality practices linked to the use of ICT and an increasing interest in the educational use of these technological tools, there is still a great concern to solve the different difficulties in digital competence that teachers present, and even more in contexts of diversity. Therefore, teachers are configured as a key element to achieve full inclusion of ICT in the classroom. To carry out a diagnosis in relation to the training and knowledge of Primary School teachers, in active employment, in relation to ICT applied to people with functional diversity. Qualitative research design, developed from the Grounded Theory approach. The information has been obtained from the analysis of 52 interviews conducted with professionals in the education sector of the Spanish state (members of management teams, ICT coordinators, directors and technological advisors of training centers). It should be noted that the participants accurately recognize the benefits that these technological tools bring to students with functional diversity and play as a teaching tool. The low training of teachers to apply ICT to people with disabilities stands out. The game is presented as a first order strategy for the application of ICT to students with disabilities

Como a adopção da capacidade de intervenção pelo1ºBI/BrigInt vai afectar o RI13 onde o mesmo está sedeado

No momento em que o Exército se prepara para fortalecer a capacidade de intervenção ao equipar os Batalhões da Brigada de Intervenção com Viaturas Blindadas de Rodas Pandur II 8x8, em que medida estarão os Regimentos preparados para receber e manter esta nova capacidade? É com base nesta transformação que o autor elaborou o presente trabalho. Este tem como objectivo averiguar como a adopção da capacidade de intervenção pelo 1ºBatalhão de Infantaria da Brigada de Intervenção vai afectar o Regimento de Infantaria Nº13 onde o mesmo está sedeado. Para esta investigação, utilizou como referência outras Unidades, equipadas com outro tipo de Viaturas Blindadas, que exibem infra-estruturas melhor preparadas para a utilização das mesmas. Observou as estruturas, rotinas e hábitos e tomou-os como referência para este trabalho. A análise feita pelo autor teve por base a observação, a análise de documentos elaborados pelas entidades competentes no Exército (responsáveis por projectos, construção de infraestruturas e manutenção das Pandur II) e entrevistas. A Unidade analisada foi criada e construída para albergar uma força com uma estrutura, missão e meios diferentes dos que actualmente tem. Desta forma, é necessário que esta sofra alterações e que usufrua de novas infra-estruturas essenciais para a manutenção e conservação dos novos meios. Neste trabalho, são identificadas pelo autor as principais lacunas e as respectivas alterações que devem ser feitas no Regimento de Infantaria Nº13, uma unidade dotada de condições e Militares capazes de cumprir a missão numa nova realidade, honrando o Exército Português e as Forças Armadas.As the Army is preparing to strengthen the intervention capacity by equipping the Intervention Brigade Batallions with armoured vehicles with Pandur II 8x8 wheels, how far are the Regiments prepared to obtain and maintain this new capacity? It is based on this transformation that the author has done the present scientific work. Its aim is to find out how far the adoption of the intervention capacity by the first Infantry Batallion of the Intervention Brigade will affect the Infantry Regiment number 13 where the same is located. For this investigation he has used as reference other Units equipped with another sort of armoured vehicles, which have better prepared infrastructures for the use of the same. He has observed the structures, the routines and habits and has taken them as reference for this scientific work. The analysis the author has done was based on the observation, the analysis of documents done by the Army competent entities (responsible for projects, construction of infrastructures and maintenance of the Pandur II) and interviews. The Unit which has been analysed was created and built to lodge a group with a different structure, a different mission and different equipments than those it has nowadays. Therefore it needs changes and new infrastructures which are essential for the maintenance and conservation of the new equipments. In this scientific work the author has identified the main omissions and the changes that must be done in the Infantry Regiment number 13, a Unit which has conditions and soldiers capable of fulfilling their mission in a new reality, honouring the Portuguese Army

Mestrado em Ciências ActuariaisEm Portugal o ramo de saúde tem crescido ano após ano, mesmo quando a economia está em recessão. O Instituto de Seguros de Portugal submeteu em 2010 um anteprojeto de Decreto-Lei a consulta pública, com vista à regulamentação de uma modalidade vitalícia neste ramo. Muito embora não haja ainda sido produzida legislação efetiva, interessa já às Seguradoras iniciar os estudos com vista à preparação de futuros produtos de saúde vitalícios. É objetivo do projeto construir uma tarifa para um plano desta modalidade, recorrendo à metodologia Bootstrap.In Portugal health insurance has grown year after year even when the economy is in a recession. Manual de Controlo Interno no Âmbito da Contratação Pública: Uma Proposta para a Direção de Navios

A contratação pública, enquanto universo de formação dos contratos públicos, ao ser abordada numa perspetiva adequada pode ser considerada como um mecanismo para alcançar um crescimento inteligente e sustentável e, para assegurar, simultaneamente, uma utilização eficiente dos fundos públicos. A aplicação de um Sistema de controlo interno, para além de ser um instrumento de auxílio na tomada de decisão, permite incrementar a eficácia e eficiência das operações, uma maior fiabilidade da informação financeira e a garantia do cumprimento dos diplomas legais que a estas se aplicam. Neste sentido, pelo facto de um valor considerável do Orçamento de Estado atribuído à Marinha estar alocado à atividade de manutenção, cuja entidade responsável é a Direção de Navios, é de todo o interesse criar ferramentas que permitam uma melhor gestão dos fundos públicos, bem como, garantir a máxima operacionalidade dos meios que concorrem para o cumprimento da missão da Marinha. O presente estudo tem como objetivos identificar quais os elementos relativos à formação e execução dos contratos públicos que podem ser melhorados de modo a incrementar o controlo interno no âmbito da atividade procedimental referente à aquisição, construção e reparação de meios navais e unidades de apoio à Marinha. De forma a alcançar este desiderato utilizou-se o método do ´estudo de caso´, servindo a Direção de Navios como unidade de estudo, conjugando diferentes técnicas de recolha de dados. Com este estudo conclui-se que é necessário incrementar o controlo interno nesta unidade. De modo a colmatar esta problemática, foi elaborado um manual de controlo interno que tem por principal finalidade garantir um elevado desempenho na área da contratação pública e a salvaguarda do interesse público, se implementado por esta unidade.Public procurement, as the universe of State awards, if adequately approached, can be considered as mechanism to achieve a smart and sustainable development ensuring, simultaneously, an efficiently use of public funds. Furthermore, the implementation of an internal control system, is not only a management tool, but it also allows the increase of operations effectiveness and efficiency, a higher reliability of the financial information, and, ensuring compliance with legal requirements. Considering the representativeness of the State budget assigned to Portuguese Navy maintenance activity, whose responsible is Direção de Navios, it is imperative creation of tools that could improve the management of public funds, and simultaneously granting maximum operability of the fleet therefore contributing to the fulfilment of the Navy mission. This research aims to identify the key-points, related to the formation and implementation of public procurement, which could be improved in order to enhance the internal control of the procedural activity. We have conducted a case study, using as the setting the Direção de Navios, an entity responsible to the acquisition, construction and repair of ships and support units of the Navy. Our main conclusion was that it is necessary to increase the internal control at Direção de Navios. Firstly, by implementation new control procedures, and, subsequently, in a long-term, through fostering a better relationship with suppliers. Gestão de recursos de rádio em redes WiFi

Mestrado em Engenharia Electrónica e TelecomunicaçõesPassive optical networks have been subject of research in recent years, standing out from the other distribution networks not only by the speed and distribution of multiple services, including video, data and voice, but also by the absence of active equipment between the central and terminal devices, not requiring the use of electricity. Also the progress made in mobile and "smart" equipment led to the increase of its popularity and personal use. The increase of mobile devices, as well as their features, were boosted by the evolution of WiFi technologies, mostly fueled by passive optical networks, favoring the connection of several devices through radio waves. There has been several improvements in wireless communications, especially in WiFi technology, in order to keep up with the speed increase in optical distribution networks. However the limitations in the frequency spectrum and the vast implementation of the technology itself became an obstacle to the development of WiFi networks. The main goal of this dissertation is the development of processes dedicated to the frequency spectrum management in WiFi networks within environments congestedbymultipleradiosignaltransmitters. Thisworkisdevelopedaround a gateway under development by Altice Labs combining optical network terminal and access point features, and presents a solution to the equipment transmission power management and the frequency channel selection.As redes ópticas passivas têm sido alvo de grande investigação nos últimos anosdestacando-sedasoutrasredesdedistribuiçãonãosópelavelocidadee distribuição de multiplos serviços, incluindo video, dados e voz, mas também pela ausência de equipamentos activos entre a central local e o equipamento terminal, não sendo necessário o uso de energia eléctrica. Também o avanço que se tem verificado no desenvolvimento de equipamentos móveis e "inteligentes" tem levado a sua popularidade e utilização a crescer de forma constante. Por sua vez, este aumento do número de dispositivos móveis, bem como das respectivas características, foi impulsionado pela evolução da tecnologia WiFi, em grande parte alimentada pelas redes ópticas passivas, facilitando a conexão de múltiplos dispositivos através de ondas de rádio. Têm sido várias as melhorias nas comunicações sem fios, especialmente na tecnologia WiFi, no sentido de acompanhar o aumento da velocidade das redes de distribuição ópticas. No entanto as limitações ao nível do espectro de frequência e a vasta implementação da própria tecnologia têm-se revelado obstáculos ao desenvolvimento das redes WiFi. Esta dissertação tem como objectivo o desenvolvimento de soluções para a gestão do espectro de frequência das rede WiFi em ambientes congestionados pela presença de múltiplos transmissores de sinal rádio. Este trabalho é desenvolvido sob um gateway em desenvolvimento pela Altice Labs que combina as funcionalidades de um terminal de redes ópticas e de um access point, e apresenta uma solução para a gestão da potência de transmissão do equipamento e para a escolha do canal de frequência a utilizar
