Effect of flavor-dependent partonic transverse momentum on the determination of the boson mass in hadronic collisions
Within the framework of transverse-momentum-dependent factorization, we
investigate for the first time the impact of a flavor-dependent intrinsic
transverse momentum of quarks on the production of bosons in
proton-proton collisions at = 7 TeV. We estimate the shift in the
extracted value of the boson mass induced by different choices of
flavor-dependent parameters for the intrinsic quark transverse momentum by
means of a template fit to the transverse-mass and the lepton
transverse-momentum distributions of the -decay products. We obtain MeV and MeV with a
statistical uncertainty of MeV. Our findings call for more detailed
investigations of flavor-dependent nonperturbative effects linked to the proton
structure at hadron colliders.Comment: 5 pages, 2 tables; revised version with new results with more

Role of gelatinases in pathological and physiological processes involving the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex
Dystrophin is a cytosolic protein belonging to a membrane-spanning glycoprotein complex, called dystrophin-glycoprotein complex (DGC), that is expressed in many tissues, especially in skeletal muscle and in the nervous system. The DGC connects the cytoskeleton with the extracellular matrix and, although none of the protein of the DGC displays kinase or phosphatase activity, it is involved in many signal transduction pathways. Mutations in some components of the DGC are linked to many forms of inherited muscular dystrophies. In particular, a mutation hitting the dystrophin gene, leading to a complete loss of the protein, provokes one of the most prominent muscular dystrophy, the Duchenne muscular dystrophy, which affects 1 out of 3500 newborn males. In these circumstances, it can be observed a dramatic alteration of the expression levels of a multitude of metalloproteinases (MMPs), a family of extracellular Zn2+-dependent endopeptidases, especially MMP-2 and MMP-9, also called gelatinases. However, the enzymatic activity of MMP-2 and MMP-9 on dystroglycan, an important member of the DGC, plays an important role also in physiological processes taking place in the central and peripheral nervous system. This mini-review discusses the role of MMP-2 and MMP-9, in physiological as well as pathological processes involving members of the DGC

Parallel paradigms for Data Stream Processing
The aim of this thesis is to address Data Stream Processing issues from the point of view of High Performance Computing. In particular our work focused on the definition of parallel paradigms for DaSP problems.
An implementation of a parallel scheme for the solution of the stream join problem is given along with the tests performed and their analysis
Morphological characterization of Amiata donkey through Multivariate analyses
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the morphology and biometrics of female Amiata donkeys reared in four different areas of southern Tuscany, Italy, to determine the differentiation degree of animals. Four southern Tuscan areas were investigated: two mountainous zones (East and West Amiata) and two flatter areas (Coastal area and Siena surrounding). Morphology and biometrics of adult female Amiata donkeys were collected to determine the homogeneity of the population. Primitive coat markings typical of the breed (shoulder and leg stripes) were found in Amiata donkey. Jennets from Siena surrounding were more dolichomorphic, while West Amiata individuals were smaller. The Principal Component Analysis and the Discriminant Analysis separated the Siena surrounding jennets from the other populations. This result was confirmed through the heatmap representation. The biometrics found in this research confirm that Amiata donkey is a small-medium sized breed suitable for different purposes

Productive performances of Maremmana young bulls reared following organic rules and slaughtered at 18 and 24 months of age
Fourteen Maremmana young bulls fed on pastures supplemented with mixed hay and concentrates, according to an organic method, were slaughtered at 18 and 24 months of age to evaluate in vita and post-mortem performances. At slaughter, carcass yield was determined and carcass evaluation according to EU rules wasmade. Physico-chemical characteristics of Longissimus thoracis (LT) and Caput longum triceps brachii (TB) muscles were determined. No differences for both carcass yield and quality were found between the two age groups. Animals of 24 months of age presented lighter and more yellow meat as well as higher hue angle and drip loss. TB muscle showed lower protein content and higher shear force, moisture, total lipids and ash than LT. The latter presented a higher percentage of C15iso, whereas TB showed higher values of C18:2n6, C20:3n6, C20:4n6, C18:3n3 and C22:5n3. Maremmana animals, irrespective of age, showed a low percentage of saturated fatty acids, good PUFA/SFA ratio and a great amount of unsaturated fatty acids of the n3 and n6 series, as well as a favorable atherogenicity and thrombogenicity indexes
