Purpose: Delivering a quality PE class where factors leading to negative experiences are eliminated and student attitude is kept positive plays a crucial role in their involvement of physical activity. The purpose of this study is to understand what kind of experiences and feelings students have lived through in the physical education classes in Turkey; and whether and how some of the identified factors in the literature- ability, gender and curriculum- and potential other factors interplay to one another. Method: The participants of the study were 196 student teachers of varying subject areas (receiving teaching certificate courses in the department of education) who were enrolled in a large-scale university located in one of the large metropolitan cities in Turkey. The study was in descriptive survey methodology; and the data were collected through semi-structured, open-ended questionnaire (n= 196) designed to understand the processes, experiences, the associated feelings in PE classes back in their high and/or middle school years as well as current state of PE classes.  Results: Inductive thematic analysis of the data revealed that the majority of the participants have negative experiences in PE classes in their middle school and high school years. The findings indicate that teaching style of the instructor, curriculum and school infrastructure were the main determinants of student attitude towards physical education classes. Conclusion: It seems that PE class experience is not a joy but a burden for the majority of the participants mostly due to certain external and manipulable conditions. Keywords: Physical education, gender-segregation, attitude towards PE, teaching style, PE curriculum development

This research was carried out in Ondokuz Mayıs University germination laboratory and research field in 2019 to determine the effects of acetic acid on the germination and sprout ability of seeds of Lara faba bean (Vicia faba L.). Two laboratory trials were established according to the randomized plot design with 3 replications, and one field trial was established according to the randomized block design with 12 replications. The research examined germination rate, germination power, sprouting rate and sprouting power were examined. The effect of soaking in distilled water or 4%25 acetic acid for half an hour on the germination and sprouting abilities of faba bean seeds was not found to be statistically different. However, it has been concluded that it is beneficial to investigate how it will affect oil-borne diseases and subsequent development

In this research, 2 different doses of acetic acid (AA%253A 4%25, 40%25) were treated the seed before sowing%253B 2 different doses of humic acid (HA1 %253A2 L da-1 , HA2 %253A6 L da-1) and nitrogen (N%253A 5 kg da-1) treatments to the plant in the field were carried out in Strip-Plots Design in Samsun ecological conditions to determine the effects of faba bean agro-morphological, seed quality and L-DOPA content in flowers. According to the findings obtained, ıt was determined that the seed treatment had a statistically significant effect on the number of branches, pods, biological yield, seed yield and flower yield, and the 4%25 AA treatment gave better results compared to the control. HA and N as plant treatments showed a statistically significant and negative effect on the number of pods, biological yield and seed yield. The statistical effects of the treatments on the L-DOPA transferred to the herbal tea obtained from the flower were not found significant. However, it was determined that the AA treatment to the seed increased the ratio of L-DOPA in flower compared to the control. Therewithal, when the ratio of flowers was increased from 100 mg to 200 mg while preparing tea, there was an increase in the ratio of L-DOPA transferred to the tea water

As noted by Pierre Nora (1989, p. 17), ‘no-one knows what the past will be made of next’. While this is indeed so, it is also the case that the past will surely be ‘made’ somehow. In this chapter, we take a look at those makings and the ubiquitous desire to recreate what once was that arguably undergirds almost any heritage practice

In the digital age, almost all video storage and delivery systems depend heavily on compression technology. Video compression standards have been used and improved since 90s. There are many standards that use motion compensation to reduce unnecessary data and compress video. This thesis proposes an improved compression technique based on both block matching compensation and SIFT. This new technique reveals an improved motion compensation (IMC) which is achieved by using invariant features. SIFT finds local invariant features in a given image. It has been used in many implementations in the literature. Hovewer, none of them used invariant features to obtain a better motion compensation. In this thesis, SIFT is used to detect rotated regions and obtain better reconstruction with higher PSNR than classical block matching. To achieve this, invariant features are found in adjacent frames and then feature keypoints are matched. In conventional BMA, each non-overlapping 16x16-pixels block in current frame is predicted from previous frame by finding the block that gives minimum SAD value. However, if an object rotates from previous frame to the current, BMA cannot achieve an accurate prediction. In this case, the algorithm implemented in this thesis comes up with more accurate results because SIFT keypoints are utilized to detect and correct rotation between frames in the implemented algorithm. The proposed algorithm is tested on both test frames and real video frames. PSNR results are given for comparison of the proposed algorithm with classical BMA. It is seen that the proposed algorithm, which is called IMC in this thesis, caused an improvement of almost ~1.4 dB for the reconstructed test frame. This improvement is approximately 0.5 dB for real video frames. PSNR values are calculated for whole images. To see the block improvements, SAD values of blocks for compared algorithms are exhibited. These improvements may also be visually observed in the given reconstructed frame pictures.Yüksek LisansM.Sc

The current study systematically reviews the Times Higher Education World University Ranking methodology and the 5-year performances of the top 10 Turkish universities in this ranking, covering the years 2018-2022. The methodology and indicators used in this ranking and the individual and average scores of the top 10 universities in the five-year period were examined. The findings indicate that both foundation and state universities are included in the rankings, but foundation universities have better maintained their positions over the years. A significant finding of the study is that education and research scores of those Turkish universities that are always in the top 10 are higher. Regarding citations, industry income and international outlook scores, high scores obtained in these categories seem to be insufficient to ensure permanence, although it positively affects university positions in the short run

This final chapter takes up these questions, mining some of our ethnographies for support. One of these is the basis for a short diversion to a Turkish coffeehouse in what used to be the edge of West Berlin. This is a marginal story that turns out to be central, allowing us to suggest that among the multiple Europes circulating and bickering in the air around us, there are still some others yet to be brought into sight. After this, we close the book with some practical comments about what, in this time of perceived crisis, should be done to re-orient ideas of the European past at the level of heritage practice

Irradiation has been accepted as an effective food safety method for various foods over 50 years. Gamma rays from radioactive isotopes of Cobalt 60 or Cesium 137 are used for food irradiation applications. The main concern about food irradiation is the detection of these irradiated foods and also loss of detection of irradiation through the storage period. Photo Stimulated Luminescence (PSL) is one of the physical techniques that can be used for irradiation detection. The aim of this study is to analyze the behavior of PSL signals of irradiated spices with respect to storage period, storage temperature, origin and type of samples

The thesis analyzes the circumstances by which the everyday is transformed into an object of art through the author's practice and art project ''Make My Day'' and cases studies of works from Tracey Emin, Sophie Calle and Rirklit Tiravanija, in order to identify the process of aestheticization of life, then how to exhibit a work of art that is produced by this process. Starting from cases studies from Tracey Emin's ''My Bed'' and Sophie Calle ''Double Game'' along with the work of the author, the thesis will analyze the process the aestheticization of everyday life on how the real life of the artists effects and empowers their works, proceed on to analyze how the act of living is offered as a medium to produce a work of art and why interactivity and the persona of the artist are fundamental for the aestheticization of the act of living. Identifying the process to aestheticize the everyday, the thesis will move on to research how an interactive work of art that derives from this process should be exhibited by analyzing the exhibited works from Sophie Calle's ''Take Care of Yourself'', Tracey Emin's ''Exorcism of the last painting I ever made'', Rirklit Tiravanija's ''Untitled (Free)'' and Batu Bozoglu's ''Make My Day'' to found out and propose in what conditions can an exhibition meet a satisfying result where the elements of interactivity, and social exchange that conveys the artist’s persona to the work can be reached, concluding by stating that open interactivity that permanently reflects the participant’s effects on the work and the presence of the artist in the exhibition space as the necessary needs of the situation
