Even if the BMX modality has been included in the schedule of the Olympic Games since Beijing 2008, there is a lack of scientific studies concerning this sport. According to the opinion of many trainers and experts, the start of the race is very important and both neuromuscular potential and sport technique are very relevant aspects of sport performance. The purpose of this study was to analyze the technique of three top young athletes of BMX during the starting gate in order to obtain relevant information to support their trainer’s decisions

Aproximación inicial al aspecto bioclimático del poblado de colonización de Vegaviana (Cáceres)

Vegaviana, besides being a model of the Spanish modern architecture, is the best known village designed by José Luis Fernández del Amo for the National Institute of Colonization (INC), among which can be fundamentally stood out due to its evident aesthetic and plastic quality. However, the design goes beyond the compositional values responding to criteria linked to location and climate, illustrating the environmental involvement of the architect. This new look fits in with the new research on architects of modernity as recognized as Le Corbusier who highlight the relationship of some of his works with the climate. Therefore, the main objective of this article is to analyze the possible adaptation of the houses in Vegaviana in relation to the climate, from the current bioclimatic point of view. The approach is based on the study of both the climate and the climograms of Olgyay and Givoni for the climatic data of the studied village, comparing the strategies obtained in the climograms with the architectural and constructive configuration of the dwellings type C, the most representative ones. It is expected to verify that the strategies obtained from the climograms of Olgyay and Givoni for the climatic data of the village can be reflected in the architectural and constructive configuration of the dwellings type C. It is expected to conclude that there was an environmental concern on the part of the architect embodied in the dwellings designs, linked to the concept of what we know nowadays as bioclimatic architecture.

ANALYSIS OF THE MUSCULAR INTERVENTION IN A BALLISTIC STRECHING EXERCISE BASED ON THE ANGULAR ACCELERATION AND EMG DATA

The aim of stretching exercises is to increase muscle-tendon flexibility which depends on neurogenic (stretch reflex), myogenic (viscoeiasticity of the musculo-tendinous structures) and joint constraints (Taylor et al. 1990; 1997). Among the other common techniques (passive, static and PNF) ballistic stretching is using the momentum of a moving body or a limb to force it beyond its normal range of motion. However, in spite of the exciting concerns of stretching neuromechanics, as well as, the overestimation of the role of connective tissue and the underestimation of the resistance of the muscles to stretch (Hutton, 1992), there is a lack of studies concerning the muscular activity in ballistic stretching. The main purpose of this study was to determine the intervention of the muscles quadriceps femoris (rectus femoris - vastus medialis) and biceps femoris and its relationship with the kinematics of the hip joint during a common ballistic stretching exercise

POSTURAL STABILITY IN PERSONS WITH CEREBRAL PALSY AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE PERfORMANCE IN VERTICAL JUMPING

    Get PDF
The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality of postural stability of persons affected by different symptoms of cerebral palsy, and, on the other hand, to determine its relationship with the level of the neuromuscular potential of the subjects, evaluated on the base of their performance in the two-legged countermovement jump. The obtained results confirmed, first, significant differences between the subjects affected by hemiplegia and those affected by tetraparesis concerning the quality of postural stability, and, second, that the higher capacity for neuromuscular activity of the lower extremities is correlated with more stable posture. In this way, muscle strength seems to be a limiting factor in standing posture

Vegaviana, built in Extremadura in the 50s by the architect José Luis Fernández del Amo, presents featuresthat would be considered sustainable today. Nowadays this would also encourage the Circular Economy (CE). Therefore, the main objective of this article is to know if the urban design of the Extremaduran colonization settlements, taking Vegaviana as a reference, presents characteristics that allow for a simple implementation the implementation of the CE at the macro level referred to the populations. An analysis of the most relevant literature in this field generates a compendium of strategies from which its compatibility with the Vegaviana project is analyzed. All this makes it possible to highlight the characteristics of the Vegaviana urbanism that could foster EC.Peer Reviewe

A modular low-complexity ECG delineation algorithm for real-time embedded systems

    Get PDF
This work presents a new modular and lowcomplexity algorithm for the delineation of the different ECG waves (QRS, P and T peaks, onsets and end). Involving a reduced number of operations per second and having a small memory footprint, this algorithm is intended to perform realtime delineation on resource-constrained embedded systems. The modular design allows the algorithm to automatically adjust the delineation quality in run time to a wide range of modes and sampling rates, from a Ultra-low power mode when no arrhythmia is detected, in which the ECG is sampled at low frequency, to a complete High-accuracy delineation mode in which the ECG is sampled at high frequency and all the ECG fiducial points are detected, in case of arrhythmia. The delineation algorithm has been adjusted using the QT database, providing very high sensitivity and positive predictivity, and validated with the MIT database. The errors in the delineation of all the fiducial points are below the tolerances given by the Common Standards for Electrocardiography (CSE) committee in the High-accuracy mode, except for the P wave onset, for which the algorithm is above the agreed tolerances by only a fraction of the sample duration. The computational load for the ultra-low-power 8-MHz TI MSP430 series microcontroller ranges from 0.2 to 8.5% according to the mode used

Orchestrating ubiquitous learning situations about Cultural Heritage with Casual Learn mobile application

Producción CientíficaCultural Heritage learners can highly benefit from ubiquitous learning approaches that connect in-classroom activities with active on-site learning opportunities. However, teachers face the problem that the current landscape of technological support for learning Cultural Heritage mostly consists of mobile applications for informal contexts, completely decoupled from curricular activities. This paper presents the results of an exploratory-sequential mixed-methods study that focuses on the feasibility, for non-technical expert teachers, of repurposing an existing mobile application in formal Cultural Heritage ubiquitous learning situations. Such feasibility is explored from the perspective of the orchestration metaphor. More specifically, we used the “5+3 aspects orchestration framework” to understand the orchestration challenges of four ubiquitous learning situations about Cultural Heritage carried out in two secondary schools. These situations involved five teachers and 139 students who used a mobile application called Casual Learn for several weeks. The results of the study suggest that, after a brief training, teachers can design, enact, and orchestrate ubiquitous learning situations that involve both in-classroom and out-classroom activities. The teachers were able to transfer to the students most of the orchestration load of out-classroom activities. The results also showed that the flow of learning artifacts and information between in- and out-classroom activities is a critical issue that needs to be addressed by developers of ubiquitous learning technological solutions.Junta de Castilla y Leon - Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional (project VA257P18)Agencia Estatal de Investigación - Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional (project TIN2017-85179-C3-2-R

Defining the importance of landscape metrics for large branchiopod biodiversity and conservation: the case of the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Islands

    Get PDF
The deficiency in the distributional data of invertebrate taxa is one of the major impediments acting on the bias towards the low awareness of its conservation status. The present study sets a basic framework to understand the large branchiopods distribution in the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Islands. Since the extensive surveys performed in the late 1980s, no more studies existed updating the information for the whole studied area. The present study fills the gap, gathering together all available information on large branchiopods distribution since 1995, and analysing the effect of human population density and several landscape characteristics on their distribution, taking into consideration different spatial scales (100 m, 1 km and 10 km). In overall, 28 large branchiopod taxa (17 anostracans, 7 notostracans and 4 spinicaudatans) are known to occur in the area. Approximately 30% of the sites hosted multiple species, with a maximum of 6 species. Significant positive co-occurring species pairs were found clustered together, forming 4 different associations of large branchiopod species. In general, species clustered in the same group showed similar responses to analysed landscape characteristics, usually showing a better fit at higher spatial scales.Brazilian Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cientifico e Tecnologico-CNPq [401045/2014-5]Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport [FPU014/06783]info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
