The exemplars of the genus Camelobaetidius Demoulin, 1966 are common in lotic habitats, where the nymphs can be found above rocks, or on fallen trunks in areas of current. They posses a Pan American distribution, from Argentina to Canada. They are considered the sister group of the genus Corinnella Thomas & Dominique, 2006. The genus consists of 44 species, 25 of them are described based only on nymphs, five based on adults, 13 based on nymphs and male imago, and one based on nymph and femele imago. Many species have large area of distribution, with location and longitudinal variation in characters historically considered important for the taxonomy of Baetidae. The genus consists of three morphotypes, which were never tested by phylogenetic analyzes, based on a scientific method, to test if these morphotypes are related, as well as was also never tested the proposal that Dactylobaetis Traver & Edmunds, 1968 was a junior synonym of Camelobaetidius. The aim of this study were: adapt/redescribe descriptions of some species of Camelobaetidius; describe unknown stages of previously known species; inventory the species of Camelobaetidius from different areas of Brazil; present a hypotheses of phylogenetic relationship between species of Camelobaetidius; test the monophyly of the genus based on formal phylogenetic analysis; and develop an identification key to the nymphs of the genus. In this study, the genus Camelobaetidius was considered paraphyletic; was proposed the description of two new genera; where described seven species of Camelobaetidius and one new species of Corinnella; was tested the genetic variability of Camelobaetidius billi based on Cytochrome Oxidase (COI) mitochondrial gene; two adults of the genus Camelobaetidius where described; has been updated the distribution record of the genus; was adequated a methodology for transport and rearing nymhps of Baetidae, and proposed a key to the species of genus Corinnella, New Genus B and Camelobaetidius.O exemplares do gênero Camelobaetidius Demoulin, 1966 são comuns em habitat de corredeiras, as ninfas podem ser encontradas sobre pedras ou em troncos caídos em regiões com corredeiras.

Floristic diversity in areas of sandy soil grasslands in Southwestern Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

    Get PDF
Extensive natural grasslands areas in southwestern Rio Grande do Sul occur on sandy soils, which are susceptible to the sandy patch process. This process leads to the formation of large sandy patches, which constitutes a large-scale environmental problem. In grassland areas undergoing sandy patch processes in Alegrete, Manoel Viana and São Francisco de Assis municipalities, we recorded the occurrence of 343 species, 195 genera and 52 botanical families, with two new records for Rio Grande do Sul State (Eragrostis articulata (Schrank) Nees and Eragrostis leucosticta Nees ex Döll) and one for Brazil (Croton lorentzii Müll. Arg. ex Griseb.). The families with higher specific richness were Asteraceae, Poaceae, Fabaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Cyperaceae, Rubiaceae and Myrtaceae. From the whole species set, 19 species show a restricted distribution area, seven of these are exclusive to Rio Grande do Sul’s grasslands and 16 are considered as extinction threatened.

A novel concept-level approach for ultra-concise opinion summarization

    Get PDF
The Web 2.0 has resulted in a shift as to how users consume and interact with the information, and has introduced a wide range of new textual genres, such as reviews or microblogs, through which users communicate, exchange, and share opinions. The exploitation of all this user-generated content is of great value both for users and companies, in order to assist them in their decision-making processes. Given this context, the analysis and development of automatic methods that can help manage online information in a quicker manner are needed. Therefore, this article proposes and evaluates a novel concept-level approach for ultra-concise opinion abstractive summarization. Our approach is characterized by the integration of syntactic sentence simplification, sentence regeneration and internal concept representation into the summarization process, thus being able to generate abstractive summaries, which is one the most challenging issues for this task. In order to be able to analyze different settings for our approach, the use of the sentence regeneration module was made optional, leading to two different versions of the system (one with sentence regeneration and one without). For testing them, a corpus of 400 English texts, gathered from reviews and tweets belonging to two different domains, was used. Although both versions were shown to be reliable methods for generating this type of summaries, the results obtained indicate that the version without sentence regeneration yielded to better results, improving the results of a number of state-of-the-art systems by 9%, whereas the version with sentence regeneration proved to be more robust to noisy data. This research work has been partially funded by the University of Alicante, Generalitat Valenciana, Spanish Government and the European Commission through the projects, “Tratamiento inteligente de la información para la ayuda a la toma de decisiones” (GRE12-44), “Explotación y tratamiento de la información disponible en Internet para la anotación y generación de textos adaptados al usuario” (GRE13-15), DIIM2.0 (PROMETEOII/2014/001), ATTOS (TIN2012-38536-C03-03), LEGOLANG-UAGE (TIN2012-31224), SAM (FP7-611312), and FIRST (FP7-287607)

Updating the geographic records of social wasps (Vespidae: Polistinae) in Roraima state

    Get PDF
The Roraima state in Brazil is part of Northern Amazon, an area harboring high biodiversity and high degree of endemism. Nevertheless, there are few studies on diversity of social wasps occurring in this region. This study presents a list of social wasps (Vespidae: Polistinae) collected actively and using Malaise, Suspended and Light trap in six localities in Roraima state. A total of 85 species of 14 genera were collected. Fourty-five of these species are new distribution records to Roraima state, some species are not common found in the collections and lists of species, and some are recorded for the second time to Brazil or the Amazon region. This increase may be an indication that the Polistinae richness is probably higher in the regions studied and that Roraima may well contain a number of additional (as yet unrecorded) social wasp species. More comprehensive studies are needed in order to increase the knowledge of wasp species in Roraima, contributing to increased knowledge of the diversity in Northern Brazil

Tortopus Needham & Murphy and Tortopsis Molineri (Ephemeroptera, Polymitarcyidae) new species and new records from Brazil and Ecuador. Tortopus Needham & Murphy, 1924 and Tortopsis Molineri, 2010 with six and 10 species, respectively, are sister genera distributed in the Neartic and Neotropical regions. In spite that most species are known from the tropics of South America, only one species of each of these groups have been recorded from Brazil. Here we present distributional data expanding greatly the range of these groups including three new country records for Brazil: Tortopus igaranus Needham & Murphy, 1924, Tortopsis limoncocha Molineri, 2010 and Tortopsis spatula Molineri, 2010. We describe a distinct new species, Tortopus ipixuna sp. nov., from male imagos, that present a unique subrectangular pedestal. Additionally we redescribe the male imago of Tortopus harrisi Traver, 1950 (previously known only from the holotype), and we give the first records for Tortopsis canum Gonçalves, Da-Silva & Nessimian, 2011 from Espírito Santo and for Tortopsis spatula from Ecuador. Some variations in morphological structures of these species are also described, illustrated and discussed
