    The Bell Beaker phenomenon is the sum of several regional answers. Those are diluted into a reality with several shared characteristics. Nevertheless, and although being one of the most studied expressions of the European Recent Prehistory, more specific adaptations are still to be understood. This is the case of the paired fingernail imprints, or pinched motifs, that due to their scarceness are mostly unnoticed in Iberia. However, one was able to highpoint a scarceness of these standardised motifs in funerary contexts and a concentration in contexts dated from the last quarter of the IIIrd millennium BC, in the precise period of transition in the way of life of the peninsular human groups. Also, the regression in the communicative ability of the vessels, but at the same time dear links with other European Bell Beaker contexts seems to strengthen the hypothesis that this large-scale style must be understood as another agent in the ongoing identarian and social processes acting, as such, in the transition to the beginning of the Peninsular Bronze Age.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    OPTIMAL SHARING OF SURGICAL COSTS IN THE PRESENCE OF QUEUES

    We deal with a cost allocation problem arising from sharing a medical service in the presence of queues. We use a standard queuing theory model in a context with several medical procedures, a certain demand of treatment and a maximum average waiting time guarantee set by the government. We show that sharing the use of an operating theatre to treat the patients of the different procedures, leads to a cost reduction. Then, we compute an optimal fee per procedure for the use of the operating theatre, based on the Shapley value. Afterwards, considering the post-operative time, we characterize the conditions under which this cooperation among treatments has a positive impact on the average post-operative costs. Finally, we provide a numerical example constructed on the basis of real data, to highlight the main features of our model.Surgical Waiting Lists; Queueing Theory; Cost-Sharing Game.

Se sintetizan en este texto las metodologías y fuentes seguidas que configuran una filosofía híbrida donde se entremezclan el constructivismo social, el objetivismo e incluso el materialismo filosófico. Lupo es pensar y hacer, es learning by doing, es teoría y práctica, es pensar con las manos. Una experiencia pedagógica activa basada en el acto constructivo y mental, donde los bloques de construcción de diferentes materiales y tamaños constituyen una herramienta fundamental sobre la que tejer una red de conocimientos y experiencias que nos hacen viajar desde el objeto a la ciudad, desde la vanguardia a la tradición, desde lo abstracto a lo figurativoSistema Lupo is a didactic method born from architecture.     Attention mechanisms in deep learning models for Twitter sentiment analysis

    Sentiment Analysis on social media such as Twitter can provide us with valuable information about the users’ opinions. The singularities of these data lie in their short format and informal language. In the last years, Deep Learning models like Recurrent Neural Networks and Convolutional Neural Networks have been widely studied for this task reaching promising results when combined with word embedding mechanisms. In this master thesis, we go through the bases of Sentiment Analysis and Deep Neural Networks and then some Deep Learning models are presented. Pursuing improving the performance of these models, attention mechanisms like Self Attention of Transformer Encoder are presented and included in the models. The same dataset is used to train all the presented models in order to evaluate them and analyze the impact of including attention mechanisms on Deep Neural Networks in a Sentiment Analysis task

    Bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity from Alaria esculenta cultivated on long-lines in Bantry Bay: effect of cultivation and processing method

    The demand for seaweed-based products for food, pharmaceuticals and fish and cattle feed has been rising with a significant expansion of the global seaweed cultivation industry. The growing demand is driven for contaminant-free seaweed and by the commercial sector requiring seaweed-derived products for biotechnological and medical applications in countries with little traditional interest in seaweed aquaculture. Brown macroalgae contain a wide variety of bioactive compounds beneficial to health with therapeutic properties such as anticancer, anti-obesity, antidiabetic, antiviral or antibacterial activity. However, these compounds can show seasonal variations and its amount can also be affected by the extraction, isolation, and biomass processing methods used. This work aims to extract, produce fractions enriched in the compounds of interest, characterize, and analyse the antioxidant activity of extracts rich in fucoxanthin and phlorotannins, determining the effect of the drying method (oven and freeze-drying), the deployment date and the sampling date on these bioactive compounds. To achieve this, Alaria esculenta, a winter and fast-growing species, was cultivated on long-lines in Bantry Bay, Ireland. Biomass yield was calculated to assess seaweed growth and the characterization and quantification of fucoxanthin and phlorotannins was performed using Ultra-High-Performance Liquid Chromatography, followed by DPPH scavenging capacity in order to assess the antioxidant activity of the extracts. The results demonstrate that the bioactive compounds concentration is dependent on the deployment and sampling dates and that these compounds have a strong relationship with the antioxidant activity of the extracts. However, no significant differences were found when applying the two drying methods: oven-drying and freeze-drying. We have concluded that a later deployment (December) will produce a higher biomass yield in less time, with levels of fucoxanthin and phlorotannins peaking on May 5th, probably related with the presence of epiphytes and grazers. However, high variability was observed, suggesting that further studies need to be carried out to improve the sampling method.A procura por produtos à base de macroalgas para alimentação humana, desenvolvimento de produtos farmacêuticos e/ou rações para animais tem aumentado causando uma expansão significativa da indústria global de cultivo de algas marinhas. A crescente demanda exige algas livres de contaminantes e é impulsionada por um setor comercial que exige produtos derivados de algas marinhas para aplicações biotecnológicas e médicas em países com pouco interesse ou tradição na aquicultura das macroalgas. As macroalgas castanhas contêm uma grande variedade de compostos bioativos benéficos para a saúde com propriedades terapêuticas, como anticancerígenos, anti-obesidade, antidiabética, antiviral ou antibacteriana. No entanto, esses compostos podem apresentar variações sazonais e sua quantidade também pode ser afetada pelos métodos de extração, isolamento e processamento de biomassa utilizados. Assim, este trabalho tem como objetivo a produção de frações enriquecidas em compostos de interesse como a fucoxantina e os florotaninos, sua caracterização, e análise da atividade antioxidante dos extratos preparados, determinando o efeito do método de secagem (estufa e liofilização), assim como a data de inicio de cultivo e de colheita. A espécie emestudo, Alaria esculenta é uma espécie de inverno e de crescimento rápido, e foi cultivada em cordas em Bantry Bay, na Irlanda. O rendimento de biomassa foi calculado para avaliar o crescimento das algas e a caracterização e quantificação da fucoxantina e dos florotaninos foi realizada por Cromatografia Líquida de Alta eficiência, seguida da determinação da sua atividade antioxidante (métodod do DPPH). Os resultados demonstram que a concentração dos compostos bioativos é dependente das datas de cultivo e amostragem e que esses compostos possuem forte relação com a atividade antioxidante dos extratos. Não foram encontradas diferenças significativas ao aplicar os dois métodos de secagem: estufa e liofilização. Assim, os resultados sugerem que um inicio de ciclo de cultivo em dezembro produzirá maior rendimento de biomassa em menos tempo, apresentando níveis de fucoxantina e florotaninos com valores máximos a 5 de maio, estando estes provavelmente relacionados com a presença de organismos epifíticos e grazers.     RESUMEN Utilizando una base de datos para las áreas metropolitanas de León, Guanajuato y Monterrey, que captura hábitos personales y datos sociodemográficos, así como el número de veces que el entrevistado fue víctima de un delito, encontramos que existen correlaciones inversas entre estar casado y asistir a servicios religiosos con la probabilidad de sufrir delitos, como el asalto a transeúntes. Así mismo, nuestras estimaciones indican que es más probable que una persona casada o religiosa sufra un intento de robo a su vehículo. Una implicación política de este ejercicio es que tomar alcohol no sólo es nocivo para la salud, sino también para la seguridad personal. ABSTRACT We use a database for the metropolitan areas of León, Guanajuato, and Monterrey containing personal habits, sociodemografic characteristics, and the number of times the interviewee was a victim of a crime. We find inverse correlations between being married or attending religious services, and the probability of being a victim of particular offenses such as muggings. Our estimations also indicate that it is more probable that married or religious people suffer attempted car robbery. One implication from this exercise is that drinking alcohol is not just bad for one’s health; it is also bad for one’s personal safety
