A numerical flow simulation of a mixed flow pump
Mixed flow pumps are primarily axial flow pumps, but they impart some degree of radial and swirling momentum to the pump fluid as it passes through the rotor section. They are popular for pumping water in tight spaces, so are used for residential wells, municipal water works, industrial applications, and even for powering small water craft
A numerical and experimental analysis of flow in a centrifugal pump
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis has been used to solve the unsteady three-dimensional viscous flow in the entire impeller and volute casing of a centrifugal pump. The results of the calculations are used to predict the impeller/volute interaction and to obtain the unsteady pressure distribution in the impeller and volute casing. The calculated unsteady pressure distribution is used to determine the unsteady blade loading. The calculations at the design point and at two off-design points are carried out with a multiple frame of reference and a sliding mesh technique is applied to consider the impeller/volute interaction
Ironwork of Teixois-Taramundi (Asturias) Spain
This paper describes an old ironwork placed in a Spanish village. All parts of it are studied, specially the Air supply and the Hydraulic wheel. The minimum area in the water trump for a correct air flow is calculated. On the other hand, also the power supply by the hydraulic wheel, in normal conditions, to move the hammer with a required frequency is calculated
Energy harvesting from vehicular traffic over speed bumps: A review
Energy used by vehicles to slow down in areas of limited speed is wasted. A traffic energy-harvesting device (TEHD) is capable of harvesting vehicle energy when passing over a speed bump. This paper presents a classification of the different technologies used in the existing TEHDs. Moreover, an estimation of the energy that could be harvested with the different technologies and their cost has been elaborated. The energy recovered with these devices could be used for marking and lighting of roads in urban areas, making transportation infrastructures more sustainable and environmentally friendly
Diseno de una bomba centrifuga : analisis numerico y experimental
This paper describes the use of a rotating all mirror image derotator system in collaboration with Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) to visualise and quantitatively examine the flow patterns between the blades of a centrifugal impeller. Velocity contours and vector maps of the relative flow field within a blade passage are presented for an impeller speed of 350 rpm and a flow rate of 510 l/h. The data are compared with the results of a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model
Estudio numerico de las condiciones de estabilidad de estructuras bidimensionales bajo carga aerodinamica
An investigation on the stability conditions of the catenary wire system for a wide of wind relative direction is presented. The analysis was made with numerical methods by means of the Fluent software. The calculated lift forces were introduced in the equation of motion of the cylinders and stability conditions for the coupled system flow-structure were obtained
Analisis numerico de una bomba semiaxial
This spanish language paper presents the three-dimensional turbulent flow through the impeller passages and surroundings of a mixed-flow pump. The model has five impeller blades mounted on a conical hub and nine stator blades in a diffuser which brings the diagonally outward flow back to the axial direction. This pump was tested with air, giving a nominal flow-rate of 1.01 m3/s and 250 Pa at 1200 rpm

Tuning the carrier injection barrier of hybrid metal–organic interfaces on rare earth-gold surface compounds
Magnetic hybrid metal-organic interfaces possess a great potential in areas such as organic spintronics and quantum information processing. However, tuning their carrier injection barriers on-demand is fundamental for the implementation in technological devices. We have prepared hybrid metal-organic interfaces by the adsorption of copper phthalocyanine CuPc on REAu2 surfaces (RE = Gd, Ho and Yb) and studied their growth, electrostatics and electronic structure. CuPc exhibits a long-range commensurability and a vacuum level pinning of the molecular energy levels. We observe a significant effect of the RE valence of the substrate on the carrier injection barrier of the hybrid metal-organic interface. CuPc adsorbed on trivalent RE-based surfaces (HoAu2 and GdAu2) exhibits molecular level energies that may allow injection carriers significantly closer to an ambipolar injection behavior than in the divalent case (YbAu2)
