AbstractIn this article we approach the flavor and taste of food as important facets of human perception of the world and of cultural appropriation. The universality of the sensory physiological traits in relation to the flavors and the widespread taste preference for sweet and aversion for bitter, act as a support on which the various human groups have culturally constructed classifications, expressions and related meanings of food and its flavors. This paper deals with an anthropological approach to the phenomenon of flavor and an ethnographic case study on food in the Raramuri culture of the Sierra Tarahumara, Mexico
a compartir recursos heterogéneos a gran escala.
intensiva.
laborales basados en la tecnología Grid.SUMMARY -- Grids are highly distributed and heterogeneous
systems based on the resource sharing world-wide.
As a result, their implantation costs are high as
well as the experience needed to their maintenance.
Those facts makes them unfeasible in educational
contexts. Many Universities have their own Grid or
access to an external one to make research and intensive
computation. However, they are not usually
available for educational objectives. Consequently,
student knowledge of this technology is limited
to theoretical concepts or, in the best scenario, to
some executions and monitoring commands to see
its functionality.
This article proposes the use of virtualization as a
possible solution to create a functional Grid, which
can be used on a single computer, avoiding the economic
and management requirements of a real Grid.
The main objective of this framework is to introduce
students to Grid technology from a practical point
of view, letting them interact with a real-appearance
Grid, giving them the education and basic experience
required to work in real Grid environments.Peer Reviewe
Network-aware heuristics for inter-domain meta-scheduling in Grids
AbstractGrid computing generally involves the aggregation of geographically distributed resources in the context of a particular application. As such resources can exist within different administrative domains, requirements on the communication network must also be taken into account when performing meta-scheduling, migration or monitoring of jobs. Similarly, coordinating efficient interaction between different domains should also be considered when performing such meta-scheduling of jobs. A strategy to perform peer-to-peer-inspired meta-scheduling in Grids is presented. This strategy has three main goals: (1) it takes the network characteristics into account when performing meta-scheduling; (2) communication and query referral between domains is considered, so that efficient meta-scheduling can be performed; and (3) the strategy demonstrates scalability, making it suitable for many scientific applications that require resources on a large scale. Simulation results are presented that demonstrate the usefulness of this approach, and it is compared with other proposals from literature
QoS Provisioning by Meta-Scheduling in Advance within SLA-Based Grid Environments
The establishment of agreements between users and the entities which manage the Grid resources is still a challenging task. On the one hand, an entity in charge of dealing with the communication with the users is needed, with the aim of signing resource usage contracts and also implementing some renegotiation techniques, among others. On the other hand, some mechanisms should be implemented which decide if the QoS requested could be achieved and, in such case, ensuring that the QoS agreement is provided. One way of increasing the probability of achieving the agreed QoS is by performing meta-scheduling of jobs in advance, that is, jobs are scheduled some time before they are actually executed. In this way, it becomes more likely that the appropriate resources are available to run the jobs when needed. So, this paper presents a framework built on top of Globus and the GridWay meta-scheduler to provide QoS by means of performing meta-scheduling in advance. Thanks to this, QoS requirements of jobs are met (i.e. jobs are finished within a deadline). Apart from that, the mechanisms needed to manage the communication between the users and the system are presented and implemented through SLA contracts based on the WS-Agreement specification
In this research, a technique was defined for the hexavalent Chromium in aqueous solution with
Muse cavendishii (banana peel), in the laboratories of the faculty of Sciences at Escuela
Superior Politecnica de Chimborazo, for which it was needed like technical factors, two
Erlenmeyer flasks 1000 ml, four glass beakers of 250 ml, pipettes, balance, constant stirrer, UVVisible
spectrophotometer and as main factors; Muse cavendishii and hexavalent Chromium,
where the absorptive capacity that presents the biomass to remove hexavalent chromium was
analyzed, which was subjected to a wash with demineralized water and constant stirring for 72
hours to later move to the bacteriological heater where it dried up for 24 hours to 120 ºC, and
subsequently, in the four flasks containing the aqueous solution of hexavalent chromium at
different pH, adjusting the conditions with nitric acid (HNO3
) for acid pH and sodium
hydroxide (Na(OH)) for basic pH, it was added in the first two flasks a concentration of 2.5 g of
biomass and in the two remaining a concentration of 5g of biomass, which were stored in two
bacteriological heaters to different temperatures (28 ºC and 60ºC) and they were analyzed to
different times (0min, 60min, 120min, 180min) to determine the concentration of the metal in
study by the method with Diphenylcarbazide. Obtaining the best result of removal metal in the
conditions of; 180 min, to acid pH (1.0) and 28ºC with a value of 5g of biomass. Concluding
that biomass study (Musa cavendishii) presented high removal capacity for hexavalent
chromium, so it is recommended the application of this economical, easy and efficient
technique, available to small and large companies of leather tanning galvanized, chemical
producers, manufacturing of chrome, among others, to remove the hexavalent chromium from
waste waters before its final discharge in the natural water sources (rivers) closest to its place

Mountain strongholds for woody angiosperms during the Late Pleistocene in SE Iberia
Mediterranean mountains played an essential role during glacial periods as vegetation refugia. The SE Iberia Late Pleistocene woody angiosperm fossil and floristic evidences are reviewed in the context of phylogeographical studies aiming to identify (i) spatial patterns related to woody angiosperms glacial survival, (ii) structural and functional characteristics of montane refugia, and (iii) gaps in knowledge on the woody angiosperm patterns of survival in Mediterranean mountains. The distribution of palaeobotanical data for SE Iberia refugia has been found to be taphonomically biased due to the scarcity of available and/or studied high-altitude Late Pleistocene sites. However, Siles Lake data together with floristic inference provide evidences for woody angiosperms’ survival in a high-altitude Mediterranean area. The main features boosting survival at montane contexts are physiographic complexity and water availability. Phylogeography studies have mainly been conducted at a continental scale. Although they cohere with palaeobotanical data to a broad scale, a general lack of sampling of SE Iberian range-edge populations, as well as misconceptions about the origin of the populations sampled, impede to infer the proper location of woody angiosperms’ mountain refugia and their importance in the post-glacial European colonisation. We conclude that floristic, geobotanical, palaeobotanical, ethnographical and genetic evidence should be merged to gain a deeper understanding on the role played by Mediterranean mountains as glacial refugia in order to explain the current distribution of many plants and the large biodiversity levels encountered in Mediterranean mountain areas. This is hallmark for effective and efficient conservation and management
