INCOIS has deployed more than 400 Argo floats till now and soon reaching a special milestone of 500 Indian Argo floats. In this context there is a necessity to have a unique application by which scientists can effectively and efficiently track all the information of these floats and also monitor the active floats among them regularly. The present work describes about an Android application or app which eases the work of researchers to track the information of these Argo floats as well as monitor them regularly. This app is designed and developed to give all the information related to Argo floats like its various types, its deployed positions, its current positions, its functionality, search option, etc., in the form of maps and charts in turn uses real time data to give latest status of Argo floats. In addition to it, this app is also useful in advising the scientists involved in Argo program about the floats in danger of getting grounded or beached that need immediate attention. This app is a very useful tool for the scientists to check the current status of Argo floats from anywhere or anytime using a smart phone

Introduction: Epidurally administered local anaesthetics provide most effective analgesia during labour process. Among the available local anaesthetics, bupivacaine and ropivacaine are the most commonly used drugs in concentrations ranging from 0.0625% to 0.125% and 0.08% to 0.125%, respectively. Both these drugs are weak bases, highly protein-bound, highly lipid soluble, and have a pKa of 8.1, low unionised fraction, thus, having a slightly longer time for onset of action but with a longer duration of action and have less transfer across the placenta. Hence, they are ideal drugs for use in labour analgesia. Aim: To compare the effectiveness of programmed intermittent bolus of 0.125% bupivacaine vs 0.125% ropivacaine in low volumes in full term primigravidas for epidural labour analgesia. Materials and Methods: This randomised clinical study was conducetd at PES Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh, India, between June 2020 and December 2021 among 80 full-term primi parturients requiring normal vaginal delivery. They were randomly divided into two groups of 40 each. Group B received 10 mL of 0.125% bupivacaine and group R received 10 mL of 0.125% ropivacaine as initial bolus dose. Repeat doses of 5 mL was given every 60 minutes or when the patient had Visual Analogue Score (VAS) score >4 with a maximum dose of 10 mL/hr with a 20 minute interval between two doses. Parameters assessed were onset, duration, level and quality of analgesia, motor blockade, number of epidural top ups, total volume of drug consumed, mode of delivery, duration of labour, APGAR score, haemodynamics, patient satisfaction and complications. Data was entered in Microsoft Excel 2010 version and analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0. Results: Both drugs were equally effective in terms of analgesia, maternal and foetal outcomes. Bupivacaine had a faster onset of action (7.075±0.916 min) compared to ropivacaine (8.225±0.891 min) (p-value=0.001). Ropivacaine had a shorter duration of action (43.1±2.30 min vs 47.9±4.16 min in group B) (p-value=0.0001), requiring more top-up doses (5.2±0.46 vs 4.77±0.61 in group B) (p-value=0.0007), and more total volume of drug (38.5±3.08 mL vs 35.5±4 mL in group B) (p-value=0.002). It also caused lesser motor blockade (Bromage score of 1 in 1 parturient vs 8 parturients in group B) (p-value=0.0129) and better overall maternal satisfaction score (excellent) in 30 parturients vs 25 parturients in group B. APGAR scores at 1 minute and 5 minutes were comparable between the two groups. Mean heart rates, mean blood pressures were also comparable between the two groups. There were no significant adverse effects in either groups. Conclusion: By providing minimal motor blockade and adequate analgesia 0.125% ropivacaine allows parturients to go through the labour process with excellent maternal satisfaction and minimal adverse effects compared to 0.125% bupivacaine

RIFAMPICIN: ANTI TUBERCULAR DRUG: AN OVERVIEW

The World Health Organization inspires the use of fixed dose combination (FDC) of rifampicin combination used with isoniazid, isoniazid with pyrazinamide or pyrazinamide with ethambutol for the treatment of tuberculosis. Hence, it’s used worldwide for reducing the risk of emerging drug resistance. Rifampicin is one of the potent and broad spectrum antibiotics against bacterial pathogen. It works by inhibits the DNA dependent RNA polymerase activity by forming stable complex with enzyme. Here, the polymorphic form of rifampicin is describe by thermal study of rifampicin. The thermal behavior of two polymorphic forms of rifampicin was studied by DSC, FTIR, TGA, PXRD. The thermoanalytical results clearly showed the differences between the two crystalline forms. Polymorph I was the most thermally stable form and polymorph II was meta stable. On the DSC study of rifampicin it was shows the difference between both form on basis of melting point and exothermic and endothermic peak. The DSC curve of form I RMP shows the exothermic peak at the temperature between 240- 420ºc and form II RMP shows the endothermic peak at temperature range between 183-188ºc. By using the FTIR spectrum of form I RMP, it was shown that the absorption bands at approximately 3400 cm−1, 1722 cm−1, 1643 cm−1, for the OH of the chain loop group, acetyl group, furanone group sufficient to characterize form I of RMP and form II of RMP, it was shown that the absorption bands at 3356 cm−1 ,1732 cm−1, 1714 cm−1 , for the OH group, furanone group and acetyl group are sufficient to differentiate form I and form II rifampicin. In TGA analysis of RMP both polymorphs shows TGA curve form I occurred at the temperature 224.17 ºC and form II showed the temperature at 194.04 ºC. Powder X-ray diffraction was used to test the polymorphic forms of solid-state rifampicin. Keywords: Rifampicin, thermal study, analytical study, multidrug resistance study, consequences

Ontogenesis versus Morphogenesis towards an Anti-realist Model of the Constitution of Society

    Get PDF
This article firstly criticizes Margaret Archer’s Morphogenetic Approach for being indecisive about the realist notion of emergence it proposes as well as for her inadequate account of structural conditioning. It is argued that critical realists’ conceptualizations of emergence cannot but lead to inconsistencies about the adequate placement of agents as parts of emergent entities. The inconsistencies to which these conceptualizations lead necessitate an anti-realist model of the constitution of societies which takes into account that social structures are existentially dependent upon ideational elaboration. This alternative anti-realist theoretical perspective is provided by Ontogenesis, within the framework of which the realists’ idea of the ‘necessary and internal relations’ give their place to the ontological pervasiveness of the culturally shared imaginary schemata. Archer’s denial of a collective synchronic impact to social forms is implied in her analysis of morphogenetic cycles, according to which, structural elaboration post-dates social interaction; and this denial is also expressed in this very idea of emergent structures. Instead, for Ontogenesis, social forms are synchronically dependent on the collective impact of the differently socially placed agents, who have different interests and material resources, and whose interaction only becomes meaningful when drawing on these culturally shared imaginary schemata

Exploring the pastiche hegemony of men

    Get PDF
In this article I explore the continued hegemony of certain men. I use interview extracts to help think through the notion of pastiche hegemony as a means of understanding how men, and narratives about them, have changed, but unequal power relations persist. In particular, I explore this process within men’s understandings of how they were able to gain and maintain influence and power at work. Through their reflexive reading of the changing shape of late modern Western society, these men believed they were able to craft selves and employ social scripts to produce social influence and power in situational and contingent forms. I argue that it is within this interactional process that the increasingly undermined ideological and material legacy of patriarchy might still be reified. As such, while there is clear evidence highlighting the undermining of men’s ability to assume power, within this article I theoretically unpack how certain men might be able to produce a localized, pastiche hegemony. Rapidity and Centrality Dependence of Proton and Anti-proton Production from Au+Au Collisions at sqrt(sNN) = 130GeV

We report on the rapidity and centrality dependence of proton and anti-proton transverse mass distributions from Au+Au collisions at sqrt(sNN) = 130GeV as measured by the STAR experiment at RHIC. Our results are from the rapidity and transverse momentum range of |y|<0.5 and 0.35 <p_t<1.00GeV/c. For both protons and anti-protons, transverse mass distributions become more convex from peripheral to central collisions demonstrating characteristics of collective expansion. The measured rapidity distributions and the mean transverse momenta versus rapidity are flat within |y|<0.5. Comparisons of our data with results from model calculations indicate that in order to obtain a consistent picture of the proton(anti-proton) yields and transverse mass distributions the possibility of pre-hadronic collective expansion may have to be taken into account.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, 1 table, submitted to PR

Aggressive fibromatosis of the head and neck: a new classification based on a literature review over 40 years (1968-2008)

BACKGROUND: Fibromatosis is an aggressive fibrous tumor of unknown etiology that is, in some cases, lethal. Until now, there has been no particular classification for the head and neck. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to review the current literature in order to propose a new classification for future studies. METHODS: An evidence-based literature review was conducted from the last 40 years regarding aggressive fibromatosis in the head and neck. Studies that summarized patients' data without including individual data were excluded. RESULTS: Between 1968 and 2008, 179 cases with aggressive fibromatosis of the head and neck were published. The male to female ratio was 91 to 82 with a mean age of 16.87 years, and 57.32% of the described cases that involved the head and neck were found in patients under 11 years. The most common localization was the mandible, followed by the neck. All together, 143 patients were followed up, and in 43 (30.07%), a recurrence was seen. CONCLUSION: No clear prognostic factors for recurrence (age, sex, or localization) were observed. A new classification with regard to hormone receptors and bone involvement could improve the understanding of risk factors and thereby assist in future studies
