La industria de cruceros es una muestra más de la globalización inherente al sector marítimo y de un proceso de agigantamiento deseado por las principales navieras del mundo. En esta ocasión, se abordará el marco regulador de los trabajadores embarcados en los cruceros, prestando especial atención al personal que desempeña funciones no afectas a la navegación, es decir, desarrollando funciones no náuticas a bordo, como pueden ser camareros, artistas, personal de limpieza o de seguridad a bordo. En este sentido, se conocerá la labor realizada por la OIT a la hora de ofrecer un nuevo concepto de gente de mar o marino.The cruise industry is another example of the globalization inherent in the maritime sector and of an enlarging process promoted by the main shipowner in the world. Metabolic drivers of IC-BEVS productivity: Tackling the production of enveloped viral particles

The Insect Cell-Baculovirus Expression System (IC-BEVS) has a major track record for the production of recombinant proteins and vaccines. Although its widespread use, the physiological aspects that contribute to systems productivity are still to be fully disclosed. In the present work, the metabolic features of the two main insect host cell lines, Sf9 and High Five, were analyzed during cellular growth and after baculovirus infection for the production of enveloped Influenza VLPs (Inf-VLPs). The gathered data were contextualized in a metabolic network representative of central carbon and nitrogen metabolism. Metabolic Flux Analysis (MFA) was performed to have a quantitative overview of the cellular fluxome dynamics that followed infection. In addition, the main carbon sources that contributed most to flux activity were identified. The impact of baculovirus infection on the physiology of High Five and Sf9 host cell lines was assessed by metabolomics, aiming at the identification of metabolic markers of productivity. The information herein generated was used to design tailored supplementation schemes that could boost IC-BEVS production yields of two enveloped viral particles: influenza VLPs (Inf-VLP) as a vaccine candidate and the recombinant baculovirus (BV). The strong correlation observed between the metabolic state of the host cell and baculovirus infection highlights the capacity of this virus to act as a metabolic engineer, re-directing the cellular fluxome to support virus replication and production. The results also show that the viral load influence the cellular responsiveness to the supplements, with lower MOIs retrieving higher improvements in specific productivity. The careful selection of the MOI, along with the supplementation of culture medium with compounds altering cellular redox state and cholesterol metabolism, yielded a 6-fold improvement of specific productivity. These results pave the way to deepen our knowledge on the relationship between host cell and virus, contributing to the disclosure of the metabolic determinants that contribute to productivity

El discurso como mediador en las relaciones de poder en la novela el río corre hacia atrás de Benjamín Baena Hoyos

El primer capítulo aborda el contexto histórico real en que se desarrolla la novela, ubicada en los dos últimos decenios del siglo pasado que tiene lugar en la hoya del Quindío, en donde los personajes deben enfrentarse a diferentes fuerzas enemigas: la compañía latifundista, La Burila, la guerrilla y la montaña dura y difícil de domar, esta última permite concatenar las prácticas discursivas y las relaciones de poder que se gestan entre página y página de la novela, con cada uno de los personajes. Lo anterior se fundamenta con datos de algunos teóricos que otrora se acercaron desde esta misma óptica a la obra de Benjamín Baena Hoyos. El segundo alude a las teorías y marcos referenciales con que se asumirá el trabajo en general. Esquematizando la estructura de los componentes discursivos, estableciendo la organización y conexión de cada uno de los hechos que se generan alrededor de la novela “El río corre hacia atrás”. Esta estructura se basa en la competencia discursiva textual, que a su vez identifica el componente semántico, componente pragmático, y el componente ideológico

Subgemmal neurogenous plaques of the tongue: a systematic autopsy study

Subgemmal neurogenous plaque (SNP) is a subepithelial nerve plexus associated with taste buds, occasionally observed in tongue biopsies. There is no evaluation of the prevalence of this structure in the general population. We present a systematic study of samples obtained at random from the dorsal portion of the oral tongue in 205 consecutive complete autopsies. Each sample was about 15 mm long and 10 mm thick. Four hundred fifty-eight samples were routinely obtained and an average of 2.23±0.88 samples per case (range 1-7) was collected. The total number of SNPs observed was 556, with a mean of 2.71±2.68 per case (range 0-16). This means that for every 15 linear mm of the oral tongue, approximately 2.7 SNPs can be present. SNPs display several ages, and they do not show sex differences. The mean size of these structures was 2.1±0.94 mm (range 0.6-3.6 mm). SNP is characterized by its unique neural, zonal pattern with a superficial neurofibroma-like area and a deeper neuroma-like area. Special features of the SNPs include the presence of taste buds (49.1%), ganglion cells (26.3%), dilated thin-walled vessels (11.3%), salivary gland excretory ducts emptying on the surface of the papillae (6.1%), moderate-severe inflammatory infiltrate (6.8%), presence of lymphoid tissue in the vicinity (7.0%), and hyperplasia of the epithelial cover with pseudoepitheliomatous appearance (7.0%). The differential diagnoses include schwannoma, neurofibroma, ganglioneuroma, traumatic neuroma, mucosal neuroma, and squamous cell carcinoma. SNPs are small, normal structures that may undergo hyperplasia and are usually seen incidentally

Elaboración de un instrumento para evaluar las creencias y percepciones de riesgo de los adolescentes sobre el uso del alcohol

El consumo de alcohol en jóvenes y adolescentes se está convirtiendo en los últimos años en un problema que suscita una gran preocupación social. Los distintos estudios epidemiológicos ponen de manifiesto prevalencias muy elevadas del consumo de alcohol en estas edades. El problema se agrava si consideramos que, en términos generales, los jóvenes no perciben los riesgos reales del consumo de alcohol. Resulta por ello conveniente investigar sobre las creencias y opiniones de los jóvenes como premisa necesaria para elaborar programas de prevención cuyo propósito se centre precisamente en modificar dichas creencias. El objetivo del presente estudio ha sido construir un instrumento para detectar la estructura de las opiniones de 914 jóvenes de 12 a 17 años en torno al consumo de alcohol. Los items se construyeron a partir de las aportaciones de los propios estudiantes evaluados, lo que contribuye a nuestro juicio a garantizar su validez ecológica. Los distintos análisis exploratorios y confirmatorios efectuados sobre los datos pusieron de manifiesto que las creencias de los jóvenes sobre el uso de alcohol se agrupan en torno a dos grandes factores, comprendiendo el primero de ellos razones que justifican su uso, y el segundo centrado en argumentos sobre sus consecuencias nocivas, tanto personales como sociales
