Hiking to the "Real" Northernmost Point. Performing Identiy on the way to Knivskjellodden
Summary:
Over the last decade hiking tourism has grown in Norway. This is exemplified by the increasing numbers of tourists that visits Trolltunga, Prekestolen and Kjerag. These are the most prominent examples, which appears to be part of a larger trend. Knivskjellodden has likewise, seen a rise in visitor numbers over the last decade.
This aim of this thesis is to build an understanding of the meaning people attach to their hike to Knivskjellodden. This phenomenon will be explored through Edensor´s (2000, 2001, 2007) theories on performance in tourism. During the analysis it is reflected upon how identity is constructed through performances where `self´ is attached to activity, places and a certain way of traveling

An exploration of job stress and health in the Norwegian police service: a cross sectional study
BACKGROUND: Police work is regarded as a high-stress occupation, but so far, no nationwide study has explored the associations between work stress and health. AIMS: To explore physical and mental health among Norwegian police and associations to job stress. Comparisons were made with a nationwide sample of Norwegian physicians and the general Norwegian population. METHODS: Comprehensive nationwide questionnaire survey of 3,272 Norwegian police at all hierarchical levels, including the Norwegian Police Stress Survey with two factors (serious operational tasks and work injuries), the Job Stress Survey with two factors (job pressure and lack of support), the Basic Character Inventory, the Subjective Health Complaint questionnaire, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, the Maslach Burnout Inventory, and Paykel's Suicidal Feelings in the General Population. RESULTS: The frequency of job pressure and lack of support was mainly associated to physical and mental health problems. Females showed higher means on anxiety symptoms than males (4.2, SD 2.9 and 3.7, SD 2.9, respectively; p < 0.01), while males showed higher means on depressive symptoms (3.1, SD 2.9 and 2.4, SD 2.5, respectively; p < 0.001). Police reported more subjective health complaints, depersonalization and higher scores on three of four personality traits than physicians, but lower scores on anxiety and depressive symptoms than the general population. CONCLUSION: This is the first nationwide study to explore job stress and physical and mental health in police. The results indicate that Norwegian police have high levels of musculoskeletal health problems mainly associated to the frequency of job pressure and lack of support. However, also frequent exposure to work injuries was associated to health problems. This may indicate that daily routine work as well as police operational duties must be taken into consideration in assessing job stress and police health
Senter for
i Hedmark.
største gruppen i Hedmark.
English: This research report present results from candidates who completed their education in 2011 and 2012 on a portion
of the bachelor degree programs at Hedmark University College: BA in agricultural engineering, BA in wilderness
management, BA in Animation, BA in virtual art and design BA in visual simulation, BA in music production, BA in
music management, BA in Public Health. The Center for Studies of Educational Practice (SePU) at Hedmark University
College has conducted the research on behalf of Hedmark University College. The main purpose of this study was
to obtain feedback from the candidates about the transition to work about the work situation and the relationship
between education and the positions they had gained. This study is largely similar to the survey conducted in 2013
for professional candidates at Hedmark University College (Knudsmoen and Berg 2013).
The survey was conducted using Questback as a survey aimed at graduates who received diplomas in 2011 and
2012 on programs pointed out above. In three of the BA programs were the 2010 cohorts also included, while music
production had only graduated one group. In all, this was 257 graduates and the response rate was 49.8. This is a
little higher than that of similar studies for undergraduates implemented in recent years (Arnesen 2010, the Career
Center and TNS Gallup 2011, Ramboll, 2008, Storen mfl. 2012, Knudsmoen and Berg 2013).
The survey was focused on topics such as reasons for deciding to study, satisfaction with training and teaching, the
relevance of education consistent with expectations, the need for continuing education, and recommendation of the
study to others, and possible improvements of the courses.
The survey indicated that many of the factors that were important in the choice of courses were also relevant in
selection of the first work. 57 percent of graduates had found jobs, but one fifth of the graduates were still seeking
employment and 23 percent had continued to study after completing their BA degree. Of those who were employed,
70 percent had a fixed position. Third of those in work said they were in jobs that were not relevant to the subject area
they were trained for through their BA. Over half of the candidates had received job before it was gone three months.
The candidates were spread across the entire country, but the largest group was in Hedmark.
31 percent of the graduates experienced their education as attractive or very attractive compared with competing
BA programs, while 43 percent experienced education as little or very unattractive. 42 percent were satisfied with
the attention they had received in the workplace.
When the candidates should assess their competences in some areas, there was agreement on a number of statements
about workplace competence, communication and dissemination skills, general competence and leadership,
but at the same time there were different perceptions of competence in several variables within these areas of
expertise.
2/3 of the candidates stated that they overall were satisfied or very satisfied with the education they had received
at Hedmark University College, while 13 percent were dissatisfied or very dissatisfied. 43 percent of the candidates
would choose the same BA courses again, while 1/3 answered no to this question and 1/5 of the candidates did
not know. Approximately 80 percent of the candidates would recommend their BA degree program to others. It also
emerged that most candidates wanted more contact with the practical work throughout their study
Oppdraget for
Avdelingene gjennomførte i liten grad egne
undersøkelser, men noen av profesjonsutdanningene hadde sentralt initiert
evalueringsforskning i forbindelse med revisjon av rammeplanene. Noen studier hadde
English: This report reflects upon perspective from the management of the departments and central management at Hedmark University College, on the use and content of the candidate surveys carried out in the period from 2013 until 2015. All of these surveys have been conducted by the Centre for Studies of Educational Practice (SePU) at Hedmark University College, assignment by the central management at the University College. The consignment for mapping the need for future candidate surveys, to follow up the national policy for quality assessment of our educational programs, was also given by central management at Hedmark University College in 2016.
The results of the previous candidate studies were presented to the college’s management team and discussed in the college’s education committee at Hedmark University College. Outside the central management department, the use of these surveys was quite varied. The four campus departments did not carry out their own surveys, or to a small extent, but some of the professional education programs had centrally initiated evaluation research in connection with the revision of their educational plans. Some studies had contact with the sector their educated candidates and received useful information direct from the industry.
When it comes to the content of candidate surveys in the future, the departments at Hedmark University College did not want the candidate studies to overlap too much with other student surveys, that primarily concern student satisfaction and recruitment. They therefore considered that questions about study quality, choice of study and the relationship between theory and practice could be covered by other student surveys. The Candidate studies should therefore be concentrated on key issues related to the transition to working life and work situations. They should also include relationships related to college-level collaboration and working life. Based on these answers, a proposal has been made for indicators in future candidates studies at the university college, which can complement national mapping of master’s candidate studies, as well as the university’s own candidate studies may include the bachelor level in future mappings.Høgskolen i Hedmar
Master i produktdesig

Activity of peroxisomal enzymes, and levels of polyamines in LPA-transgenic mice on two different diets
BACKGROUND: In man, elevated levels of plasma lipoprotein (a)(Lp(a)) is a cardiovascular risk factor, and oxidized phospholipids are believed to play a role as modulators of inflammatory processes such as atherosclerosis. Polyamines are potent antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents. It was therefore of interest to examine polyamines and their metabolism in LPA transgenic mice. Concentration of the polyamines putrescine, spermidine and spermine as well as the activity of peroxisomal polyamine oxidase and two other peroxisomal enzymes, acyl-CoA oxidase and catalase were measured. The mice were fed either a standard diet or a diet high in fat and cholesterol (HFHC). Some of the mice in each feeding group were in addition given aminoguanidine (AG), a specific inhibitor of diamine oxidase, which catalyses degradation of putrescine, and also inhibits non-enzymatic glycosylation of protein which is implicated in the aetiology of atherosclerosis in diabetic patients. Non-transgenic mice were used as controls. RESULTS: Intestinal peroxisomal polyamine oxidase activity was significantly higher in LPA transgenic mice than in the non-transgenic mice, while intestinal peroxisomal catalase activity was significantly lower. Hepatic β-oxidation increased in Lp(a) transgenic mice fed the HFHC diet, but not in those on standard diet. Hepatic spermidine concentration was increased in all mice fed the HFHC diet compared to those fed a standard diet, while spermine concentration was decreased. With exception of the group fed only standard diet, transgenic mice showed a lower degree of hepatic steatosis than non-transgenic mice. AG had no significant effect on hepatic steatosis. CONCLUSION: The present results indicate a connection between peroxisomal enzyme activity and the presence of the human LPA gene in the murine genome. The effect may be a result of changes in oxidative processes in lipid metabolism rather than resulting from a direct effect of the LPA construct on the peroximal gene expression
Lower antibiotic prescription rates in hospitalized COVID-19 patients than influenza patients, a prospective study
Background
COVID-19 patients are extensively treated with antibiotics despite few bacterial complications. We aimed to study antibiotic use in hospitalized COVID-19 patients compared to influenza patients in two consecutive years. Furthermore, we investigated changes in antibiotic use from the first to second pandemic wave.
Methods
This prospective study included both patients from two referral hospitals in Bergen, Norway, admitted with influenza (n = 215) during the 2018/2019 epidemic and with COVID-19 (n = 82) during spring/summer 2020, and national data on registered Norwegian COVID-19 hospital admissions from March 2020 to January 2021 (n = 2300). Patient characteristics were compared, and logistic regression analysis was used to identify risk factors for antibiotic use.
Results
National and local COVID-19 patients received significantly less antibiotics (53% and 49%) than influenza patients (69%, p 90% of antibiotic prescriptions in the two local hospitals, and >70% of prescriptions nationally. When adjusted for age, comorbidities, symptom duration, chest X-ray infiltrates and oxygen treatment, local COVID-19 patients still had significantly lower odds of antibiotic prescription than influenza patients (aOR 0.21, 95%CI 0.09–0.50). At the national level, we observed a significant reduction in antibiotic prescription rates in the second pandemic wave compared to the first (aOR 0.35, 95% CI 0.29–0.43).
Conclusion
Fewer COVID-19 patients received antibiotics compared to influenza patients admitted to the two local hospitals one year earlier. The antibiotic prescription rate was lower during the second pandemic wave, possibly due to increased clinical experience and published evidence refuting the efficacy of antibiotics in treating COVID-19 pneumonia.publishedVersio
