Nonlinear estimation methods applied To a problem of expected inflation

ABSTRACT
This work describes and analyses the Extended Kalman Filter with regard to an equation that relates the dynamic of the expected real interest rates and inflation. An estimation of the exante inflation for a preestablished data set is carried out. This is compared with the same calculation using a moving horizon estimation method for situations that are non lineal due to parametric uncertainties of the model. From the application of these methods to real data, it can be concluded that the estimations based on the moving horizon method, combined with a heuristic optimization algorithm, yield better results.

Social network analysis for personalized characterization and risk assessment of alcohol use disorders in adolescents using semantic technologies
[EN] Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) is a major concern for public health organizations worldwide, especially as regards the adolescent population. The consumption of alcohol in adolescents is known to be influenced by seeing friends and even parents drinking alcohol. Building on this fact, a number of studies into alcohol consumption among adolescents have made use of Social Network Analysis (SNA) techniques to study the different social networks (peers, friends, family, etc.) with whom the adolescent is involved. These kinds of studies need an initial phase of data gathering by means of questionnaires and a subsequent analysis phase using the SNA techniques. The process involves a number of manual data handling stages that are time consuming and error-prone. The use of knowledge engineering techniques (including the construction of a domain ontology) to represent the information, allows the automation of all the activities, from the initial data collection to the results of the SNA study. This paper shows how a knowledge model is constructed, and compares the results obtained using the traditional method with this, fully automated model, detailing the main advantages of the latter. In the case of the SNA analysis, the validity of the results obtained with the knowledge engineering approach are compared to those obtained manually using the UCINET, Cytoscape, Pajek and Gephi to test the accuracy of the knowledge model.S
laboral.Peer Reviewe
3D spectroscopy with GTC-MEGARA of the triple AGN candidate in SDSS J102700.40+174900.8
Triple AGN systems are expected to be the result of the hierarchical model of
galaxy formation. Since there are very few of them confirmed as such, we
present the results of a new study of the triple-AGN candidate SDSS
J102700.40+174900.8 (center nucleus) through observations with
- Integral Field Unit. 1D and 2D analysis of the line
ratios of the three nuclei allow us to locate them in the EW(H) vs.
[Nii] /H diagram. The central nucleus is found to be a retired galaxy
(or fake AGN). The neighbors are found to be a strong AGN (southeastern
nucleus, J102700.55+174900.2) compatible with a Sy2 galaxy, and a weak AGN
(northern nucleus, J102700.38+174902.6) compatible with a LINER2. We find
evidence that the neighbors constitute a dual AGN system (Sy2-LINER2) with a
projected separation of 3.98 kpc in the optical bands. The H velocity
map shows that the northern nucleus has an H emission with a velocity
offset of -500 km s, whereas the southeastern nucleus has a
rotating disk and H extended emission at kpc scales. Chandra archival
data confirm that the neighbors have X-ray (0.5-2) keV and (2-7) keV emission,
whereas the center nucleus shows no X-ray emission. A collisional ring with
knots is observed in the HST images of the southeastern nucleus. These knots
coincide with star formation regions that along with the ring are predicted in
a head-on collision. In this case, the morphology changes are probably due to a
minor merger that was produced by the passing of the northern through the
southeastern nucleus.Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ, 20 pages, 9 figures, 7 table
Survival and grade of the glioma prediction using transfer learning
[EN] Glioblastoma is a highly malignant brain tumor with a life expectancy of only 3–6 months without treatment. Detecting and predicting its survival and grade accurately are crucial. This study introduces a novel approach using transfer learning techniques. Various pre-trained networks, including EfficientNet, ResNet, VGG16, and Inception, were tested through exhaustive optimization to identify the most suitable architecture. Transfer learning was applied to fine-tune these models on a glioblastoma image dataset, aiming to achieve two objectives: survival and tumor grade prediction. The experimental results show 65% accuracy in survival prediction, classifying patients into short, medium, or long survival categories. Additionally, the prediction of tumor grade achieved an accuracy of 97%, accurately differentiating low-grade gliomas (LGG) and high-grade gliomas (HGG). The success of the approach is attributed to the effectiveness of transfer learning, surpassing the current state-of-the-art methods. In conclusion, this study presents a promising method for predicting the survival and grade of glioblastoma. Transfer learning demonstrates its potential in enhancing prediction models, particularly in scenarios with limited large datasets. These findings hold promise for improving diagnostic and treatment approaches for glioblastoma patients.S

Characterization and in vitro spread of mesquite (Prosopis laevigata (Humb. & Bonpl. ex Willd.) M.C.Johnst.)
Objective: To analyze fruit characteristics, genetic diversity, and in vitro spread of mesquite genotypes (Prosopis laevigata (Humb. & Bonpl.) ex Willd.) from the plains of Ojuelos-Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Design/Methodology/Approach: Fruit and leaf samples were collected from 20 mesquite genotypes to analyze and extract DNA to determine their diversity using RAPDs. Simultaneously, in vitro spread tests were performed.
Results: The Ojuelos de Jalisco genotype stood out for the weight of its fruits, while La Presa genotype stood out for its degrees Brix. Genotypes were grouped according to their best growth condition for their genetic analysis. In in vitro spread, AG3 with IBA allowed stem/shoot elongation and root formation; meanwhile, AgNO3 prevents leaf fall, allowing rooting and transfer to the soil.
Study Implications/Limitations: This study about mesquite (P. laevigata) was limited to the plains of Ojuelos-Aguascalientes.
Findings/Conclusions: Mesquite plants from the Ojuelos-Aguascalientes subregion, Mexico, were identified and georeferenced; likewise, a methodology for its in vitro spread was developed
Axillary lymph node dissection versus radiotherapy in breast cancer with positive sentinelnodes after neoadjuvant therapy (ADARNAT trial)
Introduction: Breast cancer surgery currently focuses on de-escalating treatment without compromising patient survival. Axillary radiotherapy (ART) now replaces axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) in patients with limited sentinel lymph node (SLN) involvement during the primary surgery, and this has significantly reduced the incidence of lymphedema without worsening the prognosis. However, patients treated with neoadjuvant systemic treatment (NST) cannot benefit from this option despite the low incidence of residual disease in the armpit in most cases. Data regarding the use of radiotherapy instead of ALND in this population are lacking. This study will assess whether ART is non-inferior to ALND in terms of recurrence and overall survival in patients with positive SLN after NST, including whether it reduces surgery-related adverse effects. Methods and analyses: This multicenter, randomized, open-label, phase 3 trial will enroll 1660 patients with breast cancer and positive SLNs following NST in approximately 50 Spanish centers over 3 years. Patients will be stratified by NST regimen and nodal involvement (isolated tumoral cells or micrometastasis versus macrometastasis) and randomly assigned 1:1 to ART without ALND (study arm) or ALND alone (control arm). Level 3 and supraclavicular radiotherapy will be added in both arms. The primary outcome is the 5-year axillary recurrence determined by clinical and radiological examination. The secondary outcomes include lymphedema or arm dysfunction, quality of life based (EORTC QLQ-C30 and QLQ-BR23 questionnaires), disease-free survival, and overall survival. Discussion: This study aims to provide data to confirm the efficacy and safety of ART over ALND in patients with a positive SLN after NST, together with the impact on morbidity. Ethics and dissemination: The Research Ethics Committee of Bellvitge University Hospital approved this trial (Protocol Record PR148/21, version 3, 1/2/2022) and all patients must provide written informed consent. The involvement of around 50 centers across Spain will facilitate the dissemination of our results
